Funfact(not really) about mafumafus emotional singing: mafu suffered from abused from the past the bullying was intense, and some of his songs were stolen by his friend who is a producer and that producer then framed him, making his friends turn there backs on him. Back in the day mafu gave out his information and face, what made him stop showing his face is because when he was popular, fans had started to stalk him, showing up on odd hours, coming to his college to follow him around, he was afraid that he had to move three times or more and refused to leave the house. terrible things happened during the time to him, like how people would break in to his door, physically dragging him in bed to the streets. to the point it got him really depressed, to the point he wished tomorrow wouldn't come. But when he met soraru, everything changed for him, mafu posted this in his blog and said "Unable to overcome a part of this incident, wrecked by the spite and violence, swallowed by despair, the one who reached out his hand to was Soraru-san." Soraru stood up to the person responsible for hurting him and promised to protect mafu from any harm. When his terrible past was finished he wrote songs of his own who has a meaning to it, to his terrible past, he covers songs who has almost same thing that happened to him. Thats why he covers this song. (This is a fact about mafu, and why his voice was amazing to the point it was emotional) im bad at explaining lol his cover to this song is emotional.

fun fact: This is actually a cover of the song even though it is a cover I believe that MafuMafu's version is the best since I think he does the best job in expressing this emotion and you are able to feel this emotion that much more than if you were to listen to a vocaloid EDIT I : im not trying to say vocaloid is bad, i personally really like vocaloid songs. Especially Mafu’s cover itself. Most other people get the song as in “I get the vibes”. But for Mafu, it’s more like “I lived through these exact words”. His cover is so good because a part of his life basically can be summarized by this song. Ex: “Everything can be bought with money (people will abandon you easily)” He was betrayed by his friend who stole his songs, his other friends turned on each other and him. “Always broadcasting “I want to kill you” across radio waves” bullying and haters when he started out. Japanese bullying is different in a way, kind of more brutal actually. But Mafu’s case in 2013-2015 ish was like top 0.001% on severity, any higher and most people are corpses. Verse 2: he had a time where he considered ending it all. In his concert one of his most famous quotes are “I’m living a life I should’ve never had”. If it wasn’t for Soraru, who knows if he would be still alive. Not to mention, even his family didn’t accept him to be a musician until they grudgingly gave approval once he proved himself.

Yeah, personally I almost always prefer human covers instead of the vocaloid original. There’s a bunch of other covers of the song that I love as well, but a lot of them are very different. Mafu’s is much more emotional and passionate, while others sing an almost lamenting version, so it’s super interesting to see people’s interpretations of it and how they alter the source material for themselves.

I love his music. You can really FEEL the emotion and rawness in his words through his songs. For this song specifically, I miss the old translation. I’m not really sure what happened, but the translation lyrics changed and I just really liked the original lyrics a lot better. I always took the ending of this song to be that despite life being bad, people have each other be it a friends or loved ones, "as long as you are still here, that's all we need, yeah, that's actually what i want to sing about". Not to linger on the sad times but to live for the good moments. A song of a sort of similar tone/meaning is Living with Depression by Yanaga Miyuki (I'm not sure about japanese covers but there's a great english cover by Oktavia) and despite it's title it's a beautiful song with a lovely meaning and pretty unique music track. (I've been quietly watching your stuff since the Aishite video, I really enjoy it ^-^ )

Agreed. Meaningfulness in life is relative and subjective and that's all it needs to be. Kind of a response to existential depression maybe. But an answer and feeling you can only find and embrace for yourself. Still, doesn't mean you have to search for it alone. It's better to be in it together.

Another great reaction. This song in particular hit me through a different cover (original producer is Kanzaki, though this has been covered by many others, including Mafumafu) and I think if you are to think of this song as a message for someone else, the songs becomes especially powerful. Because I think in the end the message being delivered is that it is hard to live, but even when there is nothing worth doing so, just the act of meaning means something. Thinking in that sense, especially with how the last few words of this are simply hammering in the word "Live," before ending on "Just live," as though pushing you to do so is very powerful. Anyways, great video as always, and glad you've succeeded in moving forward with life.

TW; I wish i found this song when i was at my lowest. It has such a deeply pessimistic meaning, but at the end of the day, the person is telling you to live. I struggled so much with suicidal thoughts, and at one point already made a plan and started drafting my farewell notes. I felt so light and free about the thought of death. Idk why i ended up calling a crisis hotline, but i guess it was my sunconscious trying to scream at me to live. I don't know where i would be today if i didn't make that call and got professional help. Mental illness like depression is so stigmatized because we don't look any different from other people. It's true that it's normal for everyone to get depressed moods at one point in their lives, but with depression, there's a real chemical imbalance happening that alters your thinking. Even i never considered my depression as real and thought that i was a fraud for the longest time for feeling the way that i do. But my mental health team made me realize that i was really sick, and that my thoughts and feelings weren't my own but because of my illness. I hope more songs like these get created, so more and more people can get a glimpse of what people who suffer from mental illness feel like. It's not just sadness; sadness is just the tip of the iceberg to a much more complex and multifaceted illness. I still feel like wanting to die some days, but i have more okay days than bad.

