Beautiful combining family time with rock hunting. I love taking my grandchildren to help me hunt. They even like rocks. Also using it as a teaching experience too. I found a large petoskey for the oldest, a pudding stone for the youngest and an onyx for the middle child.

You would have loved the river I was at yesterday. I walked 4or5 km in knee deep water and that entire way is filled with nice agates. No one in this area knows anything about rocks or agates so it's all mine. Plus I did some fishing on the way and landed 10 walleye, 5 bass and 2 pike. The fish all went back but 120lbs of rocks and agates came home in my backpack. And I'm pretty positive a large rough sapphire and a couple small rough diamonds. Northern ontario seems to be packed with amazing agates. Thanks for making the vids, you have helped me to determine what's agate and whats other rocks.
@grantfahlman18154 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, do you mind if I ask where, approximately, you have such a great location. As a fellow Cdn. collector (in Regina), I'm somewhat surprised by that. Thanks!
@mikemorenz22344 жыл бұрын
Grant Fahlman in northern ontario, temiskaming district. There is an ancient dormant volcano in its north end and another in the southern end. And therefore 2 giant kimberlite fields and some truly amazing geology. I've personally discovered a large rhodonite deposit and an area where nearly every fossil shell is filled with druzy like geodes. I love geology , gemology and paleontology so this is a perfect place to pretty much have to myself for rock hounding. If you ever head this way to rockhound let me know and I could show you some mind blowing locations.

I've never been agate hunting, so this is just observation. It might be that a narrow beach might psychologically slow down your search. I've heard you agate guys say how you wouldn't have seen a rock if you hadn't knelt down to look at something else. Then you see two, three, four. On the other end of the spectrum, those huge gravel bars you get on, super long and wide, maybe you are tempted to search faster because you have so much to search? Anyway, it seems like you kill it on narrow little beaches.
