the wound made the nitroglycerin to run into his heart and his own quirk made his heart explode. shigaraki probably did cause a fatal wound but bakugo killed himself with his own quirk thats what caused the explosion. The author said this and comfirmed it. If you search up the question the amswer is quoted similar to how i said it😅

Yea I'm gonna look this up just cause I keep hearing it but just based on what's seen, it don't make sense and is unnecessary. Sometimes the simplest answer is the best one. Shigiraki shot out spikes, bakugo went flying, there's a hole through his chest to his heart.....shiggy killed him. Saying he killed himself just seems stupid and extra.

You guys are the first people I've seen reacting to this episode who immediately got that he blew his heart up. In the manga they had a much more in-depth explanation of what happened; he had his quirk awakening and basically the nitroglycerin was flooding his blood vessels, that last impact was too much for his heart to take. (This is not spoilers, the anime just didn't do a great job portraying what happened in that moment)
