I have a 12 & 14yo so we are considering adopting a teen. We’ve already been through the middle school dynamics once and feel comfortable with older children. I feel like building a connection with an older child is different from younger kids because trust/love is built over time and with older kids there’s often a feeling of wanting to rush the process because they are older

I'm not looking into adoption as I am still very young myself, but I'm considering it as an option for the future. If I have trauma myself do you believe it would be better to have an older child (relatability, being understanding) or not (patience not being as volatile)?

I have experienced trauma from childhood too. I think it's more important to work through your issues. It would also be good to lnow what your own triggers are. If you manage to do this, then I'm not sure it would matter too much what the age was. Hope that helps 🙏 🙂
