Ahsoka sinks to new lows of abysmal writing as nothing makes sense. Nothing is remotely logical and it's all so girl bosses can girl boss and men can be utter useless.

Yup. There are so many damn reasons this plot cannot be happening unless they reveal next episode that the coffin luggage needed charging or something and that Thrawn didn’t want to kill Ezra and lays out a very good reason for why he needed him to live. This doesn’t mean the story will be good but at least they would be recognizing that this story shouldn’t be able to even happen since Thrawn had the knowledge of when Elsbeth was arriving to have been packed and ready to go and he had the means to find and kill Ezra as well meaning that he shouldn’t be alive either. I don’t see how this story can get much worse unless they introduce a poorly constructed multiverse or so something into the show.

In the opening scene of Heir To The Empire, actual Thrawn got into space battle with local military contingent. To ensure that this fight won't waste precious resources, he put into a motion plan based not only on known military tactics but also on culture and psychology of his enemies to pick tactics and maneuver that will catch his enemy off guard. Jake Thrawn throws half of that remains of his much more limited resources on a bunch of Jedi, the elite magic warriors he fought both with and against during his career because he never particularly liked Jeff and his platoon anyways.

How did Thrawn not know Anakin was Ahsoka's master until just now?
@beowulfsrevenge4369
@beowulfsrevenge4369 9 ай бұрын
He definitely should know that. Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka were kind of a big deal in the Clones Wars, and it's not like Ahsoka was a secret apprentice. I don't remember too much from the Clone Wars cartoon, but I think Anakin and Thrawn interacted in a few episodes, in which case Ahsoka would most likely be involved on some level. He may not have known Vader and Anakin were the same person as that was supposed to be a big secret that even Thrawn didn't know. Thrawn is the sort of ruthless tactician that would make up plans on how to defeat his own allies and forces in order to prevent the enemy from being able to surprise him. He'd definitely read up on the jedi and have as much information on them as possible in case he had to fight someone with the Force like Count Dooku. Where better to find a way to kill a sith than a jedi?

Listen to the Marc Thompson audiobooks for the Expanded Universe again. You'll be way happier than listening to how Disney continue to just be Disney. I always liked C-3PO. He just wants a peaceful life so he can work. He doesn’t care who he works for, he’s prepared for any job. But he keeps getting pushed around by others. He’s essentially kidnapped in Attack of the Clones, Artoo pushes him off a ledge and he gets decapitated, then he gets dragged off from the fight and reassembled. He gets dragged around in A New Hope, and in Empire Strikes Back he gets blown up because he took a wrong turn looking for his friend. Poor 3PO.

I remember when my younger brother was watching Clone Wars, he picked up and started reading my old Heir to the Empire trilogy I'd left at home. He got real excited when he realized that the creators of the CW show had included Baal Organa's painting, as described in the books by Timothy Zahn, hanging in his senatorial office. It showed that these were people who cared about the franchise and loved it and breathed it. Maybe they didn't always contribute the BEST-written new stuff but you knew they were fans and cared about the setting and the characters. All that seems to be gone now. Shit's just slapped in because "corporate says viewers like easter eggs" or some other equally soulless reason. It's all just so deeply empty.

Well, creations can only be as smart as their creators - that should explain the mess we're presented with in this TV show. The "fights" in this episode make no sense at all, for example, why would any army leader give orders for landing 2 Gunships, deploying his soldiers on ground and forcing them to fight on foot, when they could just destroy an enemy, that has no defenses against aerial attacks, from above with those fracking GUNSHIPS?! And may be i'm remembering it wrong here, but didn't Thrawn say something about losing a good portion of his forces in the last episode? So why on earth would he give orders that would result in losing even more soldiers?

It's funny the bearded monk didn't take the light saber, but later picked up a blaster during fight. Grand Unadmirable Prawn pretends to be a master strategist but everything he does seems to help out his enemies aiding in their escape. Grandma Soka training looked like a stiff board moving through molasses. 3PO's cameo was boring and while he handed them some data chip, we never got to see what's on. So basically they took an androids word that Leigh approved the mission. Oh....and yes, Punk Rock Girl is the worst actress on TV. No emotion while in a gun battle fighting for her life. Deliberately blocking blaster shot with her beskar armor as a Jedi with a light saber. Darth Poodle looked lost after the fight only to have Grandma Soka offer her a hand to help. She runs away like a teen being put on punishment by their parents instead sticking around and continue the fight like Darth Maul in the Phantom Menance. One more thing, Grandma Soka ship was being attacked by three fighters for half the episode and never received any damage! This show is horrible and seems it was created to target 5-12 year olds with elementary dialogues and powder puff fight scenes.

