Nex Be yourself and don’t worry about “fitting in.” Joining sports or clubs are a great way to meet new people that may become your friends and plus you can add it to your high school resume. I recommend making a to do list with every assignment/homework or test you have along with the due dates, it has helped me a lot so far because I forget sometimes lol. If you join clubs or extracurriculars make sure that you don’t overwhelm yourself. And if you have any questions feel free to ask them!

Something else I recommend: once a month, sit down and write a story! Throughout high school, you often don’t get a chance to write a narrative story, which makes it SO much harder to write college applications. Practicing throughout your junior will allow you to find a unique voice that will make your essay stand out. From: an incoming freshman at Cornell :)

I think another thing that might be important for picking a college is to look at how they responded to the covid outbreak. Some schools handled it really well but some kicked their students out with 24 hours to leave. In case of another similar event, I think that knowing how your possible schools handled it would be helpful.

if you're a junior and watching this video, you're on the right track - Junior year advice covers academics, extracurriculars, life skills, and college applications. - Academics: Take the SAT early; consider taking many AP tests for potential college credit. - Extracurriculars: Narrow down to core interests; try at least one challenging activity. - Life skills: Learn journaling for stress relief and personal reflection; get a job for experience and financial management; improve typing speed for efficiency. - College planning: Start researching colleges early; consider factors like location, size, and campus atmosphere; visit a variety of schools to narrow down preferences.

"Learn how to type quickly"... Well you see, back in elementary school I was basically addicted to Transformice. I LOVED playing it and spent all my extra time on that game. Although my eyesight quickly deteriorated, I did learn to type quickly in order to chat with my online friends. So, if your parents ever tell you that video games are useless, well sorry to break it to your parents, but thanks to video games, I was able to learn how to type quickly at a young age :)

LITERALLY SAME. as a child i played video games 24/7 and learned how to type SO fast because of typing to friends. Now, so many people compliment me on my fast typing skills and are so impressed. They are blown away to see my typing so quickly without even looking at my keyboard or screen. It’s so funny to me😂 anyways, I just thought it was cool I wasn’t the only one who developed quick typing skills from chatting with friends online. And, it has become such a useful tool since everything is digital nowadays.

My biggest regret was not doing enough college research before the halfway mark of junior year; I didn't take the first semester as seriously as i should have and I know I could have achieved higher grades. I also didn't take full advantage of AP courses in grade 9-10 and club commitments, which would have helped me get a leadership position. Lots of people advise not taking school too seriously to the point of degrading mental health, but there's also a lot of regret that accompanies not taking it seriously enough.

So glad I found this! I'll be a junior this year, class of '22 halfway there! Definitely seems like yesterday I got my 6th grade schedule. Definitely agree with the things you said in this video, finished up my summer assignment immediately, got it out of the way, spending my time working on my book and practicing for the SAT & ACT as I'm looking to head to USNA. Definitely agreed that you should include some AP/Acc classes I waited until this year to take one, but I'll be taking two this year if all goes well, sticking to what I'm good at, AP History & Acc. French 3. I wish my school offered classes like driving and things like that, don't get me wrong they offer a cooking class, but there should be more! Middle school up to now has been very hard on me and I'm sure these last two years will as well. Club wise I definitely regret not joining my freshie year, I was scared I guess. You want to join what you want, not what others want you to join. To all you incoming freshman and underclassman, the first two years are rather simple, depending on where you are but that doesn't mean to slack off, I've never been that type, that first year counts and you still need to keep your GPA up, get a planner even if you don't use it, manage your time, you're growing up and stay true to yourself. Good luck to everyone however this year goes!

Hey juniors I recommend that you take practice tests for both the SAT and the ACT before you dive into studying. For me, I denied taking the ACT because of it’s fast pace, but I grew to prefer it over the SAT because of how straightforward it is as well as its Science section. Also, great video Jasmine!

Something I have to say is that, especially in America, the importance of _which_ college you go to doesn't really matter - that is to say, you don't have to go to the most prestigious university to have a successful future. I talked to a lot of seniors and college students and people in the industry I want to go into, and the one thing they all said is that you _don't_ have to go to an ivy or top 50 or whatever to get a fulfilling job. Most of them work alongside people from all sorts of colleges. Eventually, the college you went won't really matter to your job, and definitely won't be like a stain on your resume or whatever, which I what I was raised to believe. Especially in the field I'm interested in (computer science) professionals in the field have to keep on studying throughout their career anyways bc the industry progresses so quickly. Anyways, all this is just me saying that you don't have to stress out too much about the prestige of the college you go to. There will always be options for the type/location that you like, and there will always be options that you'll have a solid chance of getting into (just by sheer probability, since a lot of decisions are almost arbitrary anyways). So don't stress, and enjoy high school a little, and go through the application process calmly! It really helped me when I found out that major companies like Apple visited nearby schools that I have a very good chance of getting into, like San Jose State. So finding safeties like that is so helpful. So...yeah that was long but...don't stress out! ♥️

As a rising junior (class of 2023 gang) I found this really helpful! I like how you included journaling as something important to work on because I feel like it's a great strategy of dealing with stress. Personally, I like to pretend I'm writing letters to a friend that I haven't seen or talked to in a while, because it makes me explain the entire situation and re-evaluate things as I write. Idk if that's helpful to anyone else who is watching these videos in preparation for the start of the school year, but either way have a nice day! :)

honestly i think learning to type properly is possibly the best thing you can do to prepare for college... never could have imagined how glad I'd eventually be that as a kid my dad made me do those online touch typing programs with a tea towel over my hands so I learned to type fast and accurately without looking at the keyboard, it makes such a difference not having to constantly switch between looking at the board and my laptop while taking notes in lectures

Hey I’m a rising sophomore and I could give you some advice. Don’t slack off because freshman gpa DOES matter and join as many clubs as you can (you can leave them later). I would encourage you to take the workload that works for you! Just because the majority of people go the easy path doesn’t mean you have to! Best of luck and I also encourage you to do a sport it’s great socially (I did XC and Track)
@Elvxn134 жыл бұрын
I agree with the other comment, try hard in your classes because it's really helpful to go into sophomore year and above with a good gpa from freshmen year, bc that's probably the easiest it's gonna get. & branch out! sign up for clubs that interest you a bit and then decide what to focus on. Good luck hun!
