A Skateboarding Game With Boss Fights? Evolution Skateboarding Review

Evolution Skateboarding is a mostly forgotten about PS2/Gamecube skateboarding game from 2002. It had some really innovative ideas - like boss battles! You fight a semi truck, a tank, and maybe even a giant crab monster? You also free kidnapped kids and all kinds of other weird stuff. Is there a story that ties all these things together? Is the game worth playing?

Rad Rat actually there are hidden boss fights with the Konami Characters. If you played as Simon Belmont who is Called Vampire Hunter in this game you can Fight Dracula Playing as Snake and Raiden you can fight a Metal Gear

I just have to say bro, your confidence and camera manner has come on LEAPS AND BOUNDS since you started. You're so much more animated and engaging. I played this game a lot as a kid and I agree with everything you said. It's just weird to me how you didn't mention anything about the soundtrack, it had 3 Primus songs from the Frizzle Fry album. It was an alright soundtrack. And the spider (not crab) boss fight is the best of the game, it feels like the main boss fight, the tank and semi truck fights feel like filler boss battles compared to it

i had this game way back when. the controls were so counter-intuitive(square=kickflip?) after having grown up with the THPS series. But i loved it for its simplicity actually, the levels are sick and the physics are way more challenging/realistic than the tony hawk games.

There’s multiple bosses, like Dracula. It’s not CastleVania-like, it literally is Castlevania. There’s music from Symphony of the Night and Simon Belmont is a skater

Played the demo so many times back when it was about to release (or just released, I don't remember) I really liked it honestly. The more realistic approach appealed more to me then the tony hawk games where tricks don't seems to have any weight (I completed 3, thug, thug 2, aw and project 8 to be clear).

clumsy as this game was I actually really liked playing it next to tony hawk. tony hawk from a realism pov was just too fast and easy and this game was more... realistic to nail a flip grind combo flip tricks and grinds were pretty satisfying

First off, love your skateboard video game series. At first, I was going to say that you were being a bit nitpicky in the review criticizing the incorrect terms used; but that is coming from me, a gamer, not a skateboarder. I then thought how annoying it would be to play a baseball game (my passion) and have it call a single a "one-baser" or a home run a "fence ball," and then I realized where your frustration comes from with the mislabeling and incorrect animations lol.

Awesome stuff man. Have you ever done a review on Thrasher Skate and Destroy for PS1? I remember playing the demo a ton but never owned the game. It was so realistic, it was Skate before Skate was ever a thing. Just doing a tre flip to a grind was hard to pull off. Loved it.

It seems like it would be good to mod & play as snake 🐍 or castlevania characters. I would even like to play as contra characters or other konami game 🎮 People. Of course the gameplay would need to be smoother along with new tricks\tracks. Probably better bosses also like Metal Gear.

The only thing i really liked about this game when i had/played it was that Arto Saari 7 mark Appleyard (2 of my faves) playable in the game. & the only way i ended up with a copy of the game is cause a friend of mine was getting ready to sell it to gamestop or EB (idr what game stores were poppin back then) but i was like mah i'll take it off ur hands. Cause i thought "shit, its a skate game, how crazy could it be?" That question was answered when i had to fight a ficking TANK!!!! with just a skateboard by grinding on it. hahaha if it wasn't for him, i prolly never woulda had this game, even with Appleyard & Saari in it. cause shit Arto was added to THUG 1 anyway so i woulda had that eventually. As far as skating portion goes. i don't think it was THAT bad. It was just a really off the wall, outta left field kinda game. Hahaha XD