I feel like this song specifically speaks to people struggling with depression. Heavy emphasis on struggling because the tune sounds melancholic and sad but the lyrics are blunt and harsh and it’s sounds like the song writer is trying desperately to encourage people to live on despite how bad everything is. Trying to comfort people the best they can despite not being willing to lie to them and promise that everything will be fine. That’s definitely what I feel when Mafumafu was trying to do at least. And actually. Songs with that theme to them make people who are suicidal feel the most comfort. It’s not that “things will get better” it’s that, things suck and it’s hard to live but at least someone else is with you to share in that pain. It’s really inspiring and out of all songs this one gives me the most encouragement.

This song makes me wanna make a book about life called "Living while slowly Dying". From my perspective, this song reminds us to value our lives equal to other people you care about, that we shouldn't regret our choices even though we end up the same way. The fallen leaves that represent our lives means that even though we fall apart from the trees and the other leaves, the tree will bloom again meaning that someone will take your place and some part of you will be living with them. And the last part "Just Live" means exactly. It means that even though we make mistakes and have a regretful life full of sadness and agony, we should just accept it and wait for something good to happen since "Just Live" is and order to wait patiently and to see where life can take you. Even though our road(life) ahead is dark and cold, we just have to keep going to see that beautiful blue skies ahead and that view of light in the end of your road because even before dying, the best views is seeing your success of overcoming that dark and thorny path behind you and just enjoying the view because We Are Living While Slowly Dying. I hope you guys have some time reading this. It may not make alot of sense but writing it from the heart is what matters. Wrote this while listening to the song.

A friend of mine made me listen to Mafumafu's songs and covers. It was during september 2018, as school was starting again we learnt we were going to the same class and so we talked about Mafu together when we could between classes, in the bus etc. It was also a time where I was struggling with my mental health that was worsening. A few of his songs were hitting hard (Like Hello Dystopia) and then I listened to this cover of Hated By Life itself, and the text hit hard , but his voice was hitting harder. I was listening to this song on loop , contemplating dark thoughts and acts, but in the end, Mafu was one of the artists that made me keep going. With Mafu I discovered other Utaite, as a lot of them actually know each other, and some of them like Soraru and Amatsuki also indirectly helped me. To this day I still listen to them and some songs help me through a lot . Im thankful to my friend for a lot, making me discover Mafu, but also, she helped me and still is helping me and supporting me. Im better now, and I am fighting even if there are dark and difficult times, I try to keep going

I've been listening to the song ever since Kuro posted it on their NND channel. What Miku sang really hurted me by how it was accurate. I wasn't bullied, nor did I wished to die. I was one of those people, trying to help someone from dying. A friend of mine in middle school was in a severe depression. I did my best to not let them go, because they needed help, but didn't have the voice to cry for help anymore. The beginning of the song is very hard for me to listen to because the sentence "You don't care if you die, but you care if people around you die", it was something that I kept saying to them, when Miku sang it, I almost broke in tears. I never was in the place of a person wanting to die, yet for some reason the song really resonated with me. Actually, I understood what my friend was in because of this song. Yet when I listened to the song, it was already too late. I lost my friend because they lost their life. When I finished listening to the song, I was already crying. I remembered feeling guilty for not understanding my friend better and letting them die. A year later, Mafu uploaded his cover of the song. Once again I listened to it. The original version was lacking emotion, yet I understood the emotion going through the song, but Mafu's voice made it even harder for me to listen to it. It was like my friend was singing this to me, screaming at me for not understanding anything. But I know it wasn't them singing it to me, but still, I would have loved if they were saying "Just live". I realized that I just kept saying "You don't care if you die, but you care if people around you die", to make them understand that I would be sad if they die. But I was just selfish, I was only thinking about myself, about how I felt, not about how they felt. For a long time, I tried not to listen to the song, I especially didn't want to hear the "You care if people around you die" line, it just reminded me of my mistakes. Time didn't healed my wound. Again, a year later, it was the birthday of that friend that wasn't with me anymore. I don't know why, but I listened to that song again, something just made me wanting to listen to it. Once again I cried, but not because of guilt. Through Mafu's voice, I would hear my friend not screaming at me, but telling me to "Just live". I realized that I was able to fully understand the song. Without me knowing, I fell into a depression. That song broke me and saved me at the same time. This time, it was my friend telling me not to die, I'm very glad that I listened to them. I would never be grateful enough to Kuro, Miku, Mafu and my friend for saving me.

