I LOVED Dystopia. This was their final album, and then Dino (the drummer and vocalist) went on to do vocals for Noothgrush. They're kind of a blend of crust punk and sludge - same kind of nihilistic themes and pure rage found in sludge, but musically a little closer to crust punk, although more metallic than the bulk of that genre. When I think of angry vocals, I think of Dino's instantly recognizable nasal screaming. This album contains some really intense songs, particularly the song "Number One Hypocrite", which might be Dino's most intense vocal performance in their discography. They went out with a bang.

dystopia's humans=garbage is a banger of an album, the vocalist is especially gnarly

Dystopia got me into metal as a kid when my older sister showed them to me. Dino's voice is really unique and it's wild how he screams up into the mic while playing those intricate drum parts at the same time. I especially like their 2 earlier albums Human=Garbage and The Aftermath. Very different vibe but Dino's funeral doom band Asunder was also great. More down-tempo, all low-pitch growls instead of nasal screams, very poetic lyrics. Strongly recommend, especially to Dystopia fans who haven't heard them.

I asked for the song ;) It always reminds me of my depression almost 20 years ago, though my meds worked. My problem was that I got caught up in an infinite loop of thoughts and problems with seemingly no solution- throwing me into some lethargic paralysis. After being able to talk about my issues to a doctor I received neurological help, following roughly 200 hours of psychological sessions. Did it help? It sure did. I learned a lot about myself and I can now deal with difficult situations much easier and battle any thoughts leading in similar directions as in that time, so my life is "normal" now. Still love this kind of music though, especially the lyrics, as music was the only anchor I had and was interested in back then.

I found Dystopia after Noothgrush and Asunder, it's cool looking back at Dinos body of work. Its bleak to the point of nearly being over the top but I think the fact that a lot is based on a lived experience lends it a lot of weight.

At the same time on the other coast you had Buzzov*en just destroying every club they played. I always think of the 2 bands like long lost cousins. If you dig one, I imagine you'll dig the other. Buzzov*en - Hollow

Dystopia is labeled as a mix of crustpunk and sludge metal, and with both those genres they can contain a lot of misanthropic themes and language. I know a lot of sludge metal bands are very misanthropic and sometimes nihilistic. I personally really enjoy their first album Human = Garbage and those songs have some pretty heavy topics in the lyrics. Also from the small amount of interviews that I've seen the drummer/vocalist Dino Sommese has kind of a nasally voice but when he sings it gets really nasally

Maybe one of the best punk-adjacent songs ever

I would call it Sludge/Crust Punk. You might like Neo Crust Punk better, in particular Epic Crust. It's more melodic and heavily influenced by Melodic Death and Black Metal. The lyrics are still doom and gloom, though. Anything from Remains Of The Day, From Ashes Rise, Tragedy, Morrow, Fall Of Efrafa, Dödsrit, Svdestada, Totem Skin, and so forth is great. By the way, have you listened to Smoke Fairies…?

Unbelievable, the bot deleted my comment...

Dude that sucks. KZbin is such a terrible platform. There are plenty of better ways of handling a comment that is deemed "inappropriate" than to simply delete the entire thing. This happened to me so often during the first year of this channel that I started copying my responses to a notepad before hitting "reply" just in case KZbin ate it.

@@CriticalReactions Yeah, I started composing long comments as gmail drafts because of this idiocy (they even delete it from your comment history). The thing is there was nothing "inappropriate"... maybe the bot decided that a band name or something was suspect. It is sometimes truly puzzling what word it might take issue with... in the past I also verified that it deletes comments if you mention competing services.

@@greggerypeccary Yup. I've noticed that most links are an immediate flag. I hadn't noticed the competing services thing but it wouldn't surprise me.

@CriticalReactions All external links are verboten, except Google services (e.g. Drive). I've even had cases where I tried obfuscating links and it recognized the name of the site... only if you do something like "i|n|s|t|a|g|r|a|m" it will work (slashes and dots don't work). Also words like "m|a|r|k|e|t|i|n|g" might trigger it... the thing is you just never know (if you google "youtube comments disappearing" you'll see a variety of truly weird cases).

@@greggerypeccary I think the "not knowing" part is the worst. They should just have a list somewhere of anything they'll delete comments for. We all know Google is too controlling so they're not saving face by obscuring this info.
