The song "Eat the Elephant" was co-written with Chester Bennington before his passing. It was originally going to be a Linkin Park song on "One More Light" but didn´t make the cut, so it was re-worked for the APC album.

It is so difficult to change habits, especially "bad" ones. Overthinking, any inner mental chit-chat, any addiction to any substance and/or addiction to any kind of pleasurable action it is so hard to change. It is scary, it is a haunting feeling of emptiness, helplessness, loneliness, sometimes all at once. And it takes a lot of patience, especially towards oneself. Never give up! I wish anyone who decide to take the first step, the first bite to "eat the elephant" much-much courage and love on their way. Seek those people around you and closest in your life, and ask them for support, they will not turn you down, they might not understand your addiction, but they will understand your struggle and be there if you fail and be there if you succeed.. Peace.

No, it's not hard to change. If you really want to, you can do it. If you or anyone, for that matter, find it really hard, you are just living by your ego. You'll not find the answers anywhere else but, inside of you. Start by making questions to yourself. What makes you do the things you do? Why do you damaged yourself? Generally, is about your inner wounding, childhood trauma, etc... You and only you, is responsible for yourself, no one else.

The tone of this song is so perfect. There's a unique flavor of depression that comes from looking at a daunting task ahead of you, and you can just watch the opportunities slip away while you spend your time trying to think through it all. I'm still working on getting better at taking the bite, but this song certainly helped get me through a tech boot camp! Side note, what a great album! I wish it had a little more fanfare, I only ever stumbled upon because I happened to be searching Amazon Unlimited for APC one time. IMO, Eat the Elephant is their best record so far. Shows how you can evolve a band's sound without sacrificing the musical cores that made you so good in the first place.

j mace and 40 years ago The Who were singing about the death of rock. So what? It’s still here. Good rock might not get a lot of radio play, or promotion in the media, but there’s still tons of great bands putting it out there. Rock is dead only if we let them kill it. And they are trying. Just look at the shit that *is* being shoved in our faces. Cookie-cutter divas and soy-boybands. Who wants to hear that? Rock will be with us as long as we want it to be. As far as APC goes, I never used to like them much, because I always compared them to TOOL in my mind. But then I saw them live, and everything changed. Their shows are a fine example of a tastefully done rock concert. I can remember when bands like the Doors and Jefferson Airplane were new, so I’ve been around long enough to know the difference. Rock has a heart, and just because there’s not always shredding guitars and screaming vocals doesn’t mean it’s not rock. But APC puts all of that into their live shows, which to me is really what their music is supposed to be. You want to know for sure rock is alive and well? Don’t listen to the radio. Go see live shows. Big names, local bands, it doesn’t matter. That’s where you’ll find it.

Im pretty sure there are mistakes. I believe that it's "this massive endeavor" And it is "just take the bite" which makes sense because the song name is "EAT the elephant". There was a lyrics site that I won't link that said something like"how do you go about overcoming the elephant in the room? One bite at a time." Edit: I also wanted to add that I believe that this song is about his mother, I know he has a few songs about her and her passing, I believe that this is a song explaining that he still is having a hard time getting over his loss. Could be wrong but that's what I thought.

The theme of “Eat the Elephant” is about confronting all of the tough subjects or “the elephant in the room” so you can begin to overcome them. It also answers - without saying it in as many words - the age-old question: How do you go about eating an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time. It doesn’t matter where you start, you just have to jump in and begin.

This is exactly how I felt before getting sober. Absolutely terrified, really wanting to but couldn’t find the will to take that step. Ironically enough, it was actually seeing Tool live in 2017 after eating some acid, exactly 10 months to the day after my grandpa passed on my birthday (and a bunch of weird coincidence that some stuff up for that concert a little too perfectly)-and having my world fall to pieces in a matter of months at the exact time. Then the next day eating the rest of it laying in my bed staring at the ceiling the whole time, just listening to all my Tool A Perfect Circle cds. Contemplating my life, who I allowed in it, what I was going to do with myself, how seriously I needed to get of opiates and how destructive they to my life, how I had changed as a person, how everyone thought of me, did they think of me, did they care, the absolute hollowness I felt. Everything. The next day I checked into an outpatient rehab and cut literally everyone single person out of my life, even some family members. As much as you’d think that suck; I’m better for it though I think. As cliché and corny as it, Tool and A Perfect Circle changed my life. Literally. Personally, I genuinely believe the Universe was sending a sign that something need to change. If you knew exactly how strange everything ended up lining up leading up and during the concert, you’d be hard pressed to also think something sending me a sign, and I heeded it.
