I am unsure about the "death of the 1 drop" celebrations. Basically, if going 1 drop is virtually impossible (other than Gargants there's no army fitting into 5 units), then 2 drops becomes the new 1 drop and we're back to where we started -2 drops fitting neatly 9 units just as the present...battle regiment

god model + a few reinfored units could still be 1 regiment in theory for armies that have them (Kragnos + stonehorns, Archaon + Varangaurd, Nagash + ?? etc.). I think it opens up to more variety as baseline even if 2 drop becomes the new 1 drop for most

I know that a flexible ally system creates some risks for competitive play. But as a casual player (and a list-building Johnny), I really liked the system in 3rd where I can just try out a hero or two or maybe a unit from another army. And it always felt very lore appropriate to ally in a Stormcast unit into another Order army. Lots of fun small list building opportunities that the rigid and expensive regiments of renown just lack. So, I really hope that there still is a flexible ally system in 4th. Allies would never fit into an army's regiments, so there is the balancing factor / risk of higher drops and giving the opponent those five extra CP. To counteract the flexibility. I think that is a nice trade off.

New player been interested in 40k and then found out about AoS. Once I seen the new seraphon units I knew I was going with AoS over 40k. Really looking forward to learning the new rules and feels like il be more on an even playing field now more then ever. Im also really happy I just started buying the army so if units are dropped I didn’t just waste a bunch of money on old units.

Something that hasn't been supposed is that Spell Lores might now be universal like they historically were in WFB, with supplemental faction-specific lores. I think the existence of Manifestation Lores suggests this change, since Endless Spells are mostly universal.

Great show as always! I'm pretty excited about all news that are tricking in for AoS 4.0. The only thing that I'm a bit disappointed is the priority roll/double turn. In a modular game, where everything can potentially change every season, they linked the downside of the double turn to one of the more contentious modules. This means that the thoughts about taking the double turn or not are more important in competitive play (where all modules are used) rather than casual play (where I think this is more the problem). I just wished they looked at casual play and helped there a bit on this...

Battle Formations (aka Detachments in 10E) is a good sign. Given most armies have an AoR or RoR and they said they will be supported I can see 1 generic Battle Formation and 1 based on the AoR/RoR for each faction to give some variation at launch. The general implications of the new army construction rules are interesting. They also seem to solve a big problem that 3E has had with Underworld and such Warbands and how they were implemented. It is going to be interesting to see what units don’t get a hero at all and if they make things in Battle Formations move in and out of Auxiliary.

My guess for manifestation lore - use or take this ability and get x manifestation points. Here’s what you can spend it on - endless spells/invocations, faction terrain, summoning, rally. A module you can choose to play with or not…

My wish that I commented on last week's show appears to have been immediately fulfilled, lol. Glad to see (or at least that it appears, depending on base unit size changes) that the days of going and getting dinner while my opponent moves two 60 model night goblin hoards are into the dust bin of history. I don't think it will make hoards not feel like hoards. I mean ask a 40k player if tyranid gaunts capping at 30 models makes them not feel like a hoard. I love the new list building, especially from the fun of building a narrative as I build my list. I love the head-canon of each hero bringing their "bannermen" to the battle to form up into an army, really feeds my fantasy feels. Not sure where I am on the command points; guess I have no feelings one way or the other yet, until I see more info on command points in general, but I'm hopeful. Also, really interesting that the command trait is being replaced by heroic traits and can now be assigned to any hero; curious to see how that effects general selection for the army.

Minor quibble - the 3 edition reboot cycle isn't really as consistent as you make it sound, if we're going by 'army books invalidated' as the full reboot 40k was 1-2,3-7,8-9,10 >. Whfb was 2-5,6-8 then aos 1-3, 4> (iirc 1st ed whfb had no army books). So the core systems range from 2 editions and 5 editions between full resets, with each number represented. It does feel like of late GW is settling into a far more consistent pattern of 3 year editions and 2-3 edition cycles though.

WHFB 1 (which was its own thing), 2-3 was really separate, 4-5 is very different from 2-3. On average, they do it every 3 editions across the games, though there is of course variance.

Im a bit worried about limiting command points so harshly. Its our vehicle for interactivity in the opponents turn. I'm curious to see how they've handled it. Maybe less CAs for just combat/utility buffs.

Nice structural advantage of the Regiments is that it gives easy 'building blocks' for purchasing and painting. A hero and a handful of units? That's a good project. Feeling like that cool new model should be in your army but not feeling like painting 30 figures? Add it as an Auxiliary. The easy warband construction in LotR makes that game very easy to just grow an army with.

Redeploy says it happens after your enemy has resolved all their actions. So does that mean after they deep strike you can redeploy away now? Loving all these articles and the discussions around them. Getting really hyped!

