That was the most beautiful game I've ever seen. Morphy's position in move 14 is so enjoyable, so cunning. And yet it's Barnes that's producing puzzling attack strategies, which Morphy deflects with sheer ingenuity. Every move in this game is connected to a brilliant and exciting idea. Thank you for showing this to me!

Such a bold exchange sacrifice by Morphy. I was all the time thinking that Black was in trouble, but he solved everything by just sacrificing the exchange and counting on the superior activity of his rook, and to use the Bishop for defence purposes. Brilliant. Centralization and activity. That's the name of the game.

Having played chess in Jr. High & High School, my interest started picking up again a few years after college, when Bobby started making news, going into the Championship match vs Spassky in Reykjavik (1972). I think I recall hearing about the amazing stories of Paul Morphy while I was still in HS (class of '65), but those stories were definitely trotted out again with the advent of Fischer. And considering what happened after the '72 match, the two make an odd, eerie sort of quasi-parallel. It's almost enough to make you take reincarnation seriously. ;-) Thanks, agadmator, for another fine analysis of another historical game! Fred

I got so fascinated by this wild guy Barnes so I cheked him up on the Wikipedia;Thomas Wilson Barnes (1825-1874) was an English chess master, one of the leading British masters of his time. He went on a diet and lost 130 pounds(9st 4lb) in 10 months, which resulted in his death.

He died like he played chess - a crazy, attacking, alpha way to die.

12:00 Wow....I was thinking he could force a stalemate, until I realized he's forced to move his pawn.

6:36 this is nicely defended... Or is it? The f3 rook is pinned, because tge d1 rook is undefended... So if ...Rxf5, Rxf5 Qxd1+, Rf1 .. , then the pawn is lost. Am I missing something?

very nice. I am just a casual viewer but I did see the pawn move, and I thought it's necessary for further movement..., - very nice position by the way how the rooks were kind of cut off there even though they could move - however that checkmate was kind of new to me. Nice show then I guess haha

#suggestion I saw you don't have Morphy (Capablanca, Karpov etc.) on the picture from your channel in the background, and since you are from Croatia maybe you could put somebody like Kovačević on the picture too. I know that you don't have a lot of space for the picture but maybe some sort of animated picture would be nice to have it there (just for aesthetic reasons). Thank you for your great work. Hvala na svemu! Pozdrav iz Kutine
