I just bought a 24 f250 king ranch with the 7.3 and I’m 26 years old, single. I work as a carpenter and I don’t tow or haul anything very often, but it’s nice to see boomers get mad at a 26 year old with a 3/4 ton for a daily with nothing to tow. 😂

I have owned two gas SD’s now including my current ‘24 with the 7.3. I am a contractor who occasionally tows so the gas fits my use case. Deciding factors for me: 1. Cost of routine maintenance for a diesel with 15qt oil changes, fuel filters every 10K, and crank case filters every 30k 2. Diesel fuel quality-water separator and need to drain water which they recommend doing monthly. Concerns with diesel gelling in cold temperatures, algae growth etc. Diesel fuel systems are one of the most expensive systems on the truck. Someone accidentally puts gas in it and it is a huge bill 3 Most importantly is the emissions systems-Short trips and idling are terrible for diesel emissions systems. You really need to pull these hard and drive them long distances to get a full heat cycle for EGR, and Diesel particulate filters to stay clean longer. Tue regeneration cycle is more frequent if you are just daily driving these on short trips and you are just building soot up in your particulate filter. DEF systems are an added expense and step to take in your fueling process. I would love the power and the fuel economy of a diesel but the reasons above for my particular use case the gas works for me. This 7.3 has so much power for each I use it for. If you have a trailer hooked up every day get the diesel. If not the gas will serve you just fine. As for fuel economy it will take a minute to recoup the $10k-$13k delta that diesel will add to MSRP Just my .02

I purchased a 2024 F250 Tremor Lariat Ultimate in May of this year with a 7.3 as a daily driver. We tow a camper and on occasion an equipment trailer w/ a 35 hp tractor w/ a 60” brush deck. I chose the 7.3 over the diesel for the reasons that 10,000 to 12,000 dollars more on the initial cost for it was not worth it. Once you add in the maintenance cost over the life of the vehicle not including the price of diesel fuel and the additional cost of DEF it really starts to add up over the general maintenance cost over the naturally aspirated 7.3V8. As far as the ride quality goes it is a super duty truck and not a luxury car so you would expect it to have a rougher ride than an SUV or a lighter duty truck. I personally chose the Tremor version of the F250 for the rear suspension. The Tremor has the rear leaf pack with the overload like the F350 as well as the Dana M275. The regular F250 has the Sterling 10.5” rear and has a 3 spring leaf pack with out an overload spring. As you said you don’t tow so these are all things that help with towing. I can’t speak for everyone but for me I went from a 2014 F150 4X4 XLT to this for its towing capability and I just wanted a larger truck. Dodge was completely out of the question as I had one and it was total crap and would never buy another one. I have had heavy and GMC in the past and always felt like the fit and finish of the dash just felt like it was like a snap tire model. I did look at both on the HD front before I decided on the Ford. As far as gas mileage if that was something I was worried about I would have looked at hybrids or would have stuck with 1\2 ton trucks. Gas prices and mileage are gonna be what they are and we just need to learn to live with it since there is nothing we can do about them.

Everything you said is absolutely true, just one consideration is that the diesels tend to depreciate at a lower rate than the gasser equipped Super Dutys. So if you plan on trading it in in a few years it may be worth weighing the amount you may take a loss on. I’m a former diesel mechanic and am considering the 7.3 due to its simplicity, and surprisingly decent fuel range unloaded. But a deleted 6.7 with fuel filtration issues addressed and would probably last a few decades too.

Drove diesel for 20 years until def became a thing and recently had a Toyota Sequoia which averaged 13 mpg. Look at all that potential you’re getting for basically the same mpg. I sold the sequoia after a year and am shopping again. We’re looking to go full time on the road with a fifth wheel and I hate the new def setups on current diesels so I’m going with a gas setup. I am fully aware of the differences and if worst case I blow the gas engine I can replace it once for less than a diesel and I don’t have to worry bout fuel filter or finding diesel fuel in small mountain towns or 4 gallon oil changes or a fuel pump failure causing catastrophic damage to the diesel engine and I can work on these engines all day long. The diesel engines are no longer worth the money for me because of all this. Ex automotive designer here.

There are pros and cons to both. The Def really isn’t a very big deal. I recently bought my first diesel truck and first 5th wheel RV we have put just under 6k miles towing the 5th wheel around. Filling up at regular gas station pump over a truck stop would be a factor you might not see before buying. A few quarts of oil means you spend $50-$70.00 more for an oil change. You can always have the truck deleted if you aren’t going to be concerned about warranty. You are right that the newer trucks are more than a little difficult to work on.