Next weeks Warhammer Weekly should be a bit interesting with the Legend news from today. With command points i can see Warlords or certain Leader models having a do this ability for free type of thing. It sounds like they are taking some points from 40k. I'm curious if battleshock going away will also follow 40k and you roll when the unit is under 50% and if you fail you can not claim objectives or have commands issued to you. i'm sad for losing my evo kitties, but i knew SCE needed a major culling and i wonder if this is enough. We lost a chamber, but we are getting a whole new chamber and several units are getting updated models. Overall i'm decently optimistic for 4.0 right now. subject to change as more gets previewed of course.

Hey Vince, I've been a long time supporter of this channel, but it's the first time I actually notice the advertisements. Especially in this video, where it's very frequent. Literally almost every minute. I remember listening to your Warhammer Weekly for hours while painting and I don't recall there ever being ads in these shows usually. Is this a new trend we should expect looking forward? Thank you

It shouldn't be, KZbin will sometimes get squirelly and place a bunch of ads, but I looked at the ad placement and there is only 1 in the whole show (which would be normal). I am not sure what is happening if you are seeing more.

My main concern with the Double Turn change is that if the tie breaker at a tournament is based off how many points the players scored during their games, then I feel like most players will try to avoid it as much as possible unless they think they cannot win without it and then they rather sacrifice points than getting a loss

I like the new double turn cost, it rewards skill and game insight heavily. Even more so if you can force your opponent to take a double with skillful utilization of reactive abilities etc, ie allowing you to go would break them

Yeah, buy you can force your opponent to choose to take the turn if they win the priority roll. Skill with redeploy, correct use of finest hour, AoD/AoA etc (or more correct, what AoS4 gives us that are like those abilities). Guess I should have written "force your opponent to choose to take a double turn", wording is hard.... and wordy

Based on the background propaganda I assume that Tyler is also an economist. So there's that. What I think would be cool is mixing and matching v1 and v2 liberators to fit the vibe of them being reformed

Why is this different, functionally, from saying unmodified hit rolls of 1-4 doesn't hit?

When it comes to the prio roll change I feel like it doesn't change anything. I feel like even now you only take a double when you win the game immediately. Better to coast with control of prio and the bonus resources than gamble on a sketchy double. Might push new players to rethink always taking doubles though.

I don’t know. Are the new army composition rules that much simpler than they were? I still feel like there are a lot of disparate considerations being layered into what I think should just be a framework for figuring out which units I bring to the table. There can be restrictions, but I want those restrictions to be as immediately apparent as possible. I don’t think it’s terrible to require x number of basic, battleline if you will, units. Or to require a minimum of 1 and a maximum of whatever heroes. Those are all parameters on the same level of complexity. Add the points restriction of your chosen game size, that’s a fine, simple, and clear parameter. Specifying that a unit can have a max number of models is ideally done in the same place you find the minimum, the warscroll, but I guess “you can double it” sort of works even if it adds the need to check two places to figure out how big your unit can be. Some units are unique and can only be taken once per army? Fine, they’re usually named, it makes intuitive sense. Now at that point they could have stopped. But they didn’t. Now you add a layer of stuff that’s not even really about putting together your army, but is about how you sort them in order to play the deployment mini game. You tie units to heroes, you have max number of heroes allowed, with exceptions, and then you decide if you want to go for the smallest number of groups or largest depending on whether or not you want to win the deployment game. Or do I want a bunch of non-group units and have a shot at getting extra command points? Plus a bunch of battle tactics, etc. I don’t think that’s particularly elegant. I certainly don’t think it’s very much simpler than what has come before. But I don’t know. Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe it’ll seem like a better system once we have all the rules. No subfactions in the traditional sense sounds great though. There are few things that irk me more in warhammer than people clamoring for their special little lore subfaction to get special rules. This is just the worst with space marines. Just lean into the unit choices and styles of your desired subfaction, it’ll be fine. If you want your army to be all Squigs or whatever you don’t also need an extra gimmick that makes them bounce faster or something.

If command points are super scarce, then we might just never see auxiliary units as giving your opponent 5 CP over the game won't be worth it. But, if both players typically get 5-10 CP a turn anyway, getting 6-11 doesn't seem as unbalanced.

arkhan's regiment had a deep discount, but you're paying for a triple caster with no lore access. most of the points you pay for arkhan himself are going into spellcasting ability he just can't use in a regiment of renown.

