@@suzygirl1843 Tiana being dark skinned is hugely important. Dark Skinned black women baewlt get representation in media and I’m sure they’ll change up the movie to fit today’s standard, so she’ll probably be a human a bit longer. Tiana should be dark skinned. End of discussion.

As a child, I loved the colourful animation and the wacky characters, but now, I appreciate the more adult themes of Nani struggling to raise Lilo after the loss of their parents, while she's barely out of her teens herself.

And also Lilo and Stitch both being are a mirror to each. Both are outcasts, sort of get bullied by their peers, the people around them either don't understand them and declare them as "weird freaks" or monster's, as a result of that both are feeling lonely. There is literally a scene where Lilo gets into a fight with Red Head Girl after she provoked her and then the girl afterwards asks her friends if the wound looks infected, it's exactly the same reaction Gantu gave when he got bitten by Stitch after imprisoning him and threatening him with a gun. As a Child you don't realize such things. Also how sad Lilo's story actually is, she feels like she has absolutely no place where she belongs or gets accepted as she is, nobody understands her. I mean stitch serves as comedic relief as well, but he also has no family or some place where he feels home, Jumbo literally describes Stitch Situation as "626 was designed to be a monster, but now he has nothing to destroy. You see, I never gave him a greater purpose. What must it be like to have nothing... Not even memories to visit in the middle of the night". Later on in the movie Stitch literally leaves Lilo and Nani to find his parents in the forest like the ugly duckling and says "I'm Lost", it's so sad actually. And like you mentioned, then Nani as Single Parent while being a teenager herself and while having to deal with the trauma of loosing her parents and giving up her entire life she had before (She had an on going Surfing Career, shown through her trophys). A Nice detail is also Lilos Obsession with feeding"Pudge" the fish (which was the reason why she was late for her hula dance lesson), since she thinks this one fish controls the weather, because her parents died in an car accident while it was raining heavily.

I like how Lilo is genuinely “weird”, she not just clumsy or awkward like many protagonists are to make them relatable. She has unusual interests that only make her more endearing and some unhealthy coping mechanisms so she has real places to grow and learn. A main character who has to change due to something that’s only made a real flaw through pure plot contrivances like tripping over things isn’t nearly as compelling lol. I also can’t talk enough about how much I love Nani’s character design and how important it was to me growing up.

Japan is very like that in media. Even media that has NOTHING to do with Japan has to have some Japanese crap inserted in to the setting, Attack on Titan being a fair notable one. They seem to think so backward about the world that they can't understand when there's media that doesn't have some sort of Japanese element. The Vinland Saga anime couldn't even escape it as they inserted an explanation that involved mentioning shogi instead of chess because they didn't think Japanese viewers would understand chess (the series is set in 1010s Western Europe mostly)

Something interesting about the Stitch's great escape attraction was exactly WHY it happened. it was originally ExtraTERRORestrial encounter, an very scary Alien inspired (Disney didn't have the rights) attraction with a large complex monster animatronic, and the idea you're trapped in the room while it eats and drools on other guests. It was really cinematic and scary and I Loved it. It was always controversial. It wasa very well made ride but something that scary meant it wasn't a great family attraction. So it wasn't the keystone attraction Disney hoped. Disney thought about changing the space for a while. Disney's hand was forced when the lead actor for the pre-taped portions was convicted of having CP and so Disney wanted to distance from him. Rather than reshoot the mini-movies, Disney decided to change to a more marketable character and more family friendly attraction. Since it was in Tomorrowland and was already sci-fi themed, they touched up some of the animatronics and were pretty easily able to retool it to be about Stitch.

