My husband told me to really dress up as he was going to surprise me. I decked out in a formal, had my hair done, the whole nine yds. Where did he take me? An outdoors Outlaw concert. I could have killed him. The bright spot was the barefoot guy next to me kept staring at me not sure what to do. He asked if I wanted a hit off his joint. God bless that guy. 😄

This was originally done by Vaughn Monroe in 1949. It's been covered by Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and Frankie Laine to name a few. The Outlaws put more of a rock spin on it, compared to the original country version. There is over 100 versions, in 11 languages. Love the guitars at the end, unbelievable. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Miss Blondie. Wow. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Saw them open at a Day on the Green July 2, 1977, in Oakland followed by Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton.. The Outlaws were called the 4 guitar army. They have a live album from 1977/1978 titled "Bring em back Alive" which was before they recorded "Ghost Riders" - some of their better songs "There Goes Another Love Song" , "Stick Around for Rock and Roll" and "Song in the Breeze"

I remember hearing an instrumental version of this on the radio in the car when I was really little, as we were driving home in the dark from Gram and Papa's house or somewhere. No words, but the melody was haunting. My mom told me the title and my imagination filled in the rest.

Hello Harri, yeah, these guys did a great version. The reason that you know this song is because you did a reaction a year ago to the late great Roy Clark’s version. I knew you had done a version, but I actually thought it was Johnny Cash‘s version, but when I looked it up, Roy Clark popped up.

Hughie Thomasson, Billy Jones, and Freddie Salem were the 3 lead guitarists with Hughie playing most of the hot leads. One of the most under-rate rock guitarists of all time, he also spent 10 years with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Those fast pickin' fingers earned Hughie the nickname The Flame.

The melody is based on one that has been used many times. A few examples being "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye/Ya," "Johnny Fill Up Your Bowl," "For Bales," and any number of which may be a parody of another, I forget. The first two listed are the most known.

Henry Paul left after the Hurry Sundown album, Freddie Salem replaced him, their sound started getting heavier. This was their last album to get a hit single off. IMO Outlaws were best with their more country sounding first 4 albums. Around 1983 me and a couple friends met them at their bus after a show at a small club, we shot the bull and Henry, who returned after he put out 4 Henry Paul Band albums, brought a bottle of wine from the bus and passes it around. Cool bunch of guys.
