After witnessing this metronome battle, I can only conclude that Zygarde 50% has gained the favor of Lord Helix. Uproar being used to wake up its partner, and gravity nullifying it's opponent's Sky Drop on the same side in a metronome battle simply do not happen without divine intervention.

Aura Break is a highly situational ability, as Xerneas or Yveltal has to be on the field in order for it to work. This is why you go with Power Construct instead, so Zygarde can transform into its Complete Form(e). I wish Aura Break affected more Pokemon than just Xerneas and Yveltal so it could be more useful, but as it is, it's just a lame ability that only affects these two specific Pokemon.

I don't care if it's a cop-out, Complete Zygarde is my favorite because it's the best to use. But I agree with you that of the "base" two, 50% Zygarde is the better form, and I also wish they had done more with Zygarde in Kalos instead of shoehorning it into Alola when it did nothing to enhance the story. I use Zygarde to represent Xigbar on one of my Organization XIII teams, because Thousand Arrows is the closest thing to Xigbar's railgun.