Pleakley can honestly be fascinating because he ranges from like basic man in a dress humour to like yeah he’s an alien who just vibes with female presentation as a disguise and knows he’ll blend in better being a woman dating a man to like genuinely perceiving himself as a cis woman when he has amnesia. Like it can’t all be put down to him being an alien because it’s almost exclusively him who does it
@Shewhospeakesinverse

Yeah and then you get the episodes like the one in the show where his family visits . Like people present sometimes as a roger from american dad or even a bugs bunny (?) Like figure but his connection to jumba thats stayed consistent makes him very different. Like theres a subsect of man in a dress jokes that exist where the joke is multiple layered bc its a non human and the joke hinges partially on 'well its hilarious that this creature with fur or grey skin is passing as a human woman ' (llama kuzco in emperors new groove) n ppl like to argue that this not rooted in any types of transmisogyny or misogyny bc of that. When like i think its more nuanced. Lilo and stitch is interesting bc it presents in the same media a man alien passing as a human man which is pretty rare. Like i guess it happens in looney tunes (bugs as barber) but not at the same time as the 'human woman drag'

As someone who works with kids, I can say that there are a good handful that know of Stitch. Maybe it's due to streaming, or because it's what their parents grew up on, but Disney has a good grip on the kids. Maybe not as much as it did in the 90s or early 2000s, but there are kids who adore Disney and any of its properties. The live action movie and books will probably do fine. And if it doesn't do well with kids, there's always the nostalgic 90s and early 2000s grown-ups.

Growing up I felt as tho not many kids my age were watching the show alongside me which was when the first TV series would have been airing. So I’m glad the story gets the recognition it deserves through this remake in a way. But on the other hand i have no confidence that the live action remake will live up to the original especially with how bad and hollow the recent live actions make audiences feel. And if it turns out bad, at least the original will always be there for viewers to cherish.

One thing this video did not emphasize or even mention is how, technically, none of the content that came after the movie is actually "canon", as confirmed by Chris Sanders himself (the creator of the original film). They mostly have continuity between each other, yes, but it's more like they take place in an alternate universe. I'm really happy about this because the spin-offs pretty much ruin the artistic integrity of the original film in almost every way conceivable.
@gota7738
@gota7738 Жыл бұрын
I adore the spin-offs and appreciate their weirdness, but I'd be glad to hear it. The different entries have such a different feel to them tone wise that I always thought of them that way and imagined that connected parts like the series had it's own version of the movie in its history. Honestly while I'm still uber sceptical of the live-action remake, if they got creative with it and created a distinct voice for itself (while still representing the characters and paying respect to Hawaii's culture), I MIGHT consider giving it a chance.

And there’s also Belle! Belle personally was my favorite experiment, the small light blue one who screams, but Angel is a close second of mine. There’s another pink one, Carmen, who’s my third favorite. As a young girl who was obsessed and still is with this franchise, I was blown away by how many female experiments they have. There are quite a bit. I think there are less than the males, but I was still happy when I saw an abundance of them. Yin, Clip, Shush, Sproing, Bonnie, Belle, Angel, and whoever else, I felt refreshed. Actually I feel like Bonnie and Clyde were into each other but it’s been a few years I’ve seen their episodes so it’s possible they were just friends, which I do enjoy platonic opposite sex friendships!

To answer how many kids are familiar with stitch now- since the last western franchise addition was in 2006; i live in the uk and stitch (and angel almost equally) are EXTREMELY popular here. We have a huuuuge (like one on every main street huge) chain of cheap fast fashion clothing stores called primark that produce a lot disney collabs, and about 80% of this collab merch is stitch, and EVERY store has at least 1 shelf of stitch/angel merch. Its actually become a meme in the uk. This store even has a stitch themed cafe at a few locations thst have queues around the stores. In disneyland paris there is a stitch ride but hes not as prominent around the parks, so it might just be a uk thing . Id also add the primark stitch merch is thought of as very tacky/low brow

Lilo and Stitch is and was my favorite Disney movie. I feel like a lot of people remember Stitch as the face of the movie (and in the 2000's he was ALL over Disney merchandise almost as much as mickey himself) but not the movie and its themes and overall message and like you said Lilo wasn't marketed as much but I love her character. The promo was like nothing Disney done before. The watercolor animation is so beautiful and such a different take on animation. I actually like some Disney remakes but I feel like this one shouldn't be touched - Stitch live action is just going to look wrong and the casting for Nani is sadly not even accurate.

