Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul aka the guy with a big Hyuang like Ahsoka..
-
Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Ahsoka Episode 4.
-
We're now at the mid point of the series and the episodes packed with easter eggs, hidden details and lots of things going on with it that we need to talk about. Picking up immediately after last weeks entry, that saw Ahsoka and co discovering the Eye of Sion after tracing the super star destroyer tracking device. This of course also explains how Hera shows up this week going against the Senators orders. Whether that means some of them are still inline with the Empire remains to be seen but as we know there are imperials in every aspect of the new republic.
Anyway Ahsoka and co ended up landing in the Forest which is when droids were sent out after them and that takes us into the brand new entry. Directed by Pete Ramsey he co-directed Into The Spider-verse and Season 3 Episode 5 Of The Mandalorian.
-
Now we begin with the T6s crew trying to fix the ship so that they can reach out to home one with whats going on.

Two continuity errors… the ship rising out of atmosphere after already being shown in space multiple times (right before launching into hyperspace they make it sound like they are just leaving the atmosphere….. second upon Sabine getting choked her lightsaber is on the ground then picked up by shin the next shot it’s on sabines hip then the next scene back in shins hands

Baylan is easily my favorite character. They didn’t make him a stereotypical evil villain who easily loses to the “good guy”. The dude is stoic, has a purpose he feels he needs to fulfill. He’s a good “villain” who in my opinion isn’t a villain. He’s a grey character because he isn’t evil, he’s just doing what he thinks is right, which is bringing order to the galaxy

I never really focused on Marrok's identity as I didn't think there was going to be a massive reveal for it, the show is about Ahsoka & Sabine trying to find Ezra & stop Thrawn so for them to add a Starkiller, Barris Offee or someone else into the mix really would've diluted the focus of the show. It is SUCH a shame about Ray Stevenson's passing as his Baylan is absolutely mesmerizing, he'll be greatly missed and long remembered.

For someone who dealt with the Empire as a rebel experiencing the losses, hardships and just plain cruelty to just give up the map is stupid. Paul, don't you think Ahsoka had a chance to destroy the map with her saber, but instead grabbed it? I think a part of her wanted to help Sabine bring back Ezra, pershaps shouldering lingering guilt over failing her Padawan, so Ahsoka didn't have it in her to take that last hope away from Sabine in that very moment. Emotions get the better of them, even the best force wielders from a long line of non-traditional Jedis.

Aside from the Thrawn shots, the trailers for "Ahsoka" only show scenes from this first half of the series - something I realized about halfway through this episode. That thought is quite exciting, because we really don't know what's coming :) Kinda like we only saw scenes from the first act of Endgame in the trailers, because they didn't want to ruin the fun of exploring the time heist storyline, or the grand finale.

Baylan has a larger plan. I think he’s trying to access the world between worlds to un-do something. The “new beginning” he’s talking about is for himself - he’s dark now but you can sense that he’s not fully turned. Ray does such a great job conveying being conflicted but doing what he thinks needs to be done. He’s hesitant to fight Ahsoka or even fight Sabine at all, not out of fear but sadness and empathy. He has also shown he will do so if he needs to or is ordered to, he sure doesn’t seem happy about it and is always trying to talk his way out of a duel. Maybe he’s trying to reset and stop Order 66 and the murder of his master? All of his dialogue has seemed layered to hint at a deeper plan that was on the right side of good, at least to him. Really enjoyed this episode and this breakdown. Thanks Paul! Much love to MT as well!

The fight scenes were also top notch, you really feel that one wrong move leads to a killing blow. It looks like Ahsokas in the world between worlds but because Anakin said “didn’t expect to see you here so soon” might mean Ahsokas just unconscious and is just “one with the force” in a way. I feel as if he’s just going to tell her he’s not her fault and she needs to let him go to be there for Sabine. Although I’d rather just an hour long episode of them talking about life like a podcast lmao

In kendo, the position that Asohka takes with the lightsaber on his head is called Jodan no kamae, and it is the fire stance. Then when she puts the saber to one side of her body it is called Waki no kamae, the gold stance and the one that Baylin uses at that moment is Hasso no kamae and it is the tree posture. When they have the sword down at the level of the belly button, it is called chudan no kamae and it is the posture of the water.

Because. Continuity errors. Turgid dialog. Wasted character (whatever that inquisitor was). Faster-than-the-Falcon travel. Impenetrable plot armour. Ashoka’s fighting style does not mirror her training through clones and rebels. Lack of wire work. Static combats. Loose plot threads. Too much focus on Easter Eggs and geeking out and not enough attention to the story. No Thrawn (just how is he communicating?) All this and much more in this weeks episode of S.O.A.P.

@@marcbrehaut9510 Not saying you're _all_ wrong, but here are some points you made I wanna question: 1. Why is Marrok's death a waste? If intent matters, maybe he was written to serve as an expendable antagonist that builds interest/intrigue with a hidden face and also shows another glimpse of Morgan Elsbeth's potential power through his magic-evident death. If you thought it was wasteful just cuz it didn't match your expectations/hopes for the character, what would you have preferred? Can a new character be introduced in the other half or so of the season left that can satisfy those hopes/expectations? 2. "Lack of wire work"? You wanted more complicated stunts that involved people flying/jumping and acrobatics? 3. You criticize the lack of Thrawn and question how he communicates. Firstly, if you wanted Thrawn by now, fine, that's what you want, and the show didn't provide. Do you at least see the sense of putting him off for later to build intrigue and invest more in narrative and character development by showing the _journey_ to him? Also, it's very understandable if you didn't know this like I just learned, but Thrawn's gonna be the antagonist in Dave Filoni's _Star Wars_ *film.* That at least makes it much more understandable for the show to focus on these _other_ characters just working so far on _finding_ him, right? As for Thrawn communicating, is there any evidence that he _has_ communicated from his exile? Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I thought everything so far was just about people trying to find him without hearing from him at all. ...finally, what's "S.O.A.P."? :P

Surely the hologram tech is simply the de facto way to hold a conference call in this universe, akin to almost everyone in the business world using Teams IRL?

Edit: I really enjoyed watching the end of the episode it made me want more which is an excellent feeling to give someone while watching a show, also I was watching with subtitles on and was elated lets say when as the credits popped up it said Vader's Theme for a subtitle, which was a perfect moment from the friendly demeanor Anakin had to the sinister Vader theme.

But what George stated and implied in his movies and canon is vastly different from whats being interpreted and canonized here. I guess maybe the disconnect is because we never saw Ahsoka training Sabine and everytime we see Sabine being trained in the Force, she fails miserably. So how does a person, who everytime we see them in a training montage fails, then goes on to use the Force... If she can use the Force then by comparison Donnie Yen shouldve been a god damn Jedi Master savant 🤷🏽‍♂
