Retired professor Charles (Ted Danson) feels life has nothing new in store for him. A year after his wife’s passing, he’s become stuck in his routine and grown distant from his daughter. But when he spies a classified ad from a private investigator, he’s inspired to roll the dice on a new adventure, going undercover to solve the mystery of a stolen family heirloom.
From creator Mike Schur (creator of The Good Place; co-creator of Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine Nine), A Man on the Inside is based on the documentary The Mole Agent, a 2021 Oscar® nominee for Best Documentary feature.
A Man on the Inside launches Nov 21, only on Netflix.

Fun fact: The premise of this is loosely based on a true story. There was a documentary made about it: The Mole Agent (2020) - "A private investigator in Chile hires someone to work as a mole at a retirement home where a client of his suspects the caretakers of elder abuse".

Well, my mom and I are in. Ted Danson was hilarious in The Good Place. She got all excited to see Sally Struthers, too. We both love mysteries and comedies. And the comparison to high school if you get into a nice community is apt. My grandmother was in assisted living in the '90s, and despite having missed out on high school she had that vibe of being one of the popular girls who sat at the big tables with her friends and talked to every one, and just enjoyed having fun with the other people at the community.

I can't wait to watch TDs next hit. Hashtag team gainfully employed...if one wants to be...at his age!

This looks good! I didn't realize this was based off of The Mole Agent, at first I thought Hollywood was just copying the concept. Also I'll add that The Mole Agent wasn't a straight documentary but included a script and filming of specific scenes, but without putting words in actors mouths (I think) and rather allowing things to unfold. This is characteristic of director Maite Alberdi's style, mixing documentary and fiction to create a narrative, as can be seen in el Salvavidas/The Lifeguard, among others.

They even paraphrase The Good Place with "All any of us really want is more time with the people we love"; in the final episode, this is how Chidi describes his conception of what the Good Place should should be. Also, I did not recognize Stephanie Beatriz the first time through, even though she looks exactly the same as she did on Brooklyn 99. It's amazing what a different voice and performance can do.

At first, I thought it was about Michael and his life on Earth as a human. I was so happy thinking he got his own show. But I am excited for this one too!