Double Turn Change --- Makes the entire point solely to alpha the enemy (secondarily, in rare cases, to stop your opponent from scoring in other ways, but that's going to be in very specific circumstances where you already have a lead and see a means to keep it that way, even if it's not an overt alpha) Army Composition Change (battle formations and regiments) --- Interesting. Doesn't seem like you can double reinforce anymore (so, can only have 10 Judicators in a squad, never 15, for instance). I will need to see more of these regiments, because I don't like how they are squatting subfactions in AoS like they basically did in 10th. (well --- subfaction mechanics are being effectively squatted outside of whatever unique abilities named heroes have). Also, it confirms that the "regiments of renown" that have been released up until now were testing this idea out early. One drop isn't dead --- it's just really really difficult and only some armies can do it. I wonder if this means these armies will pay a points premium (which causes self-reinforcement) if they have an easier time of 1 dropping It is a more flexible way of building your army, not unlike how 10th 40k has a theoretically more flexible approach. Really depends on these regiments as they seem to be miniature versions of 10th 40k's detachment, mixed with the original warscroll battalions of pre-AoS 3 and the Core Battalions of AoS 3. Overall, not sure what I think on new army building. Some armies (khorne and fyreslayers) really need a lot of heroes to function at all. A simple re-write isn't going to change that. So, I'll have to see more of these regiments (namely the inevitable Battletome / Faction specific ones) CP being scarcer than before -- I really do not like that change. I remember pre-AoS 3 when command points were few and far between. I REALLY liked AoS 3's system on this. This is NOT 10th 40k making corrective changes to the excesses of 9th 40k's system on command points. It is an unnecessary change here. (And also unwelcome) Magic --- I don't like magic being abilities like they did with psychic powers for 40k. It's a bad change and makes it less interactive. I don't care if it "speeds up the game" by doing it this way. The whole point of the game is to interact and this was one axis of that interaction that has been truncated in the name of "simplicity" or "reducing friction". My dudes -- we can only stand upright because of friction. Friction is not necessarily your enemy. Some friction isn't simply a necessary evil, it's actually good. Thunderstrike SCE --- Kinda figured. The original SCE models are nearly 8 years or so old at this point. Wouldn't be surprised if Vigilors are reboxed as Judicators. Feel bad for other armies who have models that are even older than 8 years that likely need a refresh even more. (the new liberators look good, but seem to be Hammers only -- so less options unless you have bits available elsewhere --- but I liked the original design of SCE --- especially the Paladins like Retributors and Protectors) We'll see if they fully replace the Sacrosanct and Vanguard chambers with thunderstrike. SCE Scrolls being Cut --- They better do a better job than going into AoS 3. They pruned too much, in my opinion.

Really struggling with AOS at the moment. I've got 4k of Skaven fully painted and 90% of it is on the list they showed of models getting axed.. I've just bought and assembled 2k of Bonesplitterz and they were my next painting project. Waste of time and money it seems... And now they've colour coded abilities on the new warscrolls. Due to colour perception issues I can't tell the difference between the Hero Phase and the Charge Phase or the Shooting Phase and the End of Turn. Suppose I can still play 2nd or 3rd editions or just stick to Blood Bowl 😫

So let me see if I can help here. First, nothing from Skaven is really going away (or very few). All of those are just getting new sculpts (for the most part, who knows on something like the Rat Swarms, which haven't had a real model for years, but clanrats, warlocks, all of those things will just get new sculpts). You do NOT under any circumstance have to replace thsoe models. All of those skaven are still perfectly playable and good. On the Bonesplittaz, yeah, that is a shame, we have been warding people off of those for a while now, since the last book came out, as it felt obvious they were on the chopping block. That is not victim blaming, it's not your fault if you didn't see a show, but at least its before you spent all the time painting them. Now, onto the color coded, remember, each of them still has 1) a symbol that matches to the phase and 2) the actual phase listed (if you look, you will see - In Your Hero Phase). You don't need to use the colors, it's just one amongst many reminder items to ease in UX.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me Vince. I think I'll still paint the Bonesplitterz, I might get a few months out of them after they're painted before they're canned in summer 2025! I don't think it's right about the symbol matching the colour of the phase from what I can gather from the two warscrolls they've shown today. Assuming I'm reading it right the Liberators' single ability is used in the End of Turn phase the same as Nagash's Hand of Dust ability. They however have different symbols as one is a passive objective control ability and one is an offensive ability. I think it's the passive ones that will cause an issue as those abilities don't have the phase written in the heading.

@@jonathondaniels2127 Anything that is phase locked has a symbol. Anything that is passive is "always on" it just has a certain phase it might function specifically in (like when you're capturing). BUt hopefully it will all be clear as you see more. They are certainly not relying on the color alone and this is FAR more clear tha what it used to be, which was just a block of text that said everything, including when it applied. They are taking a wide approach to try to make it more usable for all.

I really do not like the regiment system so far. 1. There seems to be no incentive at all to pull you into higher drops. 2. Most armies will easily fit into 2-3 drops. If everyone is 2-3 drops it defeats the purpose of the entire system by forcing more games into a coin flip. 3. The number of drops in your army is decided primarily by how reliant your army is on heroes, and the units they pair with not on player decisions. 4. The bonus cp is for less auxiliaries, but I don't see many scenarios where the player with less auxiliaries has less drops, so it feels like a double incentive to keep drops low. It fixes the battle regiment problem. And is better than what we have right now. But it feels like they gave up on incentivizing going high drop, when the problem with the aos 3 system was that the incentives were bad, not that pulling people to high drops was a bad idea.

