Re: the crowd cheering Patti attacking a customer vs Sanji attacking a customer, it's very important to remember that Sanji attacked a Marine Lieutenant who was trying to enjoy a date even if he was an asshole, while Patti attacked a pirate who threatened to shoot him and DID already shoot a Marine in front of everyone. Sanji was breaking the law, while Patti was performing a citizen's arrest. Very different social implications. Also, Luffy probably HASN'T ever been in a kitchen. 😅

Sanji's empathy towards hunger is a lot more apparent in the anime compared to the live action. Wish they kept more of the Don Krieg stuff in the live action.

The Baratie episodes are my favorites of the live action, I think from a budget and time perspective their approach works the best and I think the Don Krieg fight is one that goes on for too long in the anime(Though not the manga) so I'm okay with cutting it. However, they could have had the full Gin scene play out to show Sanji's convictions and build up the mystery of why Sanji is so insanely opposed to people starving. (Also for the record, I hate the censorship in this arc of the anime.)

I kind of prefer subtext to having characters monologue their motivations, but you're not wrong. A huge part of OP is characters proclaiming their beliefs and getting challenged about them, like Sanji going against his crew in this ep. Then again, when you're already spending 18 million per episode you need to make cuts.

Oda in his early days worked part time at a restaurant named Baratei, he was like Luffy as well, breaking dishes, eating off of meals.. Baratei in real life, Baratie in this world..

Sanji and Gin interactions in the manga/anime are so good! About Don Krieg, in the LA they had him fight Mihawk who is way out of most people league, so he didn't look like a big deal😅 and anime Nami absolutely takes advantage of Sanji's simping, which is perfectly fine for Sanji lmao

sanjis curly eyebrow is like, one of the most iconic design choices eiichiro oda made with the main cast :D its a bit sad they couldnt translate that into the netflix version, but i get it. it wouldve looked really really goofy probably.

I don't think it's because the name was already taken. OP started in 1997 and Naruto didn't start until 1999, by which time Sanji definitely had already been introduced. [SPOILER WARNING] My thoughts are that Oda probably thought up Sanji's other backstory and changed it because of that.

I understand why the LA did it, but it still misses a bit of nuanced storytelling imo. Krieg is a pretty mid-low tier villain as far as clear motivations and realistic objectives go, but his defining strengths (military prowess and underhanded tactics) serve as foils to Luffy's sheer determination and direct approach to conflict resolution.

Yeah it was an obvious cut to make for the L.A. And it’s handled pretty well overall, but it’s nice seeing the story told in full. I mean really all Don Krieg does is shows us the crew’s strength. They kept the Zoro & Mihawk pretty close. It was nice seeing Don Krieg in the L.A. At all and handled really smartly…but seeing him play out in full is better.

@@tylerdurden5406 I actually like how they handled Mihawk better in the LA because he has a legit reason to be after the crew which adds stakes to Zoro's fight. And the way they tied it back to Garp giving the order to capture Luffy shows the audience that the Warlords *do* in fact work with the marines to a certain extent, instead of Mihawk just "cruisin' and playin the radio, with no particular place to go" (Chuck Berry)

@@curtishammer748 yeah I agree it was really well done. And it was an obvious fat to the plot to trim and just make it about Zoro and Mihawk and it was well handled. That being said Mihawk still has motivation for when he bumps into Luffy…it’s Don Krieg that he bumped into and was never explained beyond his nap was interrupted. He’s trying to tie up the loose ends and was tracking Don Krieg down. And like I said I’ve always found Don Krieg just to be someone that serves to show Luffy’s strength by pitting him against someone that’s meant to be an established powerhouse people fear and is said to rule the seas. So he’s not much use when you have to trim the story down and condense it.

14:49 the clowncook said 'he shows no dignity' because don krieg didnt bow his head like he did afterwards. also he didnt talk to them politely, if i'm correct you ahve that suffix at the end like -san (for strangers or if you barely know someone) -kun (friend) -sama (boss or you worship this person) -chan (precious person) -obachan (grandma) -ojisama (gramps) something like that. and don krieg basically talks away in a very inpersonal way, while japanese usually talk in a very personal manner focused to a person, so to say. especially in One Piece.

Hey girls if you didn’t know yet but Luffy just won best Main Character of the year. He is my favorite anime character of all time. It’s a well deserved win for the future king of the pirates.

He won because the awards are a popularity contest not because the character of Luffy actually deserved it. It's cool that he's your favourite character and all but we should look at them critically instead of letting bias dictate who deserves what. He's literally the same character through out the entire series and will probably stay the same for the rest of the series and since he was up against some of the best MC's in anime we might as well just give the award to him every year from now on. Not trying to shit on Luffy but he most definitely didn't deserve that award.

His personality didn't change but he developed as a character through out the series and is still learning and evolving. You'll find that alot of "short term/background" characters in the live action have way more attention and impact in the anime (at least in the moment). Immediate example being don creed, while other examples included luffys flash back island, anyone with a number on them, alvida, blackcat crew, merry, and arlong crew, pinwheel guy (for now)

Yeah, in the LA it's Sanji that mention that Zeff's name "Red leg" comes from the blood of his enemies on his boots, while here it will be Krieg talking about it. Don Krieg is in his 40s, Zeff was probably well known when he started his "career".