Went with a 2023 F250 XL with STX and FX4 package, now rare 6.8L gas (option 7.3) with 3.73 gears as a daily driver for 60K. I pull a RV TT thats 32 Feet and weighs in around 8,000 LBS. I left a 2019 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Hemi with 3.21 gears because of two reasons, Ram ditching the Hemi, and wanting to drive a truck with a V8 that doesn't have all this displacement on demand B.S. that shortens engine life and felt worn out after each RV Trip, thought there has to be something with going to a 3/4 ton truck. I am very pleased with it being a base +1 package, I don't need all them fancy do hickeys and features. I'm quite content with the old school approach, analog gauges, gear shift on the column, turn key ignition. it has just enough new tech. 6.8L to my understanding was a fleet engine, however it does very well towing, at 70 mph i can get 9.5 mpg, not towing i can get 18 mpg highway. City driving i'm around 13 mpg. I do feel the one complaint i have about if any is exactly what yawl said about the brakes. Seems like too much effort at first has to go into it to stop it. Other then that, I enjoy driving it. I prefer Gas over Diesel due to all the DEF B.S. when that system fails. Good luck working under the hood on that Diesel. Now if i were pull trailer all day long, then yea, your going to want to go with Diesel. I'm quite content with my use of the Beast!

my husband and i did buy the 2023 f250. my husband is 70 and i am 69. he is 6'2' and i am 4'11". we able to get in well as well as feel comfortable. we chose the gas lariat because diesel trucks cost way more and this engine pulls just as well. we pull a 30 foot travel trailer and camp with out 4 boston terriers. it is roomy and very comfortable. diesel fuel cost more , the truck cost more, you have to put def in it. where is diesel worth getting over the gas. it is not in our opinion. we use to own a ford f250 1996 diesel. that truck still runs great and my son now owns it. susan and chuck b in south la.

No way, was I buying a King Ranch this time, or even a Lariat. Way too expensive. I don't need a diesel anymore. The emission stuff on the Diesels....enough said.

Right now our family Vehicle is a Subaru Ascent. Once its paid off, we plan on keeping it, but would like a Larger Vehicle for the big trips or camping. We have 4 kids. Space is needed on trips. We are considering a work truck/diesel so it has the fold down middle seat in the front. We don't Haul or have any kind of campers. But this seams more useful than a suburban or Tahoe size vehicles. We don't currently have a truck, live in the country. We are constantly borrowing a truck for hauling things in the bed, that don't fit in our Ascent. It seems like the best kind of combo. I still have my Subaru WRX for communting, wife still has her Subaru Ascent for in Town, and then the truck or everything in between. Solid Family Car IMO.

To give you credit, it sounds like you would use something like this way more than us, but the appeal is the same. We love road trips, and we often find ourselves tossing wet and sandy beach gear into our old Suburban. But before it was our "old" Suburban it was our new Suburban, and Megan didn't love the idea of doing that. It's very easy to justify one of these big trucks the further away from the city you live as well. We love outside of Atlanta, not far from where it becomes more rural. For anything outdoors related or lawn maintenance, this becomes more useful. But... I'd probably still get a half ton were I to get a truck. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

The gas engine is great if you're only occasionally towing and want less maintenance overall. While it does get worse gas mileage than the diesel, the $10k-12k price difference and additional maintenance costs of the diesel, you would likely never offset the added cost if you're occasionally towing. However, if you're using this as a daily work truck, towing frequently, or have requirements to tow some very heavy loads, then the diesel makes sense from a cost perspective. Those are the usual reasons for why gas vs diesel in the Super Duty trucks. That said, there are people who only occasionally tow and use it more as a daily driver, but for a variety of reasons still prefer having a diesel and in those cases, they would be paying the extra cost for their preference like anyone would for any of the available options, but it wouldn't be done from a cost saving perspective.

The diesel is $10-12k more than the gas engine. That's important. It's $10-12K more expensive. It requires diesel, which can be harder (but not hard) to find, and a little more expensive. You have to be very careful about the fuel you put in it. A small amount of water mixed in can be very expensive. Maintenance is more expensive and more often. (Think $200 oil changes, fuel filter changes twice a year, etc) Repairs can be very costly. The EPA has essentially ruined modern diesels. With all of the equipment required by the EPA, the reliability is down from what it could be. Power is down from what it could be. All of that said, once you drive one, you will love the power. It has a little turbo lag, but it pulls like a freight train. Once you get the mirrors adjusted, the blind spots disappear... As for comparing this to other trucks... You really need to be comparing them to HD trucks. A F-150 is essentially an Expedition and vise-versa. This is a different vehicle altogether. Same with GM and Ram. A 1500 has nowhere near the capability of the 2500+. You're right about the ride compared to GM, but only to a small degree. They have independent front suspensions on the GM twins. Ram and Ford have solid front axels for capability reasons. They're different classes of vehicles, literally. If you're cross-shopping half ton vehicles to this, you're never going to like the ride. If you're going apples to apples, it's a little more subjective, with the edge to GM. All of that said... They're fantastic trucks, all of them. There's positives and negatives to all of them. The big differences are in the interiors and a few features... Power is different between all of them. Ford has the most power, but has some things you need to watch compared to the others. The others aren't far off on power, either. And the Ram just makes power differently. It's an I-6 diesel, vs the other V8 diesels. But anyway, I hope you get to try out the others as well and see how they are. Have fun!

Anyone who drives a HD pickup wants a column shifter. Push button gear selectors are terrible and don't give you a place to manually select your gear. Console shifters take away the option to have a front bench seat and eat up two cup holder spots if you have front buckets.

If you are not towing a lot the gas version is in my opinion best. The gas is good for hauling usually because it has the higher payload. Diesel is more maintenance and with stricter emissions it makes it worse.

Diesel downfalls are. MSRP cost a lot more. Diesel cost more. Def fluid is expensive and annoying. Have to change fuel filters often. Maintenance for diesel is expensive. Cold start can be issues for diesel. Smells. Loud. All that emissions crap ruins the diesel engine and it costs over 10k to fix when needed. Only reason to buy a diesel is for towing super heavy loads.
