The 2022 Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 15-30 January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen heads the field, which includes stars such as 2020 Champion Fabiano Caruana and Anish Giri.
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. If there is a tie for first place the top two after tiebreaks then play a 2-game blitz (5+3) playoff and, if still tied, an Armageddon game. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. If magnus had lost this game he would have lost a ridiculous 8 points, that's why it's so hard for him to get 2900 So far in this tournament he has 3 wins 4 draws 0 loses and playing at a TPR of 2872 and he's only +1.1, if he'd drawn this game he would have been something like -3.5

@@quivalla ...with all wins? LOL that's not going to happen at the highest level. I don't know if he will ever break the 2900 barrier, I think he's more likely to not succeed there, but even if he does, it's going to take him at least 2 or 3 years to do so. Because the draw is still the most likely result and each time he draws, he loses points. And the closest he comes to 2900, the more points he's gonna lose by drawing or losing a game. That's why, if I had to bet, I think he's gonna go very close to but never reach 2900. Something like 2892 would already be extraordinary.

@@frednimzowi9852 So Magnus says that he's not going to defend his title unless it would be exciting like playing against Alireza. I suppose he doesn't want the burden of world title prep. He does want to do something fantastic. He would know that to get to 2900, he'd have to double his win rate or something impossible like that.

There is also always the element of psychology when going up against someone like Carlsen. I have seen Pragg play blitz tournaments and make incredible calculations with seconds on the clock. I don't think he missed as many lines as the computer says, but the best engine moves mostly led to extremely complicated positions that no one in their right mind would willingly go into against Carlsen with a minute on the clock. He tried playing safe defensively, and it backfired on him. But a good effort throughout nonetheless.

@@kshitijsharma1132 Pretty sure Stockfish 14 is like 3750 or something. But engine Elo is different than Human Elo anyways. You cant really compare Engines to Humans because they compete in different tournaments. Engine Elo is measured based on how they compete against other Engines. Its impossible to say exactly what Elo an engine would be against human players. My guess is probably in the 3200-3600 range but who knows.

@@black_eagle That's not the case at all and it doesn't matter if Dubov was healthy, symptomatic, asymptomatic or not. The very least he could've done is put a mask on to protect his opponent or other people in the room who may have underlying health conditions or are within an age range where they would seriously suffer from Covid. Dubov thought he was above the rules - which he is not. It's people like you who have this selfish mindset that deserve Covid. Use your head and think about other people around you for once in your life because your comment is uneducated and quite frankly it's the soft, selfish, and egotistical people who are the ones not wearing masks.

@@black_eagle Masks aren't to protect to wearer; they're to reduce the risk of the wearer spreading COVID by breathing little droplets of virus-riddled spittle all over other people. Even people who have been vaccinated can still carry the virus asymptomatically, so masks help reduce the risk of inadvertently infecting others.

How so? Because, you're following rules people admitted to making up on the spot? If you're going to be an insane ideologue then why not criticize the tournaments for not forcing masks on anyone, anyway? What are tests good for if they are not respected? I am just baffled by what you might consider logic. If he doesn't want to play with a mask on, then he doesn't want to play with a mask on. That is his choice and he had to forfeit because of it. Stop attacking people for simply having a different point of view than yourself. Inquisitions, witch hunts, and mob lynchings were all tools of people who couldn't be accepting.

Good for Dubov. It’s common knowledge that masks aren’t any more effective than the vaccine. I know quite a few people that tested positive for omicron lately… and all were vaxxed and some were boosted. All told me they wore masks in public and still got it. Think back to when mask mandates first came about back in early/mid 2020… how many tested positive after that? Were they all not wearing masks? Or are masks just not effective? Good for you Dubov. 👍

@@TRC_WA the purpose of masks is not to prevent infection of the one who wears it but to prevent contagioning of others. And in both of these goals masks and vaccines are highly effective. Stop spreading false information.
