The 2022 FIDE Candidates Tournament is an 8-player double round-robin that will decide Magnus Carlsen's challenger for the 2023 World Championship match, or, if Magnus decides not to play the match, the two players who will battle it out for the title. There is also a €48,000 top prize at stake. The venue is the Palacio de Santoña, Madrid, from June 17th to July 4th. If players tie for 1st place there will be a playoff on July 5th. No draw offers are allowed before Black's 40th move.
The players get 2 hours for 40 moves, then 1 hour for the next 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment only from move 61. A playoff will feature two 15+10 rapid games followed, if needed, by two 3+2 blitz games. If still tied the players will keep playing single blitz games until one of them wins. If more than two players tie for 1st there will be a mini round-robin. Official website: worldchampionshipcycle.fide.com

Sometimes i wish chess engines didnt exist . No theory , no memorized lines , no nothing . Just moves on instinct and letting the chips fall where they may .
@tubax926
@tubax926 Жыл бұрын
There would still be lots of memorization even if there were no engines. Lines would be studied according to which lines lose or win the most and you'll have to remember how to play sharply. But yes engines do speed up the progression really quickly which will make us run out of fun games in a few decades since they'll all be mostly repeated and everyone might know how to force draws.
@cygnustsp
@cygnustsp Жыл бұрын
@@tubax926 these things happen in cycles... Remember in the mid 90s how hockey was all about zones and defense, clogging up the middle. The game progresses, so will chess. There's unlimited opportunities as long as humans are playing.
@menpower1
@menpower1 Жыл бұрын
No theory, no memorized lines without engines? You just insulted Capablanca, Alekhine, Nimzowitsch, Philidor, López, Caro, Kann, Morphy and basically every chess master pre-1950
@tubax926
@tubax926 Жыл бұрын
@@cygnustsp hockey is a much more chaotic game with much more involvement of confidence, teamwork and physical skill. You cannot compare it to chess. Chess is quite simple at the fundamentals: look for the few promising moves and calculate them if you can, see how you can punish your opponent for bad plays, and be aware of your weaknesses and defend well. These concepts will just branch out over time to become more complicated but that's the essence of chess. You play, study the games, and see how you can improve your thought process in different positions. You pick up techniques from other plays and implement them into your games. That's it, that's how chess progresses as a whole. Engines will just speed up that progress by a whole ton.

@2:47, shouldn't white play Nxe5 dxe5, and then Bxe5 forking two rooks? And even if instead of dxe5, black takes Nxg3, white replies with Nxf7, Kxf7, and hxg3. Finally black will be pawn up but white would be better coz of black king wide open
@Life-Sky
@Life-Sky Жыл бұрын
The thing is white has no pieces nearby to attack, when you sacrifice a piece and your last move is hxg3 it shows that you don't have enough initiative, and while it could be difficult for a sub 1800 player to defend, to a 2700+ it's a free win.
