I packed an extra pair of jeans, two white t shirts, three pairs of underwear, socks, toiletries and $36. That was 1986. I figured Uncle Sugar would hook me up if I needed anything else. One joker got dropped off by his mom in a station wagon. Luggage, a fan, tennis racket, weight bench, dumbbells, barbells, basketball...just the world’s supply of crap. TI almost tripped over it. Fireworks started. I love it when dudes volunteer to be lightning rods.

Hey, OCT BMT grad here. Bring more spandex. You can never have enough and this compensates for any issues with your laundry crew being behind because eventually, they'll have to wash OCPs for all 50 of you. Shaving gel in the usual cans are fine, they aren't aerosol. I brought some like that. Bring another bag too, I suggest a rolling luggage bag, you can keep it empty if you want, it will get filled up when you leave with all the issued items. It's going to be much easier to roll everything out rather than struggling to juggle all the bags.

@@cnote91 From what I've heard if your family is close enough for example in the same city you might be able to. Different bases have different rules and regulations because of covid so I would ask once you're there. Its very unlikely you'll be able to go out of state

Here is the trick, folks: A lot of people who join the military are po'. They're too poor to afford "or," so they're just po'. The Air Force will issue you the clothes you need and then pay you a bit of early money to buy whatever toiletries in the base exchange. You do NOT want to have anything more in your locker than necessary, because all of it is subject to inspection. The more you have, the more they can gig you on. Check with your recruiter to find out how long you'll have before the day you get issued your clothes and carry nothing more than it takes to get through those first couple of days. Anything more you carry will get put into storage until after basic...you won't have access to it.

Yeah that's no problem. You actually can bring just about anything you just gotta make sure you follow your base shipping policies. A lot of people have their parents ship their consoles, computers, clothing, etc. to their tech schools after bmt

How long did it take you to get into deps from the first time you met with yo recruiter?

It took me about 4 months but honestly since covid and everything I heard I was lucky to get in that soon. My recruiter told me that in southern California and western Arizona they have 187 job openings to fill but have over 400 applicants in the area so honestly what I did was just keep consistently talking to my recruiter. You gotta show you really want it

I went and seen my recruiter on September 1st and started DEP on right before December and then I ship out January 12th. My recruiter did say i got my job and date pretty fast though

Called Recuiter first time Dec 2018. I started the process 3 June 2019. Swore into DEP 24 September 2020. Got my Ship Date 3 days ago. For 13 April 2021.

They give you a backpack when you first arrive with 3in1 shampoo. Deodorant. Toothbrush. Toothpaste. Luffa. Towels. Shower shoes. Etc. Honestly pack lightly and only bring like 2 shirts and 2 shorts/ pants. Spandex isnt required as well. Theu provide clipboards. Pens. Nail kits. Etc

For all the people that going to the BMT if you carry with you a lot of money in the BMT they going to make that you fill up a list putting in there all the dollar number and believe me it's not good writing a big list of all your dollar number😅😅😅

They take it out of your pay you’ll never see it. But it is mandatory

It's recomends feminine deodorant on the DEP app. I believe any deodorant is fine as long as it's not the spray type. You can bring axe or any others but the actual stick type
