Kapitan! thank you very much for your excellent informative videos! One question please. In this particular video you had 141 as Vr and 142 as V2 speeds. After liftoff the magenta managed speed bug still sits at 142 but FD gives guidance for V2+10 speed. Am I correct? The question is: what will happen to magenta managed speed bug if you engage autopilot at 400 ft? Will it jump to 152 or stay 142 until acceleration height? Thanks!
@ApproachandDepartureVideosАй бұрын
Thanks for watching, your good feedback and the question! The magenta speed bug would not change at all if the autopilot would be engaged. Engagement of the autopilot just means that the airplane follows on its own the command bars of the flight director.

Hello captain , great video as always ! I really appreciate the time and effort taken to produce such high quality full flights videos. and if you don't mind I have a couple of question that were brought to my mind watching the video. 1-I noticed that you were flying on an odd flight level when your destination was to the west of Düsseldorf , is this normal or the rule of even and odd flight levels can change ? 2- Is there a specific rule or guideline of when to engage the autopilot after take-off ? and again thank you very much for your great work !!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot for your financial support of the channel as a member! The general rule says that flights from 0 to 179 degrees are done at an odd level and from 180 to 359 degrees on an even level. Some airways have different regulations which are published on the charts. Sometimes, we have to change the level enroute due to this regulation. The pilot flying decides when to switch on the autopilot after takeoff. Minimum engagement altitude is 100 feet on the radar altimeter and 5 seconds after takeoff. Have a nice remaining weekend!

Great video, once again. Some curiosity such as the different occasions in which vectors were given for separation with other traffic, interesting. I also liked knowing the procedures for forecasting fuel and weights for arrival, I imagine it is a common procedure but not for those of us who are not pilots. Thank you very much for teaching us more about everything we need to do, not just pilot, for a plane to go from the starting point to its final destination.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for your good and very detailed feedback! It is great to hear that you enjoyed the content of the video! Sometimes, we are flying along the full arrival and approach path. Sometimes, we get shortcuts and at other times, ATC provides vectors for separation. We continuously monitor the fuel status of the airplane and use the estimated landing weight and the weather for the landing distance and go around performance calculation. Have a nice day!

Hello Stefan! Another wonderful full flight video! If you don'tmind i have a question about colour blindness in aviation: i am mild deutan (i only notice that i am when i do ishihara tests) would i still be able to become a commercial pilot?
Thanks for watching the video and for sharing your good feedback and your very personal comment! In general, as pilots we have to be able to see the differences between colors. Especially in modern aircraft, everything is displayed in certain colors. And different color shades have different meanings. If you do not notice your color blindness, I suggest that you talk to an aviation aeromedical examiner. He or she knows the exact requirements and can help you. Some reading material form EASA, the European aviation authority, in regard to the topic is available here: www.easa.europa.eu/en/downloads/126635/en Best greetings to Brussels!

Thank your for another great video. One Question: I see you eating and drinking in cockpit. Let's say you accidentally splash the water bottle on the displays, knobs, electrics etc. . Would this cause any issues? Or is the cockpit (kind of) water proof?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, your good feedback and your question! My understanding is that the instruments are resistant to water, but not water proof. We always try to avoid spilling water or food on the instruments. For this reason, we never move open coffee jars or similar things over the area with the thrust levers, radio management panels and all other knobs.
@lucascaffese26 күн бұрын
Very good video! Altough i have a question, why the pilot flying is reading the checklists? thats not a PM task? cheers
@ApproachandDepartureVideos25 күн бұрын
Good question! The pilot flying is not reading any checklists. This is all done by the pilot monitoring. Here, on the ground, the Captain is always taxiing the airplane. So, on the ground, he or she is always considered to be the pilot flying. That means that on the ground the First Officer is always reading the checklists.
@lucascaffese25 күн бұрын
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Ohh i see! makes sense now. Airline policy? cant find this method on the FCOM
@ApproachandDepartureVideos25 күн бұрын
@@lucascaffese It is airline policy. Some airlines allow the First Officers to taxi the airplane, others not. This is always based on operational risk evaluations which are done by the airlines. You are right, the original Airbus FCOM allows the First Officers to taxi the airplane when they are pilot flying.

