Just moving those three fingers on each hand, triplets on each hand per foot, left hand on rt foot, right hand on left foot of course. i have everything to work on. when I was three I fell off the top of a slide, playing alone in my central northern Columbus backyard, broke my left arm and almost lost it, hospitalized 3 weeks, special porcedure saved my left arm and I was already rt handed. I still feel the difference in my two arms. didn't bother me in sports, like playing 3rd base, strong rt arm. but with percussion... so your suggestion is MAJOR for me. I need to get to the root of it, and I really feel the weakness in my left arm all the way up into those lesser used left 3 fingers. THANKS AGAIN!

This is why technique... knowing the mechanics of how a thing is done, is so important. I imagine how many drummers quit the practice thinking that they just didn't have the "talent" or the "magic touch" when all it was, was mechanics... being taught the proper technique. Excellent video! I just did this starting exactly 1 week ago. First few days I did for 2-3 hours each night. Just walked around the house with sticks and every possible moment kept it going. Some observations 1) This really points out how weak your weak hand is. I discovered my left hand coordination was far inferior to my right and I'm certain this has hurt my single stroke rolls over the years 2) This also points out that there is subtle movement and pressure required in the thumb and forefinger to bring the stick back. Without relying on the rebound of the drum, the stick can just stay in close to the palm of your hand instead of returning to position. This was particularly prevalent in my weak hand, where as my dominant just did this naturally 3) Returning to the practice pad and implementing it with the same technique is challenging, even if you get good at it without the practice pad. But I plan to persevere as this is obviously crucial 4) After the 1 week mark, my weak hand is light years better than when I first started So I can't do it yet, but the progress I've made in 1 week is huge and I definitely plan to continue. Keep up the excellent vids! Want more :) If you ever take requests, I would love a followup to this video that shows how to take this to the next level and apply it to fast 32 note double stroke rolls (not buzz rolls, but rather full strikes). Thanks again!

@@stephanihab my advice when you start learning drums is practice coordination and drum rudiments. When playing drum set each limb is doing something different. The hardest part is seeing how and when they line up. You build a routine by picking up your drum sticks every day. I really stress drum rudiments though. That is the foundation of a solid drummer. I hope this information helps.

Thought it was important to maintain a gap between your thumb and the side of your index finger, enough room to be able to slide a drum stick into that space, am I wrong?
