Many thanks, this was exactly the information I needed. I'd been covering my clay piece with wet cloths (and a bag over the top) but with no mister, I need to get one. Cracks did appear, so more work needed. I was wondering if this would end up in a cycle of filling and shrinking but hopefully this won't be the case. I've gone down the air dry route so will be looking for the best varnish or coating to make the piece durable. I guess you've covered that so will take a look around. Thanks again, glad to find your channel!

Thank you, I am a beginner, would love to see more simple stuff to sculpt step by step. I watched one video that said to cover with a plastic bag to keep it from cracking. She said it allows the clay to dry at the same time. I have not tried it yet. Not sure if you do that or not. :) Thanks for the help!

I just saw that video too! My guy cracked his skull and I keep on wetting it and trying to fix it but the crack comes back no matter what I do, if you still do clay, do you know how to fix my problem?
@funnyfarm66234 жыл бұрын
Definitely cover it with a plastic bag. And let it dry even a week or two. You can make slip to fix the cracks. Vinegar water clay. Too much water will wet your clay and make cracks!

Thank you so much, I have been looking for this. The product you used looks easy to use and you gave the name of it. I made a complete Nativity set years ago and one of the camels is damaged. Hope this works.

Your sculptures are amazing. Are you still making tutorials? I stumbled upon your channel looking for tips. I started messing around with clay a year ago and sorta gave up due to cracking.
@LoreCraft2ndchannel4 жыл бұрын
really appreciate you saying that. I'd planned to do a paid tutorial series, as they take a lot of work to make, and I was getting like... 5$ of views from making them, which isn't tenable, even as much as I like to make them. I will still do them at some point, but the only way I've been able to fund the continued sculpting is doing the timelapses and sales on my main channel.

Thank you for this. I am working on an incense burner and using air cry clay for the first time. I also just had surgery Wednesday. I can't do too much feeling so terrible. I was afraid waiting until next weekend to work on my incense burner again would be a bad idea with the air dry clay cracking in that one area. This lets me know it is is ok to still repair the cracks in dry air dry clay.

I just started playing with the air dry clay and was wanting to know, can you waterproof the sculptures? If so ,how? Thank you! Thank you for this video!
@LoreCraft2ndchannel4 жыл бұрын
hey! Sorry for late reply. Don't check this channel as often, but I try to answer when I can. Yes you can "sort of" waterproof them. Various different ways. When it's dry it does accept acyrlic paints, sprays, etc, as well as clear coat resins. Creating a barrier with something that's not water soluable or won't wash away easily will pretty much do the trick. You still couldn't submerge them or anything but I've had several of mine outside in a covered garage with good circulation of outside air, and where I live is pretty damn, and they're all fine out there.

Do I have to wait until my clay fully drys to repair the cracks?
@LoreCraft2ndchannelАй бұрын
ah, just saw this. Well... you can progressively add it during the drying process, but the best bet is to let it crack all it's going to, then fix the cracks, because the fixed cracks will likely crack more after they dry too. You may have to repeat the process once or twice before it finally stops.

So it has to be a specific material, right? You cant just use the clay you were working on from the beginning?

I've never fired anything - that's ceramic expertise, which I don't have. I've worked with clay that can be fired, but I've never actually fired anything. I wish I could be of more help on that subject.

How long does it take to dry?
@LoreCraft2ndchannel3 жыл бұрын
it varies on thickness and if you're force drying it. If I put it out in front of my fan oven with the door open at a low heat, it could dry within a day (you need to keep turning it). Without a warm fan, could take several days.

What about if something broke right off?
@LoreCraft2ndchannel4 жыл бұрын
you can glue it! :D or you can drill a small hole in the broken piece and the base and insert a trimmed to size toothpick as an anchor and fill in the crack.

I don’t know.. those biceps tho. Where’s the workout videos?
@LoreCraft5 жыл бұрын
Before I did sculpting I was actually pretty serious about fitness and did an amateur bodybuilding contest. I seriously considered doing videos on that stuff before I ever started working the clay. Problem was I had and still do not have someone to help film that sort of content. Going into the gym with a tripod and shooting myself while I'm doing various exercises and talking to the camera seemed a bit over the top. I COULD do some training and diet vids someday, and maybe I'd put them up here, definitely not on the main channel though. This channel is for you fellas that are interested in more discussion and some fun stuff, so it could work here. Thank you for the ego boost, btw!

What timely proof that a person can spend this much time in the gym and still come out with a winning personality and sense of creative ambition. I listened to my ex talk about cutting, bulking, whey... dude wasn't the least bit curious about my sculpting. Buff as fuck but couldn't win a thumb war to save his life. He had boring weak hands. Fitness doesn't need to be an all consuming lifestyle. Self improvement must be holistic or what's the point? Strength in sculpting is a major advantage - wedging, throwing, holding heavy machinery for long periods to carve. They're like pb&j. Goodlife, get a craft corner. Bros need to get elevated. I don't know what the point of my tangent is, but if you made workout vids for sculptors, I'd be one fit disciple. 🙆♀️✌🙌