People need to stop watching shows while playing on their phone and recognize they are playing on their phone because what they are watching is crap. Big explosions, spaceships, aliens, and guns are fun for a while. But what keeps the interest is a good story. That's why people can go back to shows that are decades old and still enjoy them.

Thrawn in the Expanded Universe : singlehandedly destroys a small fleet by exploiting its crew species' natural flaws and clever manuveurs. Enlists a powerful albeit mad Dark Jedi to boost the morale of his troops and keep Luke guessing, while leading him into the hands of a vengeful Mara Jade, still bitter over the Emperor's death, employs Ysalamiri to protect himself from the Force, puts cloak devices on a bunch of asteroids to create an invisible deadly blockade around a planet. Thrawn in Disney : constantly surrounded by idiots, relies on gimmicks like a chameleon droid or the TIE Defender (who was Grand Admiral Zaarin's creation, not his), never achieves a true victory against the Rebels, gets his TIE Defender factory blown up by one of his allies, is taken away by space whales summoned by Ezra, wastes his limited resources on stalling Ahsoka, Sabine and Ezra while his ship is barely in any condition for a battle.

Filoni and co have what I'll call short term writing syndrome. They pretty much write something that sounds vaguely logical then add in lots of writing fluff (That any editor worth their salt gets any book writer to remove) and never once create a document to stockpile every piece of worldbuilding or character work they need. They have to write their story in bullet points over a few weeks. Most writers like Mangakas lock themselves in their room for months before they even start to write the first page and that first page gets rewritten about ten or twenty times. This is why fantasy books often take years to write. It's not always the actual process of writing the story that takes a lot of time but everything you have do before you even get to that point. Its a fact you have to do so much work to make anything even believable. A brand new world with a whole bunch of news rules attached is difficult. Then you have history, geography, magic systems, faction relations, character relations, backstories for major factions/characters and so on. Next you have to compile the hundreds of pages you've written into a story and slowly reveal everything you've done making it work within the character arcs and plot you're telling. Writing isn't hard. It just takes a lot of time. You have read every small thing about hundred of times until it's as close to perfect as possible. Even then you'll never be fully happy with what you've written.

Exactly. I want to become a writer myself and I agree fully. I'm working on a project since 5 years and only wrote a couple of random pages in random spots of the story because I was inspired to write exactly these scenes. The entire premise of the plot changed multiple times due to me learning more and more and wanting to be as realistic as possible. It is sad that there seems to be no passion or time for these professionals to do what I do as a hobby.

@@MajorSmurf Dialogue is rather easy for me. I struggle with the plot. It is hard for me to create a story that is interesting, grounded and not pointless. For some reason, I am more critical of my own stories than of other people's stories. Each of my stories feel to me like nobody else will find them interesting. My main project is an as realistic as possible military story set in the future, but I also prepare for a fantasy series as well. What does your fantasy world look like? Mine is set in a Victorian era, with monstrous creatures inhabiting hostile continents and uncharted oceans. The main focus is on the politics of an industrialized empire that dominates the european-inspired continent. The main character is a person from a freshly aquired colony on the same continent (similar to Ireland for the English) who becomes an assistant of the Imperial ambassador in his home country and travels with him to the capital. There, he wants to become independent and tries working in a factory, since the ambassador is retiring. The main character slowly becomes more and more engaged in the struggles of the working class and becomes a political figure, which doesn't end well. What is your story?
@MajorSmurf
@MajorSmurf 9 ай бұрын
@@henryneubert7798 Yes you're always going to be more critical of your own stuff then others. It's part of the nature of creation. I felt the exact same way when I coded a few small games for myself and I feel the same when writing. You're not alone in that feeling. As for the whether someone will find your story interesting. The best thing is to make sure you have a hook. Do you find it interesting? Would you read it if you saw it on a shelf? If you have a good friend or family member have them read a small self contained story within your world or the first chapter and ask them what they think. As for my world well my story is going for GOT meets LOTR. I have quite a few characters you follow doing a lot of different things in vastly different places within the same continent. Their stories overlap with each other and honestly it's hard to describe it without spoiling the plot but we have gods meddling all over the place. Different magic systems for all the races. Wars and other dark things happening all over the place. For example one of the character you'll follow is a woman bishop trying to bring down her nation from within. Assassination, blackmail, getting her own people into positions of powers and so on. Serves a mysterious other person. What is she after? Who is she serving? Well won't it be fun finding out? Another character is a man who joins a nations army to repay a life debt. His memory lost after being found near death on a beach and nursed back to health. He is terrified of what he will find in his past. He carries a unique ability to only him and he has very little control over it when unleashed. A magic with its own twisted personality. And a whole bunch of side characters who go on minor arcs and crisscross over the main over arcing story.

