Here lies the TRUE STORY why the Others/White Walkers brought the Long Night to Westeros while the known world also affected. The Night King and the rest of the White Walkers minds were enslaved by magic that the Children of the Forest cast on them as suitable weapons against the First Men during the war against them. After the war ended and the pact sealed between the Children and the First Men. The Others were put into a slumber in the Land of the Always Winter in frigid ice tombs until a time for them to be used again. But upon the coming Age of Heroes, the magic that enslaved the minds of the White Walkers and their king were weakened and soon broken. It was this forthcoming that the Night King finally regained his consciousness over a long a centuries being a puppet for the Children of the Forest. But his other kins have no conscience for they are long empty husk of their former self. They themselves can still follow the absolute order of their king. Only the Night King has intelligence that of a human but he can't never remember who he is from the time before he became what he is. Though he never forgets the ones that did this to him in the first place. The Long Night begins. Not a cataclysm that played as a cycle against the survival of the human race. But a ravenous revenge and vengeance that the Night King felt unto him towards the Children of the Forest. He only marched from the north of Westeros to the south as to find and massacred and bring extinction to his makers and puppeteers, the Children of the Forest. The First Men were only his way that resulted in collateral damage. Being short-sighted, the First Men mistook the White Walkers intention along the impending cold winter unleashed by them as something that would driven them to extinction. Soon it reached as a climax that the First Men noted this as the War of the Living and the Dead, the War of the Dawn. The Children of the Forest also put themselves as also siding with the First Men but entirely hiding all along it was their mistake of creating and unleashing something they thought they have it controlled. Like it happened in the tale, both the Night Watch and the Last Hero were able to push the Others and their horde of undead farther north. But in reality, the Night King had seen enough that his entourage towards the killing of the Children of the Forest given him an insight that no farther sooner the Children last surviving members won't last in the world. He made it look like the Last Hero and the Night Watch able to defeat him and his fellow kins. In truer perspective, he was just pulling back his forces in the Land of Always Winter and once again to slumber for centuries to come. The Wall was built and act as a deterrent against the Others if they intent to go south. It was at the time in the aftermath of the Long Night that the Children of the Forest spread the word that the White Walkers and the Night King are pure cold evil incarnate and a threat to the living. Going on and on that they have no conscience mind but just pure hate and cruelty to all living things, a monsters. They're painting them as something the world doesn't need. Worshipers of the Old Gods but liars in a sense. Just not knowing the facts that the real reason the Others killed all of them was an act of revenge bias the Night King intention. After 8,000 years, he's awoken once again but is completely unknown what his intention towards Westeros. As what the Starks used to say "Winter is Coming".

Start reading 'elfquest'. I suspect GRR Martin of having based the Children in ASOIAF on the Elves from Wendy and Richard Pini's Elfquest. A lot of the storylines come back in Martins' work. I wonder if that is his usual style? I hardly think so, considering his other work. But to me Martin is very obvious in what he lifts from other peoples' work and molds it to his own asoiaf universe

@@kristopherbarker3282 Skin Changing and Green Sight are not the same power. Though the two things have been conflated to be the same power , may even act in similar ways and our POV characters in some cases describe the two powers as being the same. There is never a time when these two powers are contextually connected with evidence and the opinions that state that they are the same; never come from an actual experience by a user of the powers. If you look at the times when the powers are being used near The Wall you can clearly see the differences being demonstrated, as the wall stops people from skin changing across it but not from using green sight from one side to the other. Jon is cut off from Ghost several times when they are on opposite sides of the Wall and their connection returns immediately when they are back again on the same side. Yet Bran is able to access the "memories" of the weirwood tree at Winterfell while in contact with the tree in Blood Raven's grotto very easily. Skin Changers are common above the Wall and mythical below it. In short the Children limited the power that wasnt theirs, skin changing, while helping Brandon build the Wall and not the power that they use, green sight,. I would also point out that the actual acts are viewed differently. Skin Changing is described in several places as almost a violation or attack, (The skin changer seeking to actively control the object of the "magical" event, )of an animal/person(to the point where strong willed creatures will fight the process) were Green sight is referenced in terms of a passive sharing of information or seeing through or knowing of something. And this is ultimately why "our story" Bran is important; He can do both,...He may be the only one who has ever been able to do both or at the very least the only one to be able to do both in a very long time(it doesn't matter). Even Blood Raven cant do both,( though I would argue that he was led to the grotto to begin with because someone thought that he could.) because contextually he never actually says do as I do/did, he always phrases his instructions to Bran as what has been done or can be done or what you will be able to do. Whenever BR actually refers to his past life as Brynden Rivers and his past powers(remember once again he never refers to himself in the first person present tense) he always phrases it in terms of failure and inability to complete what was started etc. But,..ultimately yes,.. it is implied heavily that Crannogmen are genetic chimera of Ifequevron(The Children only being a sub species of a broader ethnic group) and humans. This blending is the source of the powers seen demonstrated by several of the more esoteric characters throughout the novels:(extreme long life, prophesy/vissions, stealth and connection to nature), such as the Ghost of High Heart,Jenny of Oldstones, Alys Rivers, Howland Reed, The Green Men of the Isle of Faces etc. And is sharply contrasted by powers demonstrated by other equally esoteric characters of power such as Maggy the Frog, Mirri Maz Duur, Maester Marwyn, Tobho Mott, Melissandre Euron etc,..who all seem to have powers that derive from sources less "natural" in origin.
@CrimsonUltrafox
@CrimsonUltrafox 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is heavily implied that the Crannogmen who guard the neck to the North are descended from Children and First Men hybrids. They are described as small and have strong magical bloodlines. House Reed, who rules the Neck are very unusual and private compared to other nobles houses even in the north. They use guerilla tactics and don't really care much for honor. Also, Howland Reed's son, Jojen Reed is a greenseer which likely comes from a shared bloodline with children of the forest.

