I loved seeing Weston! He is so blessed to have you as a mother. He must feel like he hit the jackpot! Thank you for your advice today. I have been listening and learning for over a year, but I have never commented. I am the mother of a young adult addict who is in recovery, and you have helped me more than you will ever know.

The “handsome” part is kind of weird, but I do agree, he deserves Kudos! 👍

Hi Amber, sorry I missed you during the livestream. As a matter of fact, I've had a very hangry man staying with me waiting for hospital treatment and as a result my attention span was compromised.. Listening to you is a great tonic to a stressful time.

The most devastating is for the parents who are being let down by condoning and pushing drug use in teenagers. Especially in Amsterdam. Plus the refusal to treat kids of 15 yrs old when they are not "motivated" which is the central charactheristic of addiction. We have to wait till they eventually get motivated when we are nearly dead or even don't live to see it.

Why do people say “day (10 or whichever) is the same as day(30) when it’s not. As the drug and alcohol work its way out my system and my brain fog clears and my body chemistry continues to readjust it brings so many different thoughts feelings and emotions leading to different opinions and choices. I understand trying to not trigger overwhelm but day 30 and day 90 feels completely different for me. I know it’s not impossible to be sober but I hate feeling lied to by people I don’t believe have or could walk a mile. (I appreciate your challenge tho and like to think watching has been helpful to my sobriety🤞🏾)

My son has been drinking heavily for the past few years. He hides it really well like nobody even knew he drank like that he was just taken to the hospital for having a Sies and they drained his stomach and. He came home from the hospital after they told him that he was dying from his liver failing and he still drinking. What can I do to make him realize that he’s dying and he needs to stop drinking he’s 28 years old. he has two kids that need their father. He’s such a great man, but he started drinking and it’s taken over everything even his health.

Amber, what are your thoughts on people with alcohol addiction consuming alcohol-free beer? My boyfriend says he just likes the taste of beer, but I feel it’s one more way to not deal with the alcohol problem..

I have mixed feelings about it. It can be a big trigger because it taste like, looks like, feels like beer. But other people say it helps. I usually just tell people to be aware that it could be more triggering than helpful.

Mine goes through at least a 12 pack per week of NA beer. I’ve wondered if this was triggering or not

My ABF says it's a great replacement and helps him stay away from the alcoholic beer at times. There's definitely two camps - a big community of sober people who drink NA beer and cocktails and those who avoid them. So just depends on the person, like Amber says.

Follow up ?????? Can you give an example of how to help someone become aware that they are still using old trauma coping mechanisms/attachment styles? I am using your idea of avoiding being the Bad Guy to create safety for him to share. That’s hard, but working👍 His view is… … every little thing that happens entitles him to go on a rant so ugly even the dogs & cat disappear. It is the whole world’s fault - not his. Mostly turns out that it’s MY fault becuz I won’t drop everything to fix things for him. He knows I have changed how I react to him and does not like it; it’s forcing him to change his normal tactics that no longer get a rise out of me. Hence, his newest derogatory name for me is now “Miss Therapy.” Yippee 🙄

It’s the same for us here in our family. My husbands son 36 years old but does not take accountability for any of the last seventeen years. It’s just these last three years I have had turned away. I can no longer drop everything in our life to fix his. I won’t. These years now are for us to live and enjoy. Being that he is not my son he puts all the blame on me. For changing his father. His father is no longer enabling his problems with fixing by giving money or what ever he wants and thinks he’s entitled for.
