You can see interviews with them in Sarah and Ken Burns 2012 Documentary. I believe they cared a lot about those kids. One in particular still get emotional when he talks about how different their demeanor was compared to how they were portrayed by the media. The one boy thanked him and said “you did everything you could”. It’s heartbreaking

@michaelm4021

I just finished watching the Ken Burns documentary titled, "The Central Park Five", and those young men all came from good families, and seemed to be relatively good kids (your typical teenagers). Sadly, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, hanging-out with that large group of young men who were "wilding" in the park the night the jogger was attacked. It seems as though "The Central Park Five" were simply among the first 5 to 7 kids from that group that the police were able to apprehend that night, and into the following day. These kids came from lower-middle class families, some living in the projects, and had no legal counsel. In fact, the kids and their families were willing to fully cooperate with the police, which proved to be a fatal mistake. The one exception, Salaam, whose mother was more educated and sophisticated compared to the other parents/guardians, and she prevented him from giving a statement to police (a wise move). The fact that these young men, all juveniles at the time, were interrogated on camera by police and prosecutors - without legal counsel - is especially troubling. The Korey Wise interview is especially difficult to watch, as he clearly struggles to tell police and prosecutors the story they want to hear. Absolutely diabolical! There were no eyewitnesses that place these five directly at the scene of the attack. No DNA evidence or matches between the "Central Park Five" and the victim. Basically, all the prosecution offered were 'confessions' that were masterfully contrived by a police force that was notoriously corrupt during the 70's and 80's. Added to this troublesome mix, the fact that a serial rapist (Matias Reyes) was brutally attacking women in this very same area of the city during the exact time-frame the jogger was attacked. This is an absolutely disgraceful, shameful miscarriage of justice.

Linda Fairstein should have replaced those boys, in prison. She willfully and knowingly put innocent boys, children, in prison for a crime they didn't commit and left the real perpetrator out on the streets to commit more violent crimes, falsely giving citizens the belief they were then safe when they were not, every police officer who coerced a false confession from those children should also have replaced them in prison.

I think how much it must be to not only feed these people every day but to get rid of the waste and garbage they produce. I recall as a kid sitting his exams in the UK the odd news reports that kept on appearing reference this case, i use the word odd yet it could have bi meaning because the reporting over in the U.K. was in line with like ... " Look at these kids who are so obviously been fitted up for something that the facts show they didnt do " It was never a surprise to me these lads were not guilty, i just sadly forgot about them and lived my life. But i was 16 at that time , now 46 it makes me shiver to think all that life i had and all that they had stolen. I know an innocent lady also carries a life sentence.

watching the Ken Burns documentary. Even under duress..it still boggles my mind or makes me wonder what kind of pressure they were under by police, or fear, or what they were actually thinking to continue to weave the confessions once they knew what was as stake. Fear of retribution to call out that the police has pressured/coerced them? I know false confessions are pretty common, it begs us to study where the links are in the chain to help avoid these scenarios as much as possible.

Crack cocaine smells disgusting. I saw users back in the 90's rave scene. It smells like burning soap or something chemical. I saw people who smoked pot in pipes, pipe crack and completely change. They looked mesmerised and hooked. Stole, went mad. I could never understand why anyone would do that. Lost souls.

I am watching the entire episode on an app. This clip does not show the words I am commenting on. Notice how the police and the former police chief declares “none of his officers” would tell the kids or their parents that they would go home. So, is he seriously trying to tell us that EVERY INTERVIEWED PERSON who were in each of the interrogation rooms are liars???

I'm a former deputy sheriff, and the issue that I have is that in a crowd of 30 kids who bail when "The Man" shows up, five are caught. Miraculously, all five little rapists are caught. What are the chances? Not very good. Then, and even more importantly, their DNA is tested against the DNA recovered from the victim. NO MATCH x5. At that point, they should have been cut loose, and a press conference held. The results should have been made public. Today, no one is charged until the results are in. It's the decider. To continue was prosecutorial misconduct.
@thefungusshow2535
@thefungusshow2535 11 ай бұрын
They didn't catch "the five" right away. They interviewed 37 people and those 5 names kept being mentioned as the perpetrators. (there were also a couple others, but they were charged separately) Read the Armstrong report. These guys are not angels. That is why they were never exonerated, contrary to what you have been told. DNA proved Reyes was there. It did nothing to prove the others were not there. Wise knew of the walkman that was stolen from the rape victim. There is no way he could have known this if he wasn't there. They knew things that could only be known by someone who was there.

You sure you're a sheriff ? Because what was shown in the NetFlix documentary is NOT what happened that night, genius. Do you think that an AVENGERS movie is real, too ? The NetFlix piece on the CP5 is fiction. It's make-believe. They WERE guilty. Deal with it, clown. P.S. Jussie Smollett wasn't attacked with bleach at 2 AM. Tawana Brawley wasn't raped by 6 white men. Michael Brown wasn't putting his hands up saying "Don't Shoot." Trayvon Martin was home when he decided to look for trouble. Notice a pattern, Jackson ?

So you going jogging in one of the most dangerous cities in the country at night alone with head phones in your ear. Sounds like a dare to me. Truthfully I have very little sympathy for this lady especially after just watching the Netflix series. She still has yet to apologize for what happen to those kids. It’s not completely her fault but at the same time she should have been using her head.
@universalsoldier2293
@universalsoldier2293 5 жыл бұрын
She has nothing to apologize for; she had nothing to do with their conviction. But let me ask...you're very ready to blame the victim, so how about you blame the group of young men who shouldn't have been in the park either. Had they not been in the park that night, they never would have been arrested, so they are to blame for their own conviction. The park was dangerous, after all. They (or their parents, really) should have been using their heads.
@Newmanbadazz

Universal Soldier I don’t blame teenagers for playing in the park after dark because that’s what teenagers do. After the conviction she became friends with the prosecutor and detectives on the case. Some part of her actually believes that those boys are responsible for what happen and for that she owes them an apology.

What happened to those children is an atrocity of the highest magnitude and the gross criminal injustice they faced at the hands of NYPD and the NYCDA is damnable. Their abuse at the hands of adults has completely overshadowed the abuse the rape victim encountered that night. All of this falls on the racist devils within the NYC justice system from top down!!!
