Ya know, foot work is so important. I know we spend a lot of time fighting in a linear mindset where the opponent is right in front of us, but every real fight I've ever been in has been a total hairball. In real life, your opponent is probably constantly moving. Add a gun or a knife to the mix, and being able to move effectively becomes even more important. I'm a big fan of any drill that incorporates movement and reading/reacting to your opponent's body language. Good shit.

Prince William Police Department was teaching drills like that in the 90s. Moving off the center line at all times has always been a key principle of modern gun fighting. Its good your revitalizing the tactic, I'm surprised it wasn't always taught.

My takeaway, besides the legitimate instruction, is that the Resident Evil animated movie directors were on to something with those entirely incredible gun-kata scenes.

More and more of the sports world being pulled into firearm training and its absolutely effective. Just by reading shoulders, hips, and elbows...in other words; reading biomechanical keys to determine how to move off the X and into an incongruent attack position that favors you rather than the attacker. 👍

We do a drill like this but for stickwork - just remember to add in what happens if he changes the plan. He turns and pulls, sees you're not there and pivots.

Do you have a playlist that covers the general topic of gun fighting? I have always had a general interest in firearms but I've never really researched anything regarding technique or what to do in certain situations like the one you covered in this video. In addition, I hope this video blows up as while the real world clips are gruesome to watch, it does show that even something like 9x19 doesn't just immediately stop a threat. That guy could have still killed the cop with the machete if the officer didn't have good foot work even after taking a few shots to the chest. There's also factors such as drugs and low level body armor that can increase resilience.

Being a 35 years plus street cop in Los angels and seeing and doing it I can tell you at some point you have to turn and put hits on target. The problem with this training is the fight or flight dump that you get in real life. You put some hits on the bad guy but you will miss and those rounds will go somewhere not to mention the cross fire issue if you and your partners are in the way.

@@tatumergo3931 lol always thought that's a weird name for it but yes. it's also kind of epic. if you circle walk aided by your arm, the angle by which you raise your arm can make counter weight, add angular momentum and serve as a lever. this way you can pretty much run in a spiral and change direction easy
