A bit late (and I haven’t watched the later episodes yet), but what I would consider is opting for the larger towers (unlockable in com-tree), considering the topography of your city. In Norway we usually have larger towers situated further away from developed areas and have a "safety zone" of 250 m from high voltage lines, and 100 m from low voltage lines. This is due to the grounding cables from high/low voltage masts. Our typical configuration: one large tower, situated on hills/mountains, smaller masts situated in rural areas and closer to highly populated areas, and datacenters (irl rooftop sites/wall mounted antennas) in the heaviest populated areas. CS2 requires a road to these facilities, but is something that we don't usually require, at least here in Norway.@@CityPlannerPlays

I love the little ally you put behind the row houses next to the fire station! It would be great for the people that live there to have a more private place to park, it would also take their cars off the main road (in theory) so that the emergency service vehicles would be able to navigate easier.

Names: -Marion (town) -MLK Jr. (street) -greek letters (near university) Also an empty lot in the middle of town that nobody knows what to do with would add some realism (and drama) I feel. Nearby residents would probably want a park while a company would want to develop it

The common solution for high rent problems IRL is to get someone to move in with you to share the cost. I know a family that converted the cellar of their house into two apartments and had a trailer in their parking space that they also rented out. Also, you forgot to make the connection between the New fire station and the industrial area accessible in both directions. Any vehicles sent there now have a shortcut on their way back but has to go through all of town to get there.

Hey Phil, excellent additions to the County! Always enjoy your content. It’s probably been mentioned already but the highway connecting from the industrial park needs to be revisited. After you created the slip lane and also added dedicated turn lanes from the new highway to the existing one, I realized there’s no way to turn left from the old highway to the new one you added. Just a heads up.

Hey Phil, this was a great episode with the perfect mix of neighbourhood, infrastructure and city services development! I do have some suggestions though: At 17:00 you missed the movement that justified the highway in the first place - vehicles coming from the brand new fire station and Uptown can't turn left onto Laurel Highway/Middle Street to enter Copper Valley Industrial Park. Rather than fix it by adding a lane (upgrading the one-way-two-lane-segment to an asymmetrtic one), I would love to see a roundabout there. While at first glance the main movement should be on the highway connecting Uptown and the outside world, the connection to the industrial park immediately saw heavy traffic. A roundabout would make all movements much safer. If traffic volume becomes an issue, you could easily increase the roundabouts capacity by adding "turnlanes" to the roads connecting in. Furthermore, you can also add the bandwith upgrade to the radio masts. It doesn't affect their range, but within their reach, service quality (capacity) instantly increases. Finally, at that riverside rowhouse neighbourhood in Northfork you could try to pull the footpath's terrain height over to the houses. That way we can hopefully see more of the quay wall you worked so hard for :D

43:00 sometimes… it depends on the the communication bands that are being used. AM radio can be interfered by high voltage power, but usually only within ~100ft. Same goes with HF and some VHF radios. Cell signals are at frequency’s well past High voltage power and are Usually fine to be co located with it. If you look along some power lines, you’ll see cell towers installed inside or on top of the lines.

Hey Phil! I see you too are struggling with getting some commercial with actual good looks, after a lot of trial and error, here are a few I found (which might require a bit of wack-a-mole) Width x Depth 4x6 NA low commercial - Has a nice gas pump AND station combo but requires a lot of wack-a-mole as a few restaurant-looking ones are in the same footprint 5x5 NA low commercial - Has a REALLY NICE strip-mall looking building without any parking. They look great next to eachother for a shopping area surrounding a parking lot! 5x5 EU low commercial - Has a decently looking building for a road corner. 4x6 EU low commercial - Has a decent warehouse-ish building with loading docks on its side There are also a few wider but shallow buildings which are decent, like 6x3, 5x3, 6x4. Overall, I've found while I hate anything 4x4 or under, as soon as you hit 5 or 6 in a direction, they actually look much better and most of them don't have awkward parking on the asset! Hope this helps!

10:42 My city's fire station is over 100 years old and in the center of town, so I've never heard of a clinic being next to the fire station. In my experience, the clinic is near the hospital. In my city, the clinic and hospital were next to each other and eventually connected to each other to be able to transfer patients more easily. When the clinic was rebuilt on the edge of town for more room to expand, the hospital followed suit and built a new building connected to it. The ambulance service chose not to relocate its depot, so now it's situated on it's own next to a rehab clinic (the old clinic building) and a small grocery store (built after the old hospital was torn down).

I've had some success using high rent warnings as an indicator of where to increase density. I haven't been able to get rid of them in a city completely, but especially if an area has a lot of high-rent signs near each other I'll replace eg low density with row homes or other mid density and that usually fixes some of the problem. It also helps to add more low-rent housing!