I feel your pain Az. I have been arguing with people about the Night Troopers and the cope I'm seeing is at record highs. I'm being whined at for expressing disappointment with the Night Troopers and pointing out Filoni essentially missed an opportunity to have the Night Troopers tearing up the battlefield like _genuinely_ elite forces. And as if on cue, I just have randomers criticising me for daring to criticise that overrated, wildly egotistical nerd Filoni, and criticism for allegedly 'missing the point' about why Thrawn was delaying Ahsoka. As if I didn't know. As if it wasn't something literal children could figure out. Then some galaxy brain Disney fanatic will act like it's some massive revelation that Thrawn was sacrificing his troopers (and besides which, he didn't know Baylan would bounce on the group for his own reasons, and he _immediately_ acknowledging that happening on-screen in Episode 7 of 8) I *know* Thrawn was delaying the Jedi, and probably didn't expect 2 squads of Troopers to do much. I _know_ for the love of Padme's midriff. Yet he probably did expect Baylan to at least, be there. I just can't stand the BS. I'm getting bogged down in finnicky arguments about when and where the Imperial Stormtroopers were actually any good as infantry, getting strawmanned over the idea of being disappointed with the quality of the Night Troopers. I didn't even expect the majority to be resurrected. I hoped about half of them might be and the other half were still alive. Even so, just having them get mown down again like blaster fodder, is BORING. F'ing BORING MATE! And that's all I was getting at. Filoni is a lefty bar steward with no testosterone. Of course he won't allow the Night Troopers to be truly cool. It was Filoni's chance to prove to Morgan Elsbeth that 2 squads of Night Troopers are a lethal strike force on the battlefield. An elite guard legion remnant if you will. He's been stranded out on Peridea with the dwindling numbers of his private army of troopers, for *about a decade* and that should imply staggering things. The main cast including most of the villains have only been on Peridea for a day or two and they seem absolutely terrified and weirded out by the place. Something is amiss. Something is lurking out there (a lot of folks are saying it's Abeloth and it'd be nice if that were true though, we'll see) Whatever the case, all I was saying today was that I just wanted Thrawn's Troopers, the Night Troopers, to be a credible fighting force. Then I get bickering matches over how the Imperial Stormtroopers were 'always bad'. Kenobi said they were very accurate shooters in ANH (1977) and although that admittedly aged badly, as they became increasingly nerfed to the point of the Emperor's finest Stormtroopers getting crushed by Ewoks of all things, as some moral message by Lucas right there, that the smallest and most primitive can defeat the loftiest/most arrogant technological faction around. I get it. But the thing about me criticising the Night Troopers being so disappointing in this episode, it is all totally related to how they were hyped up in the directly previous episode. They were brought into view with Thrawn with the organ music blaring. Of course they aren't going to be on par with the 501st at their best or the Republic Commandos, ARC Troopers or Rebel Commandos even. Still, wouldn't it have been nice to see them being competent? Can't show the bad guys being competent now! Because I blamed this in part on Filoni being a lefty who just won't give them a break, lining them up to be wiped out in multiple series, the usual suspects were chirping back at me complaining about me 'calling him' a Lefty. As if it is cool to be cynical about that. 'Imagine calling someone a lefty and disliking an episode because of xyz minor criticisms' etc words to that effect. I can't be bothered with it. It's why I haven't bothered to argue about such things for a long time. It's like talking to brick walls. It never results in anything productive. They won't be told. Instead I get dogpiled for mildly and emotionlessly voicing disappointment in the Night Troopers. It was Jabroni's big moment to have the Night Troopers tearing it up like magic enhanced dark-sided SAS troopers gunning down crab people. It could have been the moment where they are chased over the terrain. If Thrawn wanted to waste time, there'd be no better way. Hound them away from the main area where the Nightsister Great Mothers are based, where the _Chimaera_ is docked atop the temple/prison/bastion structure. Make them lose time by driving them further, and further away. Better still, why not just have killed Sabine and never had her reunite with Ezra? Why seek to destroy Ezra when you could strand him on Peridea forever anyway? Because F logic, that's why. Because Filoni is a bad writer, that's why. All I was really hoping for was the Night Troopers to be cool and show their skills and actually pose a credible threat to the main characters. Maybe Ezra gets shot in the arm? Maybe Sabine's Mando style pistolier marksmanship is constantly unrewarded as Imperials take cover and go to ground, or use squad tactics to distract her from different angles to bring her down non-fatally? Maybe Ahsoka would be unable to rejoin the group and be chased by bandits and Night Troopers, as well as Baylan, into the craggy rocks of the hills? Maybe Sabine ends up stunned by a Night Trooper as she gets into a lightsaber blade-lock with her future girlfriend Shin Hati, and Baylan Skoll stops her from killing her? Maybe Baylan and Shin take Sabine away from the group as a hostage as they continue on their way? But now Baylan and Shin have split? What? Baylan has just let his padawan go, to follow her own ambitions. This is silly. They should stick together. It's just Filoni acting like a galaxy brain thinking he is setting something clever up later. We know Baylan won't be long for this story because of his in-real life actor Ray Stevenson very sadly passing away in May this year. If Abeloth is brought into the series as some kind of end of season cliffhanger moment, then she may well kill Baylan on the spot anyway. If it's nothing to do with Abeloth, then so be it. I don't care. I just thought it was a waste of time and a wasted opportunity to have Thrawn's veteran troopers who survived on this nightmare world for a decade, to be genuinely good soldiers. Imagine if they were taking minimal casualties? It would really convey to the audience how screwed the lax and lazy New Republic is, when an army of Night Troopers and worse is coming for them from Peridea, soon. Imagine if they were shown to be fighting to real-world standards, thanks to some reworked training regimens by Thrawn? Instead, they get crushed like toy soldiers yet again. It's so, so disappointing. I don't know exactly what I was expecting with them, but I foolishly allowed myself to have a bit of hope for them to be interesting, from the previous episode hyping them up. Predictably, they were just used as a delay, and distraction, no better than Moff Gideon's abysmal remnant Stormtroopers from The Mandalorian. I can't stand it. You'll get smug lefties who clearly want the Rebels to win all the time, pretending to not be biased against the Imperials, and then getting precious about ANY and all criticism of the way the Imperials are constantly portrayed as morons. Thrawn is a genius in the Star Wars galaxy. He is space Napoleon. Space Nelson. He isn't going to be outwitted by any old randomer. He deserves more success, and so does his troopers. Why do they have to conveniently be no better than graduating cadets fresh out of the Imperial Academies? Why do they _have_ to be rubbish? Why do they conveniently need to befit the trope so repeatedly shown in Filoni's other series? Why is it _always_ the Imperials being embarrassed and downplayed? Because Filoni is a lefty tosspot and won't stop making the Imperials boring to watch. It's not entertaining. It's just shite. Imagine how much more frightening Thrawn would be if his private army was actually devastating? Like a Clone Legion come again. Filoni: _NOT ON MY WATCH!_ [puerile giggle and dribble, while he looks at his risque Ahsoka pin-up calendar]