Such a beautiful approach! Two questions for you, firstly how do you know when the ILS is identified, i keep looking to see what changes and i cant see it? Secondly, at PMI why do they have landings with a tail wind when they could switch operations to the other runways and have a head wind? Many thanks and keep up the amazing work and safe flying
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
Thank your very much for your financial support as a member of the channel! The ILS is identified if the correct identifier is displayed above the frequency. You can see both in the left lower corner of the PFD. Here the identifier is IPAL. Alternatively, we could listen to the morse code and find out if it transmits IPAL. In Palma de Mallorca, they prefer runway 24L for landing and use it often also with a few knots of tailwind. The runways are long enough to operate with a few knots of tailwind. This is not a problem for us. Switching the runway, especially during peak hours, is not a good idea. It may provide delays and is a complicated procedure because everything changes in the opposite direction. If the tailwind is becoming more than 10 knots, they have no choice and change the runway to the other direction.

The precalculated (in our brain or/and via the flight management and guidance system) path is an (almost) idle power descent to the destination. Ideally, we want to fly with idle power until we have to add some power for a stabilized approach at about 1000 feet above the runway. When we descent too early, we have to add power sometime in between. Descending later means that we may have to use speedbrakes, fly faster or have to extend flaps or the gear earlier than usual to get rid of the additional energy. Descending too late and descending too early costs additional fuel in comparison to the ideal descent path.

at 29:49, Could you please clarify whether the right turn is executed manually by the pilot or if it is controlled by the autopilot system? If it is managed by autopilot, is the turn pre-set before reaching the designated point?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
The turn was flown by the first officer without the use of the autopilot. The departure routing was pre-set prior to the flight.

Quick question, what does the repeating "ground connected" at the beginning mean? GPU on with APU on? Or something else.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
When the pushback operator connects his bluetooth audio receiver/transmitter to our interphone system, we usually hear this message. It has nothing to do with APU or GPU.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын

Nice flight. Great to see it end-to-end. One question. I did not understand why the Captain had his hands on the flight stick when the Co-Pilot was Pilot flying.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! I had the hand near the sidestick because the push to talk button for the radio is located at the sidestick. Also, this is the most relaxed position for the arm/hand during approach. And as pilot monitoring, I have to be able to take over immediately if needed when the pilot flying is flying manually. So it is a good idea for the pilot monitoring to have the hand during the approach at or near the sidestick.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын

Loved the inclusion at the end of the ground ops walk-around, never normally see that, thank you Captain! When the FO moves the fan blades, they 'tick' - haven't heard that before, normal I presume? 🙂
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your good and helpful feedback and your personal comment! The ticking of the fan blades depend on the engine type/manufacturer. Usually, the IAE engines do not tick. The CFM engines tick. Have a nice day!
especially the CFMs (and also some others like e.g. the good old RB211 if i'm not completely wrong) are well known for this. if you look carefully at the very top part of the fan, you can see how the blades fall a bit from one side to the other, because they are not mounted completely fixed, but with a little bit of slack instead, which causes those "ticks" or "clacks". but at higher revolutions, centrifugal forces will then lock the blades into their normal position.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
@Christin55542 ай бұрын

@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын

@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын

Hi I have a question why did you guys used autopilot 2 instead of 1 for departure? I thought Autopilot 2 was used during Autoland. Also, you are great for uploading a full-length real flight I don't think people have done that before on this platform keep up the good work :)
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your question! We use autopilot 2 when the First Officer is Pilot flying and autopilot 1 when the Captain is pilot flying. This is done because autopilot 1 follows the instruments of the Captain and AP 2 the instruments of the First Officer. For autoland approaches we use both autopilots until the airplane is on the ground. Sometimes even for rollout.
