May not have been intentional in the story, but a smart move to create some space in case they all started swinging at once.

As a bouncer for 20 years before I quit, Jake did this wrong. You definitely get them outside and try to talk them down, but no slapping. The moment the first guy swings, you put him down so hard and mercilessly that the others think he might be dead and choose to take their friend to the hospital. Otherwise, you will definitely lose the numbers game. Your fellow bouncers are your "brothers" and there to watch each others' backs. Never challenge that many guys by yourself without knowing your boys have your back if it goes sideways.

But it only works if they are not Turks or Arabs... They surround you and your colleagues immediately and if you so much as flinch, they come from all sides. These cowards have no honor and can't handle defeat.