"Can't have the space fascists be cool, or people might want to emulate them!" Said the Lucasfilm storygroup, then returned to licking their windows. Beating modern Star Wars Imperials is like bullying a disabled child. It's not an achievement, because that requires an obstacle which the heroes must struggle to overcome. All the women in KK productions effortlessly glide through the plot, which is why their stories are so stodgy and boring. Even if they get stabbed by a lightsaber, they just get up like nothing happened. It's horrible.

Nailed it. They are basically expressing fantasies of how they'd like to treat their political opponents and undesirables, through the medium of Stormtrooper abuse. Smash-cut to Boba Fett wiping out an entire platoon by himself with a stick. @@APsychicMonkey

I love how Az's reactions and analysis of each episode is ten times more entertaining that the series itself.

Say what you will about Andor, but they set the stakes on the first episode. He gets accosted by the two security guys, accidentaly kills one and gets his gun. The other panics and starts pleading that if he just turns himself in, he will get leniet treatment. And Andor shoots him in the head, because he cant get caught and no loose ends. Not gonna try and convince anyone to watch it, because fuck Disney getting viewing numbers, but you get tension right from the start. And Dave Filoni manages to do nothing with the actors he has. I've seen Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ray Stevenson, Rosario Dawson, Genevieve O'Reilly in other things and they can act. So he is purposely telling them to deadpan everything. And this idiot says he is inspired by Kurosawa. Kurosawa would commit seppuku with a spoon if he was alive and found himself compared that single cell organism.
