In today's AE86 trueno coupe project update video, I unbox some jdm project car goodies for the AE86. The Toyota trueno coupe ae92 4age needs certain parts in order to fit longitudinal in the engine AE86 engine bay.
We also touch base on the 4age engine swap for the ae86 trueno coupe . I am going to be swapping a 4age 16v and also doing something a little special with it to make the ae86 build a little more unique. I also go over how to turn over an engine by hand / how to manually crank an engine. The toyota corolla ae86 4age project is well underway and I cannot wait to get the 4age 16v in! I see that you have caught the Bike Carb conversion bug as well from Driving 4 Answer. will be amazing to see another bike carb powered 4AGE. for fuel pump, you can prob run the same kind of bike fuel pump similar to what D4A is using.

Definitely! I cant wait to get everything together, connected, and running. D4A has been a huge inspiration for this build. As for fuel, yeah that's definitley an option. I would like to use the stock lines that are already there but I may have to run all new. I will have to watch d4a's video again to see exactly what he did. Thanks for watching!

did they sell you just main jets? Or did they give u the pilot jet and washer for the needle?

I haven't touched the carbs. The place I bought them from replaced the jets and all the needed hardware for my application. With that being said, I am sure I will still need to mess with the jets to get everything working properly. Thanks for watching!

Ahhh yes.. the poor mans itbs. Great budget power but pain in the ass to tune. For the fuel pump you should run low pressure electric pump, atleast that is what we run here with bike carbs

Everybody tells me I'm crazy for going bike carbs but I'm up for the challenge. Figuring it out will be annoying I'm sure, but I'm stoaked to learn. It will all be worth it when I get that WOT flyby. For fuel, I was thinking of running a bung out the bottom of the tank and mounting an external motorcycle fuel pump somewhere inline. I would like to use the existing fuel lines, but still have to figure it all out. I have a gts pump and could run a fuel pressure regulator at the carbs to tone down the pressure. Hmmmmmm decisions, decisions...

Nice man.! Gold bits look sweet! Ae92 alternator should be fine, im pretty sure I'm using one currently. Better than original also as they are internally regulated! 😊

The 4ac engine mounts bolt right up to the 4ag. You don't need 4age specific ones..

Yeah, someone had mentioned that in a earlier comment. I honestly thought they were slightly different but now I know. At least the ones I got are in better condition than the 4ac ones.

I've seen that a lot of people put this carbs and not FCRs, is there a particular reason why?

These carbs came with the kit I purchased. I assume they are a little more common and easier to come by, considering the different motorcycle models they are run on. FCRs are sick too though, and look awesome on all the carb builds I've seen!

I looked into Weber carbs before the bike carbs. Tthey are much more expensive and I honestly dont like the look of them as much as the bike carbs. Definitely a great option though and I am sure they are a bit more efficient since they were designed to be used on a car. Maybe one day...Thanks for watching!

Driving4Answers has a great walkthrough of refreshing a manual rack when you decide to get one. I can attest that manual rack on an 86 is the way to go.

Awesome, I actually scooped one up a very long time ago. I also got T3 manual rack spacers and a supra input shaft for it. Im still a little worried about losing power steering, but hopefully it isn't that bad?

TheBSRecord , It’s not bad at all. To have an unpowered hydraulic rack is worse than a working manual rack. You’ll come to appreciate the feel and feedback. Use power rack steering knuckles for some extra steering angle for added handling characteristics (turn in/counter steer/tighter turning circle/etc.) In short: Manual rack for the win.

Hey man nice video, good to see you upload again so soon rather than being a year between haha. I am curious as to why people choose to go with carbs on a 4age as opposed to sticking with efi? I admit I don't know much about the 16v 4ages having never owned one, just many 20v's

Hahaha yeah I suck at posting in a timely manner 🤣. As for my reasoning behind going the bike carb route, I love the look of a clean, carbed 4age as well as the sound they make. Also, I feel like running carbs gets rid of a lot of complexity on the air and fuel side of things. Just my opinion of course. Efi is more reliable and practical for everyday use though.

What carb jet kit did u get?

I bought the carb kit from DanST Engineering. Currently the jets that came in the kit are what were used to start the engine. I'll check and see I can find the actual size and let you know. I am sure I will need to tune the carbs before actually driving it though. Thanks for tuning in!

You could use the mounts from the 4ac. They are completely identical.

TheBSRecord yeah even the motor mount brackets are exactly the same. The 4AC and the 4AGE are both A series engines. The blocks are identical. The internals are slightly different but even so you could swap them. They bolt up. 4AC’s use the same connecting rods as early 4age’s.

@@thebrownguy2820 makes sense, idk why I thought they were different. I remember reading that people "Frankenstein" A series engines all the time, so it makes sense that the motor mounts should be identical. At least the 4ac mounts can stay with the engine. Thanks for the clarification man 👍