Honestly I wished that they could have put a realistic way of teaching Myrtle a lesson for bullying Lilo in both the series and the movies. It just wasn’t okay with me that the creators of this series had let a character get away with mistreating another character like that. I know that my comment was off topic of what is being discussed in the video, but I am pretty sure that I’m not the only person who thinks that this aspect of this franchise is frustrating.

I’m also a HUGE fan of this franchise and Stitch himself. I’m currently in the process of creating an entire fansite dedicated to it called Super Experiment Ohana (set for release around spring/early summer). The live-action remake that’s coming soon is still pointless, I prefer a new animated Lilo & Stitch continuation (with the other experiments included).

If they do revive the show, they should continue the spin-off trend but instead of being a reboot or loosely based on the original series, would instead be a sort of sequel series. Implied it took place after the leroy movie but afterwards doing it's own thing while referencing the original every now and then. I say this because if it's bad and becomes a sequel, fans will be upset by how it would drag down the original series/franchise, but if it's a reboot fans will be upset that it's wiping the original away or making changes that'll put people of it entirely. So a sort-of sequel would work best to make everyone happy. This is important as the series has faded away and instead of risking everything on methods that risk the series should it go back, it needs to be set in a way that if it's successful it can be grafted into the main story without worry; but if it fails, fans can just brush it aside without worry it'll ruin the series. This is key to the revival of any beloved franchise.

@ModernGurlz Actually, the crossovers are canonical for all of the involved properties. As far as I know, 'Recess' is not explicitly set in the 1990s. 'Stitch & Ai' does not overide the Japanese series. It takes place before it.

Man this video had me in my feels. Both nostalgic and utterly surprised. For me growing up as a 90’s kid this is the one Disney movie I saw 7 times in theaters under different circumstances. I enjoyed each time. This is also probably the *ONLY* Sci-fi Disney movie that was outrageously successful. Let me talk about the Disney Channel original series Lilo & Stitch. For me this is a tv show that really hit hard for any Poke’mon fan. Like there were so many experiments that I really want as Pokémon (my favorite being Slushy.). Also the movie to wrap up the series *Leroy & Stitch* secretly re-enact the finale of Pokémon The First Movie. When Leroy and his clones fight Stitch and all the experiments as they duke it out in a stadium. Still my favorite part. I’m kinda disappointed that Pokémon Sun & Moon didn’t have a Stitch or any Pokémon that resembled one of the experiments (except maybe Volcanion) like Poke’mon until the newest games. Grafaiai is the spitting image of Stitch. Also while I’m going back to look at all the experiments because it’s a been a long @ss time, one of them was a giant crab. Sound familiar? Lilo & Stitch The Series crossover’s we’re the only thing we would get to a Disney Channel version of Kingdom Hearts. Now onto the other series. I’ve known about the Japanese animated series. Never watched it, but like Western audiences I was weirdly angry they replaced Lilo with some Japanese inserted OC. Not as outrageously mad as what I saw Mindy do to the Scooby gang in Velma. (*Still disgustingly mad about that.*) I think it was the fact that Lilo does come back as an adult which made it weirdly alright I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️ Now the two things that blew my mind was the Japanese exclusive High School Musical reference and the Samurai manga. Your telling me that there was a episode of Lilo & Stitch the series in which they made High School Musical references (The most viral hitting American sensation that swept the nation that put the Pandemic to shame and it was a Japanese exclusive video. That’s so weird? Like why?) Now the reason the Samurai manga blew my mind is really more personal. To anyone who has ever read/watched Gintama, you know that the premise is that before the start of the series, aliens (known as the Amanto) came to Earth and waged war against the samurai. The Amanto prevailed but both factions coexist together in a futuristic Edo. So hearing how alien technology shaped Edo made me think. . . What if this manga was the origin of the futuristic city that Gintama takes place in

Funny you should mention Japan loving Stitch because I saw that when I went in 2009 and when I went back this year I told my 7 year old niece who loves him (answering your question as to whether kids today watch, but that was my doing) and promised to get her stuff and it was more difficult than I thought. You get a few bits, but not nearly as ubiquitous as before. Ended up getting something from the Disney store and on my last day stumbled upon some stuff at a yard sale kind of thing. Had no idea there was something at in feudal Japan, will check that out cheers!
