nice work :), ive used air drying clay long before doing polymer clay and has to say that air dryin clay has been heavily over shadowed by polymer. that fine detail work isnt possible on smaller air drying clay figurines is false you just have to do a lil other approach. that approach is by doing as much form and detail as possible when wet, then you let it dry and continue by sanding it and using carving tools of metall and where it is needed to add more clay do it cause it will attach nicely on dry clay. you finish by adding sculpey claze on the surface to make the details show even better. end result is a sculpture of much sheaper material and with detail that isnt far from a polymer sculpture. felt like sharing my exp of this form of clay good day :)

What kind of air drying clay did you use? How well does it set up, does it get hard without cracking? I've been using Apoxie Sculpt. Love how it shapes beautifully but rather expensive. I would love to try sculpting with something not quite so costly. I like Polymer clay but I love large sculptures and they won't fit in oven. Thank you for your sharing your talent.

I was watching the first video you made with your new camera and you were showing your first sculpt of the lizard looking thing . My question is did you ever go to school for art or sculpting or anything because all along that was what i thought . if you didnt than everything you do is self taught witch is even more impressive .for your first piece that came out amazing . anything i attempt to sculpt looks like it was made by a first grader.

Random idea: you should make a half monkey tail behind the monkey to make it seem like he haves a tail...idk what kind of monkey your making so....

I can't wait to see how you are going to add hair/fur onto this monkey. Right now it looks like the skin (if that is the right word to use here lol) looks great even thought the wrinkles and such haven't been defined yet. I don't know if it's possible with air dry clay, but even if you tried using a material like faux fur to create the hair, I think it'd be a crazy cool effect. But. However you end up creating the final result, I'm sure it's going to look great. I can't wait to see the progression come to it's completion! :D

This clay is water-based, it has a LOT of water in it. So when the water dries out the total mass becomes much less. (this is called shrinkage) When a water-based material shrinks around something rigid it will form huge gaping cracks all over it. Removing the core before this begins allows the final drying of the clay itself to do the shrinking with very little to no adverse effects.