They all started early enough that I was frequently at risk for falling asleep (and did on a couple of occasions). It didn't help that the job basically boiled down to standing still with the occasional adjustment from the director. The best part of the job was when local "weirdos" with good intentions and no fear of public speaking, presented their issues. They were passionate and definitely hard ignore. I sometimes agreed with their goals, but not always. Even if I did, the way they went about it was often not terribly effective. It was always entertaining, however and I respected their moxie. love them.

I've been loving this series, and I really adore the storytelling element to it !! it's very fun, and has also brought me some insight into the 'whys' behind a lot of civil planning and infrastructure things that I hadn't put much thought to before. thank you so much Phil !!

Phil, do you actually know how to relax? Hey, if you have a community over in a wooded valley ever in Magnolia County, could you name it Holly Dale? It's was my aunt's nickname for me growing up and she just recently passed away. Love your videos so much!

Great episode as always, Phil! I have a couple of suggestions: 1) the streets near the new fire station in Uptown seem quite dangerous with so many crossings. I would change that into a large roundabout that connect the 5 main roads, or alternatively change the streets that form the triangle plaza into one way streets. 2) it's a pity that the new plaza with playground in Northfork is not connected to the shore with a pedestrian path. Keep up the good work, can't wait for the next one!

Oh CPP, just when I thought you were going to leave the scars in the hillside…If you’d like some exposure therapy, I invite you to drive north/south along the eastern third of Kansas. 😂 But seriously, I never noticed all the blasting that had to be done to implement the highway system in my region until watching your channel. Now I’m amazed at the ingenuity and skill that it took to make the topography respect us! Thanks to you and your channel, I have a new respect for all sorts of everyday infrastructure. With all that said, I encourage you to try to leave the scars in the hillside next time so that the citizens of Magnolia County can see and appreciate all of the effort that went into conforming the countryside for their benefit.

Don't feel bad about going ham on the landscaping, its always one of my favorite parts of the videos. It helps make everything feel more real, and who wouldn't want to live in an area with lots of nature, even if its planned out nature.

For the great 3rd vs Short Debate of 2026/2027, I thought of the exact solution you wound up doing at the end of the video! It keeps the hilarity of Short being so long, while also getting rid of the issue of making a mega-street that acts as a collector despite its engineered capacity.

Hey Phil! First time commenter here. Love your content; I find your videos to be the best way to kick back and relax so thank you for that. I know you read the comments and take on viewer feedback so I wanted to suggest something: on the switchback mountain road it might be cool to add a lookoff area where people can stop and take in the sights. I'm thinking carpark, picnic area, campsite perhaps. Thoughts?

The middle st addition reminds me of the million dollar highway in CO. Steep grades, sharp curves and no guard rails. Me personally I wouldn’t take a truck down an almost 11% grade with that sharp turn at the bottom. The final suggestion would be to add the radio masts on the same parcel as you fire/police. Love the vids, keep up the good work

@ 43:06 - Hey there! I work as a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radio Frequency (RF) Engineering. About situating a radio mast near a transformer. In realistic terms, this isn't really a practical idea (as you have mentioned) due to the electromagnetic interference (EMI). Transformers emit strong electromagnetic fields, particularly at low frequencies. When a radio mast, which operates at much higher frequencies, is placed too close, it's exposed to these fields. This can disrupt its ability to transmit and receive signals effectively, which would lead to communication breakdowns. There's also a safety and regulatory angle to consider since the proximity to the transformer's electromagnetic field may violate regulatory standards set by bodies like the FCC as it can create a hazardous environment. In the power and communications industry, it's generally recommended to add ample physical separation between such structures to make sure that both operational efficiency and safety compliance is maxed out. It's always better to err on the side of caution in these situations. But overall loving this series, can't wait for the next episode!

Regarding the path below the new bridge at Anchor Street: As of now it only has a few connections to the surrounding streets. Because of this people might only be able to enter and exit the path at a few locations with quite a distance between them. I think it might make sense adding a few more connections to the surrounding streets, especially at the new bridge.

When you were building that road at 15:10, it usually is a good idea to convert that bit of a flat and wide spot into 3-4 lanes, so cars can overtake heavy vehicles, and can also be used for parking broken vehicles, otherwise that road could become an issue having those grades and no overtaking lanes or wide shoulders for vehicles to stop in case of emergency.

This is really random but I learned a Billy Joel thing this week, so here's my "engagement". At work they often play "classic oldies" for morale and I hear this synth line that I recognize as the melody from Ludacris's "Blueberry Yum Yum". I couldn't sleep till I figured out what song that was and it turns out it was Billy Joel's "Pressure". I've had it on repeat all weekend.

One detail item for the steep switch backs. On steep grades like that where I live in Western Canada there would typically be passing lanes in one or both directions to allow cars and lighter vehicles to pass slow moving semi’s.
