The 2021 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals is a 10-player round-robin taking place from September 25 to October 4 on chess24, with World Champion Magnus Carlsen, World Cup winner Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Dutch no. 1 Anish Giri playing from a venue in Oslo. The players start with bonus points based on their performance over the $1.6 million tour so far and then play a match each day for a maximum of 3 points. The top scorer after 9 rounds wins $100,000 and is crowned the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour champion.
Each match features four rapid games with a time control of 15 minutes for all moves plus a 10-second increment added each move. The winner gets 3 points and the loser 0. If tied 2:2, then a blitz playoff is played, with two games where the players have 5 minutes and a 3-second increment. If still tied they play a single Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. The winner after a playoff gets 2 points, the loser 1. Oh, more than that. Using some dated online numbers ~1900 players can beat 99% of all players, ~2100 can beat 99.9% of all players, ~2350 can beat 99.99% of all players. The super GMs he beats are probably stronger than 99.9999% of players or so. Unfortunately the table I was looking at only tracks 2 decimal places, so take that with a grain of salt.

That's why Fabi always preps hard when he's about to play Magnus. He knows Magnus isn't that good with openings and he always tries to get advantage with his advanced opening repertoire against Magnus every single time.

@@davidgunawan5778 ??? That's always the case. Not just with Fabi these days. As openings and mid games are always consistent that endgame always goes for draws. And it's part of a plan so that they move in a game where time is less. Which makes preparations harder and where real chess spirit comes to play

@@paulosah1317 When you say "Magnus isn't that good with openings", what you mean is, "Magnus played 12 classical games against one of the top 3 opening experts in the world and didn't lose once, even getting a winning advantage out of the opening in the very first game". People keep saying that Magnus' openings are weak, but that's only compared to the rest of his game. He's still one of the most prepared players in the world, with arguably the best pure chess understanding of anyone. Also, Fabi preps hard against anyone and everyone, that's kind of his thing.

That Be5 move is the most engine-like move I've seen in a while, just smother and tie up everything black has. Engines loves to strangle their opponents, and it has been said that playing Carlsen in an end-game, feels like you're drowning😁 excellent game

Rh7+ Kg6 And then what? Magnus can play something like Re5/Rd5 threatening mate (something like Rh7+ kg6 c6 Re5 threatening Re8#, if you move your rook h5 pawn will fall) so regardless of the move Hikaru can't actually defend the h pawn. Some other variation : rh7+ kg6 rg7+ kxh5 rh7+ kg6 c6 re5 kf8?? kxh7 so yeah, there's no way Hikaru could defend it

Simply not fair. Hirohito is a true ambassador of the game, Magnus couldn't amaze and contribute to making the game popular like Hikaro has, if he tried. Ultimately chess players will be ranked by instinct and that means never before seen positions and very fast games. As such Hikaro, is both the greatest ambassador and player of chess, of all time. So i think its overdue that younshow a game where Hikaro has Magnus for breakfast. Even that cheap prepared trick with the knight fork Hikaro managed to overcome. More Hikaro! (Until Manus practices his communication skills past kindergarden level)