This song saved me multiple times. It's extremely well put together, because if you are in that situation where everything in life seems like it's meaningless and if you struggled with these feelings for a long time, hearing someone say that life is worth something is not enough. How the song opens is exactly the kind of thing that makes people in that situation relate to it. Slowly it describes our mindset to a T before giving us a reason to live. If not for someone else, if not for yourself, then at least until the next day. "I've gotten this far, let's see how far I can go." is a phrase I ended up repeating day after day. But it was enough for me to keep going long enough to find things that were worth living for. I mean, I always had things that I wanted to do but at some point, I lost track of them. This song helped me find them again.

I only recently found out about this song. It appeared on my front page just today, but it seems like its been out for a while now and I couldn't have found a better time for this song, because I've had an incredibly bad depressive episode over the last two days. This is the worst I've felt in years. I was trying to snap myself out of it. I was trying desperately. I went to sleep, and woke up to this song on my suggestions. Its helped me a lot. And hearing your take on it helped me appreciate it even more! Life is tough, and its hard to imagine the future. You can fantasize about the wonders of TOMORROW, but it's hard when it feels impossible to survive TODAY. Anyways, I'm rambling. I just wanted to thank you for this. I appreciate your take on this and helping to share this song with a hurt person who really needed to hear it.

this song is amazing it describes exactly how i feel, ive had those exact thoughts, actually im not afraid of the end of my life (like the concept of my life ending), im just scared of the pain it takes to get there, even so ive harmed myself and contemplated suicide many times, I have such little regard for my life, and ive gone so far as to have an explanation why I care about others dying and not me dying, i came to the conclusion that im a selfish brat that only wants them for their connection with me and not anything else, despite that i still think Life is meaningless since we have the same fate and feelling these feelings are just instincts of ours, just like when you come face to face with a life ending threat you are scared its just instinct, i was even at a point once in my life where i could have potentially died and i just sat there and accepted it (i had asthma and didnt have my puffer) point is, this video describes how i feel pretty much EDIT: and thats why the song really hit me hard when I first read the lyrics and listened to it

Wow, that was really deep. I'm honored to have been introduced to this song and I'm glad you reacted to it. I love songs and writings with deep meanings like this one, even if it's depressing or sensitive. A lot of people have those kinds of thoughts; I'm sure we all do (or at least we will) at some point in our life. Many have been diagnosed with depression and often have suicidal thoughts. It's a real-life problem and I think it's great to have the awareness spread in songs. aH that was sad, but great video! ❤️

Wow... I've just searched for some reaction videos to this beautiful and deep song by one of my favorite utaite and you were the first video I clicked. It is the first time seeing you and I've to say, your words made me shed tears. They expressed the exact meaning of this song in my eyes. A couple of days ago, one of my favorite actors passed away after taking the wrong decision... He was so young and that makes me feel so sad. Therefore, I listen to Mafumafu's song again and thought to myself "if only he could hear those words... If only there was someone around him who could have supporting him..." Words can affect someone's soul and can make them choose a different path. Words can tear someone's world or build it. It is all depends on how you use them. You have a warm heart and your feelings shown through your video expressed this fact better than your words. I felt your feelings through your video. That, my friend, is just one reason to why your channel deserve so much more support! I decided to be one of those supporters. If people around you laugh at you for who you are or for what your hobbies are, please don't listen to them! Laugh back! People are releasing their anger, sadness, depression, frustration and jealousy by humiliating others and making them look weaker just because they want to feel better about themselves. If I had any song to describe my mental health/thoughts it would be this song. I have been battling depression since elementary. This song actually describes what I think to myself in my lowest points. And having these thoughts going around your head is a nightmare. I try to forget but they keep coming back like a flood that came out of nowhere. And this song is really trippy to hear the things you hear in your head. To anyone who hear these thoughts at night don’t let them win. Distract you brain with something else to remove those thoughts. It’s a pain to get rid of these thoughts when they consume you. So fight on and continue living. You’ll see the beautiful if not for the the people then the beauty of earth.

