Hi Sandesh ! Mucoid degenerative ACL usually requires surgical intervention for treatment. The surgery entails debulking/decompressing the ACL ligament. Most patients who have residual intraop laxity need an ACL reconstruction also. In case your doctor feels that post decompression of Mucoid ACL there is no residual laxity, they leave the natural ACL remanent in place. All cases post surgery will require rehabilitation to reach the pre surgery activity levels. The rehabilitation might differ with type of surgery performed.

Screws and Buttons are normally used implants in an ACL surgery. The pain post surgery should be allowing you to walk with full weight bearing from day 1. In case there is out of proportion pain in the knee with usual activities of daily living, it needs to be reviewed by your orthopaedic surgeon. In case you wish to take an opinion , it has to be in physical appointment only.
