Ironically, revealing the trick made everyone respect him even more. It takes mad skills and years of dedicated practice in order for anyone to do this.
@Michael755793 ай бұрын
For another example: I know exactly how Kostya Kimlat did the trick that fooled Penn and Teller on his first appearance on their show, but that doesn't mean I could do it. If I try the main move he used it requires a lot of concentration and it's slow enough that it's obvious what I'm doing; to be able to do it at speed a few feet away from P&T while chattering away to them requires huge amount of practice, and I'm extremely doubtful I could ever get my fingers to move that quickly and smoothly anyway.
@misterawesome74312 ай бұрын
Also can you imagine trying to create this trick? There are so many steps that have to be done perfectly, just creating the idea, then having to practice and gain the skill level needed.

@sanjinmujkic71714 ай бұрын
yeah. I mean anyone who understand anything about slight of hands know that this must have had a way behind it, and most of those I knew anyway, but one thing is to know how it's done, and completely another to practice this and perform this so fluently and with ease and charm...that knowing changes nothing. Shin Lim is freakin awesome. I respect his act for the performance alone, let alone thinking that made this possible. It's "his" original act and it's absolutely wonderful watching him.

One of the main reasons I don't mind magic reveals. We ALL already know magic isn't real. So that isn't being spoiled. I think it's great we can all see how talented great magicians really are - they work hard and I think they deserve to have people know how much work goes into these illusions. We all get to be mystified when we first watch the trick, we got to be an audience member for the magical story and experience the magician wanted to present, that can never be taken away from any of us, that first moments of shock and awe. Seeing how it was done doesn't ruin that, I think it enhances the wow factor.
@cheesesteakphilly3 ай бұрын
It’s sleight* of hand.
@sanjinmujkic71713 ай бұрын
@@MagnumDB magic is real. The problem is it's misunderstood. Magic is not waving a wand around creating fireworks, it's an "act that to observer seem unrealistic and unexplainable so they start asking themselves ade they sane while being amazed. That's magic. This not only have to be a card trick or sleight od hand. To me magic is watchifng a bulgarian gipsy play trumpet or violin or watching turks make bourek. When i see it, i know that it's not some devil business, but my jaw still drops all the way down and i can't even begin to grasp, to try to explain "how". 😉

I remember when Shin appeared on Penn & Teller Fool Us and did the same set or one that is very similar (first appearance). Penn then said that they were beat by the sheer volume of tricks that Shin was dishing out. He was so fast and flawless that they just couldn't keep up. This explanation video is spot on, and it makes me respect card magic a lot more than before.

That was Ryan Hayashi. Lim, he said was still perfect, even though they caught what he was doing. Which is what I thought when I saw him. I caught a bunch of stuff but, the thrill of magic is doing stuff you have zero chance of getting away with... and getting away with it.

How observant. What an explanation. Your channel is a treat for me. I don't call them magicians, I call them tricksters. None of these amazing performers claim that they know some secret "mantra", they are performers to fool the audience. Go watch the "Fool Us" shows. And, they are so good, months and years to finalize the concept(s), months and years of practice...unbelievable. Hats off to them. And to you, keep up the good work, our support will be with you.

They are amazing artistes
@roriklucsson82754 ай бұрын
To then deconstruct this amazing art to just a "trickster" is, in my opinion, devaluing the performance they give. It's not just their sleight of hand, it's the entire presentation and execution. The way they're fooling you while you know you're being fooled and you loving it, that's the magician at work.

Great explanation. However, around 9:48, you said that Shin switched the queen card with a blank card before giving it. That means, the queen card is in left hand of Shin along with the deck. So, when Shin picked up the blank card on the table around 10:03, how on earth the queen card appears then? His hand is clearly empty when he picked that blank card. Also for that last trick, then the judge should have notice when she place her hand that the plastic card is already hard and has been switched? same with when Shin dropped the cards at the back of the table, she should have hear that as well around 15:55. Other than those, great explanation.

13:00 - "a very thin magnet". So.... ALL of those Q of spades had thin magnets in them? None of those cards stuck to each other or pushed each other away? (Even if you arrange them one-face-up-one-faced-down over and over etc.)..... So... the envelope is powerful JUST enough to pick up only *one* card? It's still a bit susssss to me.. but then, I'm not a magician on any level. Note: I'm commenting in real time, not skipping through the vid. Perhaps *all will be revealed?*
