Makita's new Quiet compressors are actually quieter than the TC-828, with the 2 gallon Makita being the same price. Enjoying shop compressors becoming a more sensible replacement since they are much more versatile. With the "tankless" I would recommend a coiled hose or a 25 foot hose to minimize pulsation from the air kicking on and off. The hose acts as the tank for these ones.

Do you set the psi on the regulator for when the brush is being used or not being used?
@TheAirbrushGarage

Do you have a recommendation for a budget friendly airbrush set up for automotive paint touch up? I never see touch up jobs that are more than 8x8” just bumper scuff marks etc. I have a 20 gallon compressor but should I just get a airbrush kit with compressor? Or hook it up to my compressor with filter etc?
@TheAirbrushGarage
@TheAirbrushGarage Жыл бұрын
Christian, your compressor is fine. Now, if you need a more portable option, then yes, a smaller compressor would be better. If touch-up is what you are looking to do, there are two ways you can go. A .5 gravity or siphon fed would both be suited for such an application. I would probably go with the gravity fed because i am assuming you would need small amounts of paint and not have the need to be switching a lot of colors in and out. I just reviewed a Gahlleri airbrush, and it comes with a .38 and a .5 and I really like it, and the price point is reasonable. Another option with the 2 needle sizes is the Paasche Tallon. I have that one too, and that is a good brush as well, and it has a fan cap, which would be great for touch-up.. and of course, i have a video on that one as well, lol. Check them out. Hope this helps.

Pardon me sir..excuse the mechanic in me..is it feasible to add a tank to the First compressor? like a middle of the road solutuion?
@TheAirbrushGarage
@TheAirbrushGarage Жыл бұрын
Rogue, the answer is yes. I have seen others do this. But, for the cost it is more cost effective to just buy one already with a tank. Since the posting of this video I have two videos on the Fortress from Harbor Freight that are very cost effective and I actually have been using the 2 gallon version for awhile now and I love it. So unless you just want to dive into a project, and I understand, I do things like that all the time. It is just easier and may even be cheaper to just buy one. If you get a chance check out the videos on the Fortress. I highly recommend them. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

I'm starting up with airbrushing. I have a similar airbrush compressor to the cheaper one you started out with. Are there ways to mitigate it getting hot? Did I use it too long in one sitting? Maybe my pressure was too high? Also this was very helpful!
@dancuccurullo8453
@dancuccurullo8453 2 жыл бұрын
Mikey, getting hot is normal for that kind of compressor that is why you definitely need a water trap on the compressor and at the brush. It will build condensation. I used to run it for a very long time as well. Definitely think about going to a compressor with a tank. Check out my Fortress Compressor review. I have one on a 1 and 2 gallon both are very good and very reasonably priced. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

Friend: you want to know why the compressor motors heat up, if it is normal or has technical causes, I find it interesting to hear about that part of the compressors, thank you very much. Greetings from Norway. Happy day.
@TheAirbrushGarage
@TheAirbrushGarage 10 ай бұрын
Bernardo, Norway! Very cool. The tankless compressor has a motor and a piston that supplies the air, and the motor runs hot, which makes it pump hot air. A compressor with a tank is always better. The motor only runs to fill the tank. Therefore, the motor does not run long enough to get hot and heat the air. I hope that helps. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching.

@@TheAirbrushGarage My compressor is very similar: the one you have in black and white has four pistons. and that one gets very hot but works normally. But I don't want to use it in case of overheating. Which I think is not normal, it could be systems or parts of the system that are not good. 0.2 0.3 0.5 Fine Detail Dual-Action Gravity Airbrush Kit 4 Piston Air Compressor. i have a harbor freight air compressor, but I cannot control the the air pressure. It goes up to 58 psi with no regulator. What can I do to it to change that? Or should I just buy a different one?
@TheAirbrushGarage
@TheAirbrushGarage Жыл бұрын
Skellexis, first, you need a regular on any compressor you run. Once you put a regulator on it, you will be fine. But because it is a tankless compressor, it will run hot, and you will get a lot of moisture, so it is important you run a moisture trap at the regular and at the brush. If it is in your budget, I would go to harbor freight and buy the 1 or 2 gallon Fortress, and they have the regulator already built in. I have the 2 gallon one. I have reviews on both. Both are equally as good. The only difference is the cycle time. Hope this helps.

You have quite a lot of good advice, but I have a question I can't find an answer to. I just got a tanked compressor but I'm wondering if it's possible to run the tank at a higher pressure - so more air in the tank between running the compressor - and putting a second regulator in line to drop the pressure down to 20 psi from the 60 or whatever. Keep in mind that I'm a complete newb so this may well be an impractical idea.
@TheAirbrushGarage
@TheAirbrushGarage Жыл бұрын
Zanshi, the tank will always be filled to its max capacity. You regulate how much air you want to go to your airbrush with your regulator. When the motor kicks on the amount of time it takes to shut off, fill the tank is called its recovery time. Hope this helps.

Hey man great Vid. quick question, does having an airtank for the compressor reduce pulsing of the airflow and spitting ? I cannot use my brush with the nozzle cap off for extra fine detailing. paint just spurts out in blots it spits sometimes with the cap on aswell although I try to thin my paints well. (using the Timbertech Airbrush Kit with Air Compressor ABPST05)
@TheAirbrushGarage
@TheAirbrushGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Musicmystro, yes a compressor with a tank stops the pulsing. A compressor without a tank creates pulsing because a piston is pulsing air directly to your hose and they also tend to run hot so hot air going through you hose creates condensation with will cause the spitting. If you are going to stay with this set up you will need a water trap at the compressor and one at the brush and check them frequently. Check out my videos on the Fortress 1 and 2 gallon compressors. Good luck and thanks for watching.

I’m glad you didn’t take offence, it wasn’t meant to be offensive 😊 Any help I can get with compressors is gratefully received. I have a fairly basic compressor for my airbrush (for modelling and guitar spraying) and I’m always struggling on what pressure to use for the task I’m carrying out and how to regulate paint flow. I was interested in what you were saying about heat because my damned compressor gets REALLY hot after a while although I do have the second trap at the end of the line. I still ended up with water coming out and smearing the paint after a lot of spraying…
