Hello beautiful family! I have binge watched all your episodes in the last couple weeks and I LOVE every one! I am an RN, and when I get home from work I have to tell my husband, "I have to go watch an episode of my favorite family!" :) I lived on a sailboat for 6 years from 24-30 years old. ( I am currently 55). lots of sailing down the coast of California, under golden gate bridge, and one ocean crossing from SFO to Hawaii, back in 1993. it took 19 days, 4 hours and 45 min. :) lol this is where we lived for a few years, and my daughter was born there and was a boat baby for her first year. I can't believe how far electronics have come! lol. we had one GPS that looked like a handheld video game compared to what is available now! I love that you are doing these marvelous adventures with your sweet kiddos and they are a part of everything! Kris, your laugh cracks me up! I love when you say yeeeeouuuuu! Mum, I am just amazed at how wonderful you are with the schooling and "Mum cleaning" the galley. nobody does it better than mom! haha. I watch your episodes on TV, so hard to comment. Bella and Finn, you never cease to amaze me with your talents as cruisers, you are both amazing! are you Ted or finn? your baking skills are over the top lovely! seeing you both bake is a joy! Finn, I loved your new apron! and your burger buns looked Deelish! Archie! oh archie, I LOVE how you are always swinging and climbing on everything! and I love your hair!! you have so much energy! And sweet Pipi! I was so sad when you broke your arm and leg! so glad your doing better! your voice is angelic! all of your kiddos are truly amazing and you all make me smile every day! I'm bummed that I am all caught up on the journey thus far, but can't wait to see what is in store! (sorry for the long message) We live in the Southeast corner of Washington state in a small town called Walla Walla. where sweet onions come from! you can't sail here, but I hope to continue watching your family and all your travels! Be safe! sending much love and prayers to you all!! Hip Hip Hooray!! -- Stefani

Great video guys. What a beautiful island. As for your long term dry goods storage like oats, rice, and flour you likely brought them with you at point of purchase in the form of eggs. If you freeze your dry goods for 24 hours before storing them elsewhere you will kill most, hopefully all the eggs in the future. Safe travels Happy Days ❤

Hey guys, awesome video as always. Keep them coming. Here in South Africa we call those "Wheat Beetles" and their microscopisch eggs is found in 99% of all bought grains & flours, and they hatch when temp and moisture is optimum for them, and once they are hatched its difficult to get rid of them again, so to solve the problem, what we do is to either freeze the packets of grains or flour for at least 12-18hrs, or re-dag and vacuum seal the bags. Hope you didn`t loose all your dry goods. fare winds and safe sailing from sunny South Africa.
@sailingwithsix5 ай бұрын
Thanks, unfortunately freezer space is limited but I think moving forward the vacuum sealer will be the way to go. 😀
@alexsmith99225 ай бұрын
@@sailingwithsix Hi guys, thanks for the reply, understandable that freezing space is limited on the boat, it becomes a big problem when you buy in bulk, what I do is to try and ration my dry goods purchases over a couple of days, and freeze them accordingly, once frozen for the 12 - 18hrs, you can take them out of the freezer, and stow them away with no worries. Sealed containers or vacuum sealing after the freezing process just adds another layer of protection, and you should be able to keep dry goods for years. hopes this info helps a bit. fare winds & hold fast Alex

Hi Kris and Shona and crew! I love your channel and always look forward to catching up with your adventures. I just wanted to recommend a story that may or may not interest and entertain you. It's titled 'Trustee from the Tool Room' by British/Australian author Nevil Shute. My grade 7 teacher chose it as a term reading assignment but, typically, I read it all the way through within the first week. Your bugs-in-the-rice incident reminded me of it, though, in this instance, it was weevils in the flour which, if memory serves, didn't go to waste!

its weevils....in your rice and crackers and flour....get them into tupperware and add about a bay leaf per kilo or package. It stops the eggs from hatching. Super gross fish and wheebels in the food. I know you low on freezer space but if there’s not too many of the bugs in the rice, you can freeze the rice which kills the bugs and then you can rinse the rice before cooking it which surfaces all the bugs and you can empty the bugs out. You can do the same with the flour, but you have to sift it to get the bugs out, we used to do that back in Honduras.!!! desperate days though that bag was just nasty!!!🤢

At the time we thought this the best option - the bugs would die/drown before reaching shore as we were in the middle of the harbour and they don't fly. The idea of taking them to shore to burn might work in an unpopulated place but you couldn't be certain to contain all the bugs once ashore. And chemical eradication? What chemicals - fly spray? Open to suggestions as there's a likelihood this could happen again.
