OMG! Hail to the King. I can hardy believe all of the Live and X rumors turned out to be true. I have been using the Akai S6000 for live performance and desperately wishing for a smaller replacement "refusing to use a DAW". Thank you so much.

It looks like a nice return to form for the MPC. It's not exactly blowing everything else on the market away, but if you're already into MPCs this looks a lot better than their previous releases of recent years.

NI Maschine will now have to up their game, finally some real competitiveness so we all get better products no matter what brand we choose. A bit annoying that everything seems to be following the ableton-clip-launch thing tho.

Im talking about the recent Machine Jam and this clip launch thing in the MPC wich are obviously using the ableton style. Even tho in NI Machine itself the "scenes" are now very ableton inspired. I guess in a few years everything will be só similar it doesn't really matter what u choose to use.
@MrDebauch

that is a good point... i thought NI were supposed to be trying to promote their "stems" audio format as well..

Stems seem to have died before they even lived, it has never been really adopted by the industry and its super hard to find any releases using the format.

We'll never really know everything this can do and can't do until it hits the streets. Expectations are already being formulated. Here are two of mine: 1 - I expect it to be able to play a single sample longer than 32 seconds. 2 - I expect it to have the ability to layer per pad more than 1 sample. Oh, just one more; I expect basic midi functions to actually work correctly.
@cygnusvideo
@cygnusvideo 7 жыл бұрын
It has to have midi FX, and they have to be assignable per channel. Sequencers have been out for too long for them to keep missing these features, and it's starting to make me scratch my head. I'm talking about velocity, randomisation, transpose, arpeggiator, chord, scale, note length, and CC LFO. limited versions of these are available in older versions of the MPC via JJOS and have been available for over a decade. the PyraOS which is on Squarp's sequencer features all of these to a great extent. software platforms such as ableton have had them for over a decade. If the MPC Live/X do not feature basic midi effects functionality for sequencing internal tracks or external equipment they are alienating people like me who want to exploit the device as a sequencer. I should be able to add in whatever Midi FX I want and be able to tweak their parameters via the Q-Link knobs, and if I can't, I don't know why I'm buying the thing. Even Elektron added midi effects like randomisation to their sequencers on the Rytm and Analog4. Chance/Randomisation is a great feature, so is chord, scale, arpeggiator, note length, midi note delay and more.
@inthefade
@inthefade 7 жыл бұрын
Agreed. And MIDI effects like those are so minimal on processing power to implement, there is really no excuse. Adding an LFO to the CC parameter that controls release, for example, is such a powerful idea. There are so many options. However, though not the same as arpeggiation or MIDI delays, if it is at all like my MPC-1000 you can just program a looped MIDI CC signal into your MIDI sequence. It isn't the same as having an LFO that runs free from the sequence length, but it is pretty damn useful. I use it to change the resonance of my synth with a S&H-sounding loop while I play it live, and also to modulate the pitch slightly of my Streichfett to give it a bit of vintage "warble". Pretty useful. It MIGHT even be possible to have different sequences at different pattern lengths on the MPC Live. If so you could create your own free-running LFOs easily for any CC parameter.

I'd love to see videos of this working together in a live environment with serato DJ and having it (clips/loops/more) link with the time from serato and back too. This would make me want to buy it. Nothing out there does that yet. Even better if I could have a 40 key keyboard with it too to play sounds from the MPC.

Hmmm. The display feels a bit "laggy" minute 1:10... i hope the end product will be more responsive. I don`t know how apple did it but the touch response of an ipad and the software reactions are second to none an no i ma not an Apple junkie. Just noticed the touch response. I hope i will have the money when it comes out though. Exciting times. A full blown ruggedized portable workstation. Hmmm though i noticed that the body seems to be havin a lot of cooling slots-openings. That would mean you have to take a lot of precautions when using it in a club (drinks etc). But still a wonderful device. + rechargeable battery. Very cool

I really wonder what the difference is between the MPC Live and the Pioneer Toraiz SP-16? Both have sampling capabilities, both are standalone (no computer required) but $1200 vs $1500 is a close price range, if I could get both I would, but if you had to choose one, which one would you get and why?

@mclevit
@mclevit 7 жыл бұрын
Looks good but i can already do this with my surface pro which is already a computer with a touch monitor and i can install any DAW on it,my question is if the hardware has an inbuilt computer where i can install my favorite DAWS?,instead of this they should have created just the hardware with a mic input and a Microsoft surface dock,taking me away from the large computer monitor and giving me a small touch screen makes no sense,editing on something like this is going to be very difficult to do,the idea is great but i would prefer a dock that will allow me hookup my surface pro or any other touch tablet computer

mclevit The first MPC I got was a mpc 1000. I made a tone of beats on it even with the limited capability and indepth editing. This new MPC takes things a whole lot further than what was capable on the MPC1000. So if you look at it in that sense it will make a good piece of gear for someone. Of course it wont compare to a full studio setup at home. Thats not what this New mpc is about.

@adamcain2028
@adamcain2028 7 жыл бұрын
Why did they put the touch screen on the right side and the pads on the left?? $1200...and no VST support? I feel like this is the second time Akai has botched what could have an amazing standalone product. I feel like Maschine is more robust for about the same footprint and it's cheaper. Please, somebody offer me reasons why I'm wrong.
