I too enjoyed how Pierre broke down Alan's speaking. I guess you would be more fit to say his questioning and answering process that leads to deeper sense of knowing into the topic. I believe Alan will be even MORE enjoyable to listen to after this. :)

To have stumbled across such a succinct and eloquent encapsulation of Alan's work has been a revelation. For me, stumbling through the works of J.Krishnamurti, Alan Watts, Yung and his contemporaries, this lecture has done so much, I am unable to express it. One of the best talks I have heard for a long time, thank you. I think emotional pain is a great way of learning - if the ego surrenders. The dialectic way of observing one's ignorance if done "in comfort" can be a virtue trap. The ego has to give up, surrender - master becomes servant. For example, my wife's death taught me more than a lifetime of "work".

So the Buddha said the same thing as Socrates -- if socrates says everywhere you are blocked it is due to ignorance and knowledge is the solution. The Four Noble Truths of the Buddha. And Watts did get into all that. This is fine but very rudimentary since it is based off a 1950 book by Watts. Also Watts would use daoism as a way to "flow" around problems, using the path of least resistance, etc. He also had a lot to say about the Zen method which harkens to this "presence" but as a very concentrated state that pierces through the ego and time and space. He did understand Greek thought but he was a philosopher of Asian traditions and religions. I love that Watts eschewed traditional academia. I believe he was an enlightened being and, sadly, probably not of the boddhisattva variety so the world may never have another Alan Watts.

The fact is The Supreme Identity is the one book that Alan somewhat later disparaged as too much of an intellectualization. I believe he addresses this in his autobiography, In My Own Way

As an admirer of "Peace Pilgrim" who walked the walk (You tube for those who don't know her). She stated that maturity is a prerequisite, for higher consciousness, which is confirmed by this talk. Allan Watts life did not reflect this sadly.

Because potential for actualization is Infinite, actualization of potential is Eternal, for only Eternity can fully embrace Infinity. We actualize our potential by dreaming our experience and experiencing our dream. Primordial ignorance presents an apparent limit. Is it a limit or a creative guideline? No wrong answer - only a choice of perspective. Truthformation: What appears as a limit is in Reality a creative guideline. It is identification with the temporal that blocks awareness of our Eternal nature. Freedom is a Way of Being. Being aware of being aware is unmodulated by the 5 senses, thus unfettered and the resonant frequency state closest in alignment with the frequency of the all-inclusive Absolute where all things are possible (Wisdom and Understanding). Every choice we make generates a corresponding timeline of experience. The rhythm of Life is a movement and a rest.The optimum (Heaven), is always found somewhere between the extremes of too much and too little (hell). We seek to become Master Wayfarers because the only destination is a new Way of Being.
