I actually got an update for you on why those weapon lights are rare. I talked with my uncle who carried an SP2340 and an SP2009 during his time with the TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) because that was during their transition period from 40S&W to 9mm. He personally purchased both for familiarity. He told me the light was a piece of shit, even for the day. He went through 3 of them because the recoil and muzzle blast would break bulbs, break the glass and even cracked the housing on the head of the light. His last one actually had the head break off completely and that's why he just threw them in the trash and ran the pistol naked. If those were so fragile under recoil, god knows how bad they were just being carried around in holsters. Good news is that Surefire made an adapter plate. The MR10

The best (and only) pistol laser I've ever had was a Crimson Trace for a Kahr CM9. It fits over the trigger guard so seamlessly it's like it came from the factory with it on. The power button is a button pressure switch that lays right under the middle finger; it activates by just grabbing the pistol firmly. I've used the pistol intermittently over 12 years and the laser is still running strong even though I've _never changed the batteries._ No change to the zero over time either. The CM9 is a pretty good pistol too. So long as you're OK with a 2010s single stack micro 9 with a six round capacity mag built by a weird cult.
@phoenixaries31476 ай бұрын
That's pretty frickin cool those batteries lasted that long, damn. Setting myself up to be roasted for this, but a while back I snagged a Kimber Custom Crimson Carry with the CT grip laser, works the exact same way. Whoever dialed the zero on that fucker was meticulous because it's quite literally vidja game levels of "bullet go where laser go." Had it probably fifteen years now, shot the crap out of it and that lasers never drifted. At night, when I'm dicking around the property popping armadillos and whatnot, it's such a blast. You feel like Matt fuckin Dillion hip firing that thing

Man, I thought I was the only person who even remembered this gun and I had no idea about the laser. It's nice to see them at least attempt to keep some aesthetic with the lines of the gun, everything now looks like varying shapes of lego blocks we're attaching to what we have. I think I'm in the stupid camp of thinking there are still practical uses for visible lasers just that they are limited and by far more detrimental to the user than almost any other sighting system. I don't think there's that many cases where someone needs to physically run while shooting a rifle but maybe that's one. Or maybe it's all bunk and I'm just coping because I liked Resident Evil 4. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think the "attach in the moment" practice has a legit use case. Swat guys can carry the pistol in stock config in a standard holster while on patrol (a laser bearing holster probably wasn't available) and use irons for regular defensive use. If they have to make entry on a barricaded perp, they can attach the laser and use a shield in one hand and pistol in the other. My understanding is that this was/is the use case for vis lasers (since sights are difficult to use with a shield). In that instance, there is a lot more time to prep.

6:15 - Most serious shooters wouldn't do that today, but there was definitely a market for it in pockets of roles, mainly LEO, where the interested parties were people who considered firearms to be more like staplers and hole punchers as an aspect of their job. Even Surefire put out that one rifle/pistol light with the folding arm and picatinny mount that was way too bulky to keep mounted all the time, intended to be worn on the belt and attached as needed. The type of people that appeals to, I've often heard making remarks such as, "Why would I need a QD mount on an optic? It's not like I need to change optics. But a light? Yeah, take the light after when it's daytime, that makes more sense." while they take huge swigs out of the Diet Coke 2-Liter.
