Toby had been fighting cancer for about three years, and it wasn't going to let him go. This was his last performance; he had a busy day and was almost too tired to walk onstage, but he did. And then he gave what must be one of the most honest and touching goodbyes to all of us who loved him. He knew he wasn't going to have another chance, and what a true artist to push himself to perform one last time. Toby Keith meant a lot to me for so many years. I own every cd he ever released, and I can sing you any one of the songs. Or all of them. He was the Big Dog Daddy, and I loved him. He had a strong faith and I hope he is in the heaven of his dreams. Good night, Toby, I hope to see you again in whatever the next life may be. Thank you for playing this for me Harri. Your reaction was tender and honest, and yes, that was his wife in the audience.

As a 76 year old woman, he saved his best song for the last of his many many songs.

Toby made this song after a conversation he had with clint eastwood toby and clint eastwood was on the golf course and toby asked clint eastwood man how do you do it, and clint eastwood replied I don't let tye old man in, so those words hit toby hard and he went home and started writing thus song, don't let the old man in, after he recorded it he sent a copy of the song to clint eastwood and clint loved it and asked if he could use this song in his movie called the mule...

😢😭💔 "“Don’t Let the Old Man In” was originally written by Keith for Clint Eastwood’s 2018 film The Mule, based on the true story" but yes in this performance I am sure he knew he was dying, He had stopped chemo also

Toby wrote that song long before he knew he had cancer. The song was inspired by Clint Eastwood. Toby ask Clint how he did it, he was just starting a new movie in his 80"s Clint responded... I get up in the morning and i don't let the old man in !!! Toby liked the line wrote a song Clint liked the song so much he put it in the movie he was making. The name of the movie is The Mule Toby was not going to sing that song that night he had another picked out . But Dick Clark's son insisted he change it to let the old man in which he did and brought down the house with his performance. Little did he know it would be his last TV performance. God Bless you Toby where ever you are. My world was a better place with you in it and will continue to be for the rest of my life.

I will admit that I’m not much of a country and Western fan, but he has such a brilliant voice, and if you listen to the lyrics, it’s just such a beautiful song. Once again, you’ve pulled a hat-trick Harri. Thank you for all you do in bringing a lot of happiness to others. Blessings to you all the way from Weymouth.

Toby Keith had so many great songs so whether you need to hear something heartfelt, patriotic, romantic, sad, melancholy, inspiring, thoughtful, or just plain funny, yeah especially funny, then Toby’s got what you need. My favorite songs by Toby Keith are Who’s That Man; Wish I Didn’t Know Now; You Shouldn’t Kiss Me Like That; He Ain’t Worth Missing; We Were In Love; Upstairs Downtown; Don't Let the Old Man In; How Do You Like Me Now; Made in America; I Wanna Talk About Me; American Soldier; Trailerhood; A Little Too Late; A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action; and of course Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue. RIP Toby, we miss you!

WendyJo - Welcome, belated as it may be. This submission by Toby Keith is one of the most sincere and touching performances I have ever seen. "Don't Let The Old Man In" has become the motto for my older brothers and me. I am the youngest at 71 now, and we have all been fortunate enough to be inspired by this, Toby Keith's final heartfelt song. We each end our birthday cards to each other by writing, "Don't Let The Old Man In". I read your comments, which were both touching and sincere. Wonderful submission and tribute to a great human being. Harri, your reaction comments from your heart as well. I can't thank both of you enough for this one and I do hope that many others to follow experience this, his final farewell message and love for his wife.

Toby wrote this in 2018 for Clint Eastwood on his 88th birthday. He asked Clint how he was going to celebrate his birthday and Clint said he was leaving the next day to make a movie....that movie was "The Mule". Toby ask Clint how he kept working at his age and Clint said..."I don't let the old man in." Toby wrote this song, sent it to Clint and Clint used it in the movie. Little did Toby know this would apply to his situation. He wrote this in 2018 and he was diagnosed in 2022, so, no, he had no idea what was going to happen. RIP Toby.

After this show Toby had set up 2 shows in Vegas for Dec 8-9 the shows sold out within mins so they pushed another one on him ,it was to much, Toby texted me and told me about the shows, I suggested he try 1 then see how he fills, he then told me the Drs gave him 2yrs with chemo, he told me that there was absolutely no possible way to cure his cancer he said the chemo killed all the good cells to,Toby did those Shows for TOBY,a couple day after the shows he text me I asked how he was feeling, he told me he was Bad he said he could not hardly swallow it hurt very bad . He said it hurt to sing because they had stitched his dyapharm.he said he signed up for hospice.

It’s so sad to see this performance and know it was his last. It’s so hard to let go of our heroes. I will grieve the senseless murder of John Lennon until the day I die. Thanks Harri and Wendy Jo 🌺✌️

Yes, Mr. Keith knew he was terminal, but aren't we all, terminal? None of us are getting out alive, better get right with our Savior, Jesus. He had asked Clint Eastwood how he keeps going and Mr. Eastwood said that he doesn't let the old man in, and Mr. Keith wrote that beautiful song. The song was used in the movie "The Mule".
