My wife use to make a replica of the Biltmore House in Asheville NC for the owners as a part of their Christmas Tour. The biggest problem we had maintenance wise was the windows falling off because the would dry out and fall off. Our solution (well mine actually) was one I remembered when I was a kid making model airplanes. One piece would have a small hole that the other piece with fit up with that had a nipple that fit into the hole. What she did was drill a hole through the gingerbread wall, which she would fill with the Stiff Royal Icing Recipe she made the windows from making sure to flatten the the excess on the interior wall which would then not come off regardless of the expansion and contraction of the windows.

I have been looking for a really sturdy gingerbread recipe, and yours delivered! This was the first year I made a gingerbread house and i made my great grandmothers old victorian house. The gingerbread house ended up being 3 feet tall and about 2 feet on all sides. It held detail really well and was very solid and sturdy. Thank you for such a great recipe!

Awesome tutorial! Family Gingerbread house memory:The first gingerbread house my mom made looked amazing! But unfortunately, she left it out Christmas eve and our two French poodles jumped up on the couch to get access to it. Pepe and Pierre 🙄licked all the smarties off of the roof and ate all the candy canes but left the gingerbread behind. My mom was so mad because she hadn’t taken a picture of her masterpiece yet 🤣🤣🤣We woke up to dog barf on the carpet. What a Christmas! Thanks for bringing back that memory with this gingerbread house. Always great videos, you are my go to for no fail recipes! Happy Holidays!

Pretzel logs for the base of the house Printed company logo on a frosting sheet (edible paper) for a front window However we didnt have food grade ink A water well of gingerbread and marshmellows Icing sugar and powered sugar And a Blue jawbreaker for water Next year we are going all in flickering lights a hockey rink in back Santa on the roof

When you said "not good for eating" what exactly did you mean?
@o0Avalon0o3 жыл бұрын
Like she said, this video is focused on advanced houses that are decorative, as in only for decoration & because of that, they can last the whole month or be used as a base for competitive gingerbread decoration.
@tselampe3 жыл бұрын
@@o0Avalon0o Makes no sense. Any gingerbread lasts for a month and more. And any decent edible recipe can be made decorative.
@o0Avalon0o3 жыл бұрын
@@tselampe Since you seem confused, I'll explain another way. This recipe is not made to be eaten & does not focus on flavor, there's plenty of others that are. The more decorations, the tougher the cookie needs to be to hold everything. It may be made from edible ingredients but it could be difficult to digest, lack in flavor & be hard like a rock. Personally, I prefer to eat a softer gingerbread recipe like the one used by Rosanna Pansino & decorate with harder recipes. The decorative-focused recipes can easily last 6 months but most people will just dispose of them at the end of the season anyway; as for this recipe, I was deferring to the original authors reference of 1 month. Just like any cookie left out in your home, their shelf-life depends on your environment, exposure to pet-dander, dust, mold-count & home humidity.

Try googling "how many grams are in a cup of flour". The package USUALLY will tell you how many grams is in a quarter cup, but you'll need a calculator for big amounts (unless ya good at math). The search engines are great for this though. Kitchen scales are under $20 though, and worth the investment when you get a chance. I LOVE mine, it's been an essential for four years now 💖

Candies that I use (I pretty much buy an entire candy store): M&Ms Jelly beans Mike&Ike's Twizzlers pull and peel(good for garland) Candy canes of various sizes Wafer cookies (they make excellent fences) Pretzels Trolli gummies (particularly the Christmas trees) Gummy bears (the make awesome coloured windows!) Spice drops Marshmallows (for snow/snowmen) Those fruit slice gummies Tips: Skittles are not completely round in shape and heavier than you think, getting them to stick on walls is no fun Cut your spice drops, jelly beans and Mike&Ike's in half with scissors, it stretches out the candies, specific ally if you need particular colours that you ran out of. Candy canes make awesome posts for anything, getting the soft ones make things easier if you want to shorten them. Smaller candies (about m&m size) work best. Too tiny is hard to set in place, too big are quite bulky to place. You can build things from your edibles. Ive built a playgroubd set from marshmallows and pretzels.