Hi. I hope you give GW a good load of critiscism next episode. Imo mainly for lack of planning and transparency. They need to set people's expectations right. If stuff are gonna rotate at a certain speed, fkin say so. And not two months before its happening. And not while a lot of the stuff is for sale. Rotations are fine. People would understand. It's common in other game systems. But you gotta have a plan for it, that I, who buy the stuff, can say, 'I accept this'. They can not afford to have low costumer trust, long term. If they want their business to work (selling models super expensive, while 3d-printint and other alternatives get increasingly cheaper, better and more abailible), they need people to be on team GW.

Sort of, I actually think this was good comunication, this wasn't 2 months, it was 15 months before it happens. None of these models officially rotate until summer 2025. That feels like a good amount of warning. I don't love some of their choices, and I don't like the implementation on stuff like the SCE, which Ihave sharp thoughts on, but this was a very early announcement. They actually learned from last time and gave us lots of warning, I was very pleased with that.

I was super excited for 4th ed. But like most other people who mained BoC, my enthusiasm is in the dumpster with my faith in GW as a company. But they are still going to produce and sell my army for TOW. Eat a steaming bag of goat $&!#

Doubling losing the battle tactic seems a bit tournament brain. Casual games are decided by who is left: and that’s what casuals complain about with double turns. They wanted to limit damage potential not get some point thing

i wish completing battle tactics gave an advantage in the game. could be free troop moves, boost to priority, rerolls, combat advantages, reinforcements. even if the bonus was minor i think it would make the game more fun.

they lost me at "first to finish deployment choose first turn". I know a lot of people are loving it. I hate it and i have issue giving credits to people skill just by winning the lotery at the list building. Initiative roll stays, i'm ok because it's aos

Yeah I won’t be getting into this edition. I’m disappointed that they are cutting whole armies and parts of armies. It’s not the customer’s fault that GW has model line bloat when that is what they are selling us. I’ll play One Page Rules from now on. GW is not worth it anymore.

@@hll705 I'll talk about this next week, but I think the SCE can be okay (I mean, it sucks, straight up, full stop), but most all of those models just become cool versions of other models with robes. Sequitors = Liberators and so on. Not a perfect fix and perhaps cold comfort, but doable for sure.

@@VinceVenturella I might still finish painting my 2000 points of Nighthaunt since I’m just three minis shy. But I’m a slow painter. The Nighthaunt have taken over a year with a really quick paint scheme. I had been chipping away at the firstborn imperial fists I started 15 years ago, before my hobby break. Then of course, with a tank and five veterans to go until I hit 2000 pts, I was down to like 1200 again. Fair enough. It was in essence a 3rd edition army. I had 2000 points of sacrosanct lined up for my next project after the ghosts. It’s starting to seem a bit futile. The Stormcast are new. Native to AoS. And every rules reveals strikes me as moving the game in a gamier direction, away from any semblance of being a war game. It feels an edition away from being a card game with 3d plastic tokens. Underworlds, but requiring buying and painting a new 2000 point army every three years. As though the short edition cycles weren’t punishing enough in just rules costs.

While I understand the reasoning, I hate the loss of lore associated with subfaction. Gave the faction more distinct identities within itself. Now it’s gonna be Stormcast, Sword battle formation, or Shield battle formation Boring. And dimmer. We’ll see how it goes.

I understand this opinion, I disagree with it for 2 reasons. 1) If the rules they give for the subfaction don’t support the narrative of that subfaction this causes a problem. (eg Draichi Ganeth have “among the most masterful warriors” as fluff, but need to charge to get -1 Rend and become barely average.) 2) If the rules are bad for a subfaction players who want to embrace that part of the narrative are now at a disadvantage compared to players that make different choices (eg Hammers of Sigmar vs Tempest Lords). Having rules for themes (or fighting styles) present in a faction allows players more freedom to interact with the narrative as they desire. This is better for the game as a whole than driving players into specific narrow things to make the models they want to use work. I have seen this in other games as well - general rules that match the themes of the faction that can be embraced in different ways by players to tell a story they want is better than locking things to some specific view of a narrative.

I'm highly religious person, and today I'm grateful to my God more than ever for saving me from becoming addicted to tabletop games. Seriously, I would ruin all my health and mental strength if I worried about such things. However, I enjoy reading books, collecting and building miniatures -and I will continue to do so! P.S: I still think that Warhammer Age of Sigmar is the best setting ever made by Games Workshop. Simply because GW in all other cases shows its extreme ignorance in history and politics, physics and technology. So let them keep making cool mythological epics!☦
