We can encounter that here , large project pushes old constructs away. The Stairway would never make code here. The newer house was a "Yuppie palace" PVC columns and an echo worse than the Augean stables. You are right, older homes = more character. Minus 36 degrees here with the wind chill today. Keep Cool. Cheers

Interesting twist. The first house was a bit strange. It's like the spiral staircase was put in later maybe. The second house was way too new for my liking. It was still nice to see. It was a treat to see two places. Glad you're on Facebook now too. Always good to see and hear you my friend.

OMG that first house is so 70s, it had so many features exactly the same as the house my dad built in 77/78 that I grew up in. The upstairs bathroom, the shower screen, tap fittings were exactly the same as mum and dads ensuite, the floor tiles same as bathroom, the stained wood architraves and window sills exactly the same and the front door is exactly the same with the engraved wood, and the door handle that you opened to go out to the back shed was on most of our internal doors. So many memories of my old house which they sold in 2003 to developers. Oh and the floorboards were the same, they were wider and probably a good solid wood, unlike todays flooring, they would have had carpet on them when first built and not polished, just stained. The spiral staircase, they are quite common in old stable lofts that were used for hay storage, or Stablehand accommodation, not big enough to take furniture up though, they are narrow, quite steep and not usually put in houses and they are usually a bit higher than a house staircase. I still cant believe seeing all that stuff that was exactly the same!!

First house was awfully butchered up--whoever altered the floor plan was no expert. Modern house was very nice--open, airy, clean lines--except for those incongruous columns that interfered with the style. I don't feel very much though when new homes are demolished because after all, they can be replaced pretty easily. Not so the vintage homes with lovely moldings, windows, and other date,d but high-quality, features.

1st house: Second story was added after original home was built which would explain the oddly placed spiral staircase. The cantilevered 'smoking' balconies would have also been added at that time. I find the 'pocket' glass shower door in the upstairs ensuite bath interesting as well. The second house is something quite special, really. Seems such a waste to demolish it!

The first home has a layout unlike no other. The only thing I don't like is the spiral staircase. I've never understood the appeal of them. Seems like it was built in the 1950's, 60's. Or maybe earlier like the 20's, 30's, or 40's. The second one was probably built in the 80's or 90's. Most condo's I've seen in where I live in the U.S. were mostly built in the 90's, 80's & 2000's. Perhaps this one was built in the 2000's...? Who knows?

The first house I wonder if the upstairs was an add-on ? That's why the stairs are in a strange place. Someone I know had a extension to an upper floor and had a small spiral staircase because it took up less space. The second house had an unusually large landing at the top of the stairs. I'm with you, I prefer older properties but the second house was nice. I love Australian houses. In Europe, countries like Belgium and the Netherlands, move furniture into upstairs windows or balconies by hoisting the pieces up by machine and man. It’s not unusual and they have movers especially trained in the art and science of moving furniture into the sky. 😊

I loved the external railing on the first house. I find it unusual that the shower glass screen and maybe the upstairs glass balustrade was taken from the second house. There is so many great things to be salvaged from the second house. I wonder if they received a greater amound of money from the government since the development was reasonably new as no one would build upon finding out about the new road?

I thought at first that I might have seen the first house previously, but was quickly aware that I hadn't. All the bedrooms there were rather small to me. It was a little odd, that one. I agree that the spiral stairs were probably an afterthought. I would reckon that regular stairs were there to begin with. The back house would have probably been built as a "mother-in-law's house", but obviously had become the party room. Ha.