@@christophermitchell7001 actually, Bloodraven told Bran that 1 out of 1000 skinchangers are greenseers. That (too me at least) implies that you cannot be a greenseer w/o being a skinchanger
@christophermitchell7001
@christophermitchell7001 5 жыл бұрын
@@kristopherbarker3282 As I said in my comment his phrasing is always peculiar and non personal. But more directly to the point; all information is given via unreliable narrators with incomplete knowledge,.. this includes BR. Cat and Arianne are some of the worst about this, claiming things are thousands of years old that we know are not, that there are no weirwoods south of the neck when we know that there are, etc etc. But All information has to be parsed with in the context of how that information applies to the events as demonstrated by all the characters. When you look at how the powers actually work within the story it requires more explanation to say that they are the same thing than it does if they are just different powers. Along with how we see the wall works we have the people who live on each side of the Wall. There are plenty of skin changers north of the wall if those powers led to green sight there should be loads of those above the wall as well,...But there arent, It isnt like these skin changers are hiding you would think that the green seer skin changers would be as well known just like the skin changers are. And there are plenty of people with green sight like abilities south of the wall but very few skin changers, if any ,... Did those people skip a step or are they hiding their powers of skin changing while using other powers more or less openly? Was Jojen a skin changer and he just didnt use that power or he kept that part of his power a secret like how he tried to down play his green dreams? Meera outed him pretty quick you would think she would out him with a skin changing power if he had it, but she doesnt because he doesnt have skin changing powers he is only a weak green seer. Additionally This phrase particularly is a classic example of how Martin writes(hell how he communicates in general, Remember his quote last year about "Many have speculated Aegon knew..."people started making all these wild theories that were all immediately confirmed as false when Fire and Blood was released) where he allows his words that have a huge latitude of interpretation. By giving us these "answers" to questions, that are actually not answers at all, he builds mystery into his work. By misleading the reader to believe the incorrect information that the characters believe, while he contradicts that information within the story context is just his style of double speak. All BR actually says here "Only one man in a thousand is born a skinchanger, and only one skinchanger in a thousand can be a greenseer." is that green seers are one in a million. The implication that the two powers are the same or that one power leads to the other is something that you infer into the statement because you expect that to be true when it contextually is not.

@@CivilizationEx Nice please do the Elves in it they're pretty damn cool! Though Witcher and Human history's are cool too. Pretty much most of it's lore is so it will be a great addition to your profile!

Why he would even add any of the nonsense from the TV series I have no idea.

Anyone familiar with Elfquest? Especially the Kings' of the Broken Wheel-saga? GRR Martin has lifted a LOT about the children directly from elfquest. The main characters are elf-like creatures(they're not elves,tho)Immortal, Big eyes, deep connection with nature, small.like children, four fingers, magical, telepaths, prosecuted by humans, made a pact, almost made extinct after the iron age and considered legend in the middle ages although, in rural areas, people still believe in the 'children of the night'. Just like the North in ASOIF still believes that Children still exist beyond the wall. Some have the ability to 'shapeshift(warging/skinchanging)' some can read and see the minds and events in the past and present, to determine the fate of all in the future. Sounds a lot like Bloodraven, warging and greenseeing... Dany talks about breaking the wheel. The neverending cycle of suffering through oppression. The same mistakes being made over and over again. For centuries. Elfquest has a series 'the Kings of the Broken Wheel'. The key person has the ability and opportunity to manipulate a past event in order to erase the ugly present and start a new beginning. Bran has that same ability to see. But it is up to Dany or Aegon/John to start a new beginning by destroying what was and is. Or to have faith in humanity and not erase/change the past but deal with the present. To defeat the Night's King at a great cost and have faith that people will remember how they defeated a common enemy as one because they CHOSE to be led by someone instead of being told to do so. Past and present will make them change and do things differently. That's what it's gonna boil down to: it did in Elfquest. The more I see how GRR Martin uses other people's work and history to create his world of ice and fire; the more predictable he becomes. I haven't read any of his other bookseries but from what I have heard; his sci-fi stuff is a lot more 'original' than his ASOIF world. Nothing to take away from Martin(because the stories are still amazing and his world is highly detailed and dense) but, it would be remiss not to mention Richard and Wendy Pini. I wish Martin would at least acknowledge that part of his fictional world; he does it with everything else?

Because it's not canon to the ASOIAF.

It's Canon to the show. But in the books it's simply a theory, Just think about how many things in the books are different to the show...The entirety of Dorne's plotlines, Stannis Baratheon is still alive and winning his war, The Blackfire's and False Targaryen's, Jon hasn't died or been resurrected yet if at all ETC. So in the books the White Walkers might have the same origins as the show (with vastly more details and importance) Or George could come up with something completely different. We won't know until A Dream of Spring or The Winds of Winter come out and tell us. Until then it's only a theory in the books.
