Aborted Landing Touch and Go seen from inside a British Airways BA Boeing 747 @ LHR London Heathrow Airport on a very cloudy day.

Great Video 👍 Thank You. In my experience, watching planes take off at YYZ, I find the largest windblow back (not sure about the term) is from 777, and not 747. That's two engines vs four. Just my experience.

They floated from a tailwind, you can see they actually missed the touch point. I'm assuming given how drenched the runway was and how much runway you need to slow down a 747, they executed a go-around because braking action was probably very poor and didn't want to risk running out of runway.

He still landed in the Touchdown Zone, not far from the big White blocks. After the ideal Touchdown point you see on longer runways first 2-stripes right and left on the RNW and further only 1-stripe. After the last you exit the Touchdown zone. So a plane can absolutely land a little bit off the ideal point. But maybe due too poor wheater and what you said possible tailwind component, it can be dangerous if this come and goes and let the plane float or slam it into the RNW. So that can be the reason. However, he had a pretty long Displayed runway were you not allowed to land, you may start on it not land. If he needed a long RNW he already could be slightly lower on the Glide-slope because he had already runway underneath it instead of houses before the treshold and could already initiate a flare and land just before or spot-on. But he did a go around. Nice to see instant power!

@dublinairportplanes Yea, he was clear in the TouchDown-Zone just after the white blocks and also landed on the main gears. So don't know why already landed he needed to perform a Go-Around. I myself experienced a KLM 747-4 Super late Go-Around. Very sadly I didn't film it, it was so close and nice and one raw diamond you could find. But I made photo's and it was a clear day so I didn't expect a super late go-around just about 100-200 meters before my eyes. I know for sure if I had captured especially a 747 TOGA Go-Around just above the RNW everyone would loved it!

You’ll actually find that most modern day airliners can achieve a similar result, of course slightly quicker with the 747’s four Roll’s Royce engines

WHy? The descent was stable. There appeared to be little or possibly no turbulence. TOuchdown was very close to the beginning of the runway. What went wrong?

normally the reason for “go arounds” are because of a dangerous tail wind that could push the plane of the runway or sometimes it can even be because the plane is not aligned on the runway properly or even because the plane landed to late so didn’t have enough room to stop, there a many factors that can make planes have “go arounds”

No. The pilot did not provide an explanation. I presumed it was because the touch down was beyond the aiming point. Just my humble opinion. Incidentally this was a very cloudy day. We waited for some time to have permission to land, and when we came out of the clouds the plane very near to the ground. The second attempt happened shortly after without incident.

@@frankkosta7791 The touchdown was comfortably within the touchdown zone and it is a very long runway so I would be surprised if that were the reason.

You can see in the video, it was a late touchdown due to a “float” and a too high speed as the plane is able to climb immediately, meaning the speed was around 160knots, usually 747s should land at around 130-140knots
