No obnoxious background music, no Go-Pro jumping around with flashes of useless material and no waste of recording. Just a great video with a wonderful old truck and desire to make it work. Simple. Looking forward to previous and new uploads!! Fix the Dodge and have two trucks, one with a Hemi.

Kevin, I know that sometimes it's a bother to always be asked about this vehicle, but that's definitely not without reason. This series showed that anyone, with a little bit of knowhow and a little determination can attempt a revival and bring a vehicle back to its glory. I found this video in 2018, and at the time, I knew nothing about cars. I had bought my first one about a week before I came across this video, actually. This led me down quite the rabbit hole, and after three years of watching this awesome content from you and others, I had the courage to attempt one myself. Mine was on a vehicle quite a bit newer, my father's old , derelict 2000 F150 that sat for the better part of five years, but without you and the way you break down concepts and make them easier to understand, it would still just be a big pile of scrap sitting in the same spot. Thank you so much, Kevin.
@davidpayneii2892 ай бұрын
I should mention, since this comment, I did a much more ambitious revival on an '86 Cavalier, including an engine swap from another Cavalier. It was quite the endeavor, and one that would not have happened, had I not stumbled across this video series.

I love old Ford trucks (standard cab only) from the Model T all the way up until they started putting computers and EFI on them. I'm a carburetor guy through and through. I would have done things in a different way. I am not only an auto mechanic with 36 years experience, a drag racer, engine builder, and vintage vehicle fanatic, but a perfectionist as well. I would never tried to turn that engine over until after removing the plugs and putting oil in the cylinders, and I would not have removed the plugs without doing some serious cleaning around them to avoid getting dirt in the cylinders. I would have also changed to oil and filter to help avoid damage to the bearings. I would have removed and cleaned the carburetor really good, and disconnected the fuel line from it, and connected a line directly from a clean container of gas directly to the carb. I would also have replaced the plugs, plug wires, coil, points and condenser, cap and rotor. None of that stuff is expensive. If it doesn't work, at worst you lost a few minutes and a few dollars. If it does work, you may have saved an engine that might run for a long time.

Had a great memory at 20:09. Me and my brother-in-law were moving an old Dodge motor home (mid 70’s model) with the 440. We drained the gas tank and added some 110 octane (at $10.00 a gallon). The motor sits inside the cab so we had the cover off while trying to start it. Then it backfired through the carburetor. Couldn’t hear much right afterward, almost lost some eyebrows, but it gives me a good chuckle now. The funniest thing was driving behind him on the way home. He could floor it, quickly let off the throttle and it would shoot this purple fireball out the rear driver side. We were on the phone with each other but we couldn’t hear one another because we left the motor cover off and it was LOUD. I was trying to tell him not to let off the gas abruptly but he couldn’t hear me. The he figured out how to make it backfire and he started doing it to a few cars that passed us. Oh gosh ... the look on their faces!!! That was about three years ago. Wish I could turn back some time and revisit that day. Funny and sobering the memories that return from seeing a simple backfire. 😥

Thanks for this. You get a like from me. Expecting you’ll get back, or are back, from overseas OK. My Dad was overseas, underseas, and other places not able to be with me for most of my life. Almost thirty and about to let go of life when he came along, wrapped me in a comforter, put me in the back of the pickup and brought me to be with him in the country. We would go camping with our Chevy 10(?) cargo type van, and after Dad had oriented me to a beach he knew as Marine he fixed the van up so I could live there, Ocean Beach, while studying in San Diego. After I got back home we parked the van at a friend’s gas station garage in town, Elgin (Texas), where the friend was supposed to fix it up a bit, but just let it sit there instead. After a while we got it towed home and it’s been here in the country outside for about twenty years. Dad’s life was cut short year before last, been out here in the country with some of what the PTSD counselor wannabes said was PTSD. It was traumatic but didn’t feel right claiming something like that when my Dad had been Marine Embassy Guard and P.O.W. and more. Did I not have enough courage? I was supposed to guard him too, he said I was his “brain” when he was in a situation. We’re a team. But anyway, our optometrist that I had managed to get to said the double vision problem was from the trauma. So driving not so easy, and I’m in the country so nowadays nobody seems to get it that that’s different from just going places any time you need to, there’s no subways or buses or trains or whatever, not sidewalks to walk a block or so to some grocery store. Besides, I’m still a little shaky sometimes. It will be better when we can enjoy the van, I just imagine it will happen. The van will be happy. You can enjoy getting vehicles running. Your video is good, will help people to know about what is great, and fun, about not living for money or to be robbed by bankers to have a vehicle or home. There’s stuff that Dad did that made our world better, with Love not fear. Your video kind of means to me that our life together continues.

karl schweizer we got a “new” car which has a Broken tranny and have no money to fix it it had been sitting for 10 years and my moms car Is broken and has a (I forget the right name) broken belt, which is $200-300 dollars and so we are fitting 8 people in my sisters (unreliable because it can’t get up the tiny bump in the road behind of our house) 4 door 4 seats Nissan Maxima 2001 (I think that was the year) so my mom don’t have a car, and my dads truck is out for the count lol

After a certain age *I believe it's 15-20 years* you don't need the title and can file for a copy of it at the DMV, anyone can even without a bill of sale, so long as the car is past that certain age. The only time it may be a problem is if someone comes forward proving their the owner *This is why the DMV makes you get a surety bond for 1 and a half times the value of the vehicle before giving you a copy of the title, so they can offer that to the person who claims to own it, instead of being sued for falsely giving the title* Honestly though looking at that truck it's obviously abandoned lol, i don't think anyone would be coming forward to claim it.

joshua treefelner try the brain box on the driver's side next to the washer bottle. They go out fairly regularly. Mine was going out when I bought it. It would shut down when hot, then eventually not start at all.

Before that, try moving the plug wires over one place either way. Sometimes the distributor gear doesn't line up quite right. That will tell which way the gear is off. The rotor will need moved the opposite direction until it matches right. My dad had this happen on an old mustang, and myself on a couple of cars.

I revive one or two old cars and trucks a month a fried of mine flips them. I always jump the coil and solenoid also but my other trick is I have a boat gas tank and a electric fuel pump on it. I disconnect the fuel line from carb and hook to the boat tank so I have good clean fuel. Also i unhook the fuel line as soon as I see it will turn over as if there is any old fuel in the tank I don't pump into the carb. the cool thing is after you get it to run you can hook a hose to the out on fuel pump and pump the tank out with its own fuel pump. After I empty what is in the tank I add a few gallons good gas and then pump into a can letting it strain through some old rags to catch settlement then pour that back in and do as many times it takes to get clean fuel. We clean them up using a sos pad to remove the surface rust off the body then buff the patina and flip for a huge profit on EBAY. I think you are going have have a good looking truck I love the patina.