You can really hear the pain on the final note…. The “Just Live” feels like the vocalist is screaming out to those who are listening and feel the same way to not die. The pain of losing a loved one to suicide I can only imagine. And the pain I put my family through with my attempts… I got help and was registered to the hospital for mental help… and honestly it made me realize that I don’t ever want my family to go through a funeral cause of my decision… I don’t want to kill them from my death. Please anyone out there that feels suicidal, just know you will find someone out there who loves you and would die if you were to go. Shit gets rough and hell we fuck up in life but that’s part of living. We are only human. Love and cherish yourself cause your soul and your life is precious. 🩵

I found your channel recently and I absolutely love your thoughts and inputs on all the songs you’ve listened to. And hearing your thoughts on this song and mafumafu, one of my favorite artists, it makes me so happy. I remember when I first heard this cover, and as someone who struggles with depression daily, the pain in mafu’s voice got to me and I couldn’t stop crying. Seeing you hold back tears is a testament to how powerful human emotions are and how emotions can affect media. If you listen to more of mafumafu, I highly recommend his covers of self-inflicted achromatic, abandoned stella, ikanaide, lemon, idola circus, and flamingo. For original songs, I highly suggest jigsaw puzzle, keep out, berserk, RPG, FPS, a red balloon, apple fireworks and sea of soda, and hindoki. I’m excited to see what other songs you react to!

If you still feel like to listen to a song like this (with deep, meaningful and hopeful message), I recommend to listen to Soraru's cover of "The Reason I Wanted To Die / 僕が死のうと思ったのは" Soraru is utaite like Miyashita Yuu, Eve and a close friend of Mafumafu. After watching your Miyashita Yuu reaction I felt like you will like his voice too, so I couldn't help wanting to recommend him! Soraru is legendary for his low, breathy voice, with a slight drawl. I always took this song as a reminder to appreciate our lives more with lines like "we say we don't want our life as if life is always there" being alive in itself is a miracle and because we don't appreciate our own lives "we are hated by life itself". When he says that line his voice almost seems mad. And by the end of the song when he's urging you to just live it feels like a reassurance that life does have good parts and that even though we're all going to die anyway it's worth the ride for all those good moments you experience in life

Hey shooshi, I think I can relate about what you said at 9:40. I saw in your first video that you were once in a soccer team, but it seems you can no longer play it like you used to. I know it sucks, since I’ve gone through the same situation. Every Friday evening, me and my high school friends used to play futsal. It was a routine back then, something we did every once a week. I didn’t have any particular skill, but I REALLY enjoyed every second of it. Chasing the ball, pressing opponent’s forward, sweating my shirt out. I felt thrilled when I stepped on the green turf. However, things started to change when we graduated. We are busy with our own businesses. We have no more chance to meet, let alone play futsal. I can no longer do something I love. Nonetheless, I’m glad you have this channel to rediscover your passion, be it Japanese culture, video making, public speaking, or whatever it is. I wish you all the best for your future journey!

_Dang it man,_ I haven't cried about this song in a while. Ever since I first found it. You got it right off the bat. You get it. Hi, nice to meet you! I'm a Vocaloid fan for 10 years now and that's mainly how I know this song. And out of everything I've heard, Hated By Life Itself is one of my all time favorites, especially Mafumafu's cover. Raon Lee and Majiko are two others I listen to, but the power of Mafumafu's voice is unparalleled. Yes, cover. Kanzaki Iori wrote the song and he is one of the single producers who really understands "the truth hurts" and writes about mental illness and daily struggles in a way that's understandable and conveys what Kanzaki himself wants to convey. This song means a lot to me. I've unfortunately been in that state of mind of... well, basically suicidal thoughts, and I understand what you're saying. I think Hated By Life Itself is talking about literally being hated by life itself. The things that go wrong in our lives - our battles and our struggles. It's like life itself is trying to take us down for not being grateful for being alive. We care little about our own lives and focus more on everyone else, and it's like we're punished for it. Yet when we see that there is a reason to live - whether that reason is a somebody or a something - it doesn't matter if we all die in the end. Sure, that's our ultimate fate, but life is all about what we do before we get there. What you make out of your life. It's about the journey, not what happens at the end. I hate that the title is "Life hates us now" and I blame KZbin's AI. I think I'm going to go to Mafumafu's video now and correct the English lyrics too because some of that ain't right either, but the English doesn't matter at this point. Mafumafu is a powerhouse, his voice is super unique and he’s one of the most famous utaites ever, along the ranks of REOL. His vocal range used to be lower but after years of pushing his higher range due to popular demand he’s been permanently stuck with a higher range. His cover songs really range from emotional songs like this one to very cute happy ones. He also makes his own music! “Berserk” is a song he made entirely from instrumental to vocals to visuals which has somewhat similar themes to this but it’s amazing and infamously tough to cover due to the high notes. Once again, great video as usual! Really gotta love how diverse vocaloid songs are and how they can address so many topics so intimately. When I first heard the song I cried too lol, it just hit so hard, especially with the idea of not minding ourselves dying but caring about if others do and that general aimlessness of life.
