I have so much resentment over that. I should have been given s chance especially since it was two alcohol related incidents back to back because of the awesome ptsd treatment i got in the 101st. @@swirlingabyss I'm sorry to hear he's not around anymore. I would've loved to have bought him a beer. My drill sergeant with the gas canisters was kicked out around 5-6 weeks in for recruit abuse. Flash bangs are crazy but the one I was subjected to was around 10 yard out so it was more of a startle followed by several blinding flashes which kills your night vision opposed to a concussion. The Ds gassed us for the hell of it. But I remember white light was brought up the next morning lol. I did ait in summer 2004 so they were trying to make everything "realistic" because some of us got deployed straight out of ait so we had to learn room clearing and ruck formation and 9- line and all (I was 92y but I got put on dart) I didn't deploy till the fall of 2005 thank God but half of my ait went straight to iraq

In a different platoon than mine some kid did the old "Take an OD of aspirin and run around and tell everyone" what they did, to try to quit Basic and AIT. The next morning the Drills had a formation. It wasn't the modern touchy feely stuff. The formation they held was to give instruction for proper suicide techniques, such as slicing *along* the radial artery as opposed to across to cause more damage and insure death. Also they did recommend that when you take an overdose that it works better if you don't tell anyone what you've done. To be honest thinking back on it that was some goddamn funny shit. What a different time to be in the military. *:-)*

I’m not caught up on what changes have happened to basic training since I was there in 2010, but I’m guessing those were inflated/exaggerated numbers for satire purposes. We got anywhere between 2-8ish minutes for chow, depending on how pissed the DS’s were about recent behavior, and there was a newish rule that we couldn’t be smoked for 30 minutes following chow. They would actually yell at privates if they grabbed a comically small portion of food. The idea was that too many soldiers pass out or have other medical issues if they don’t have proper nutrition. The 9 hours of sleep thing is what convinced me they’re joking.
