JK Rowling gave a quote on what depression really is. "Depression isn't sadness. Sadness is a good thing. Depression is feeling hollow; it's a emptiness." That's probably one of the best descriptions of depression ever. Especially for people who don't understand it.
@kejiri35934 жыл бұрын
sadness is a good thing, lol. No it isnt. Stress is good but not being sad. To complete your goals and overcome the goals usually makes you relieved of it. But stress adds cycle to your body which is healthy. Either case whatever you are into, try your best.

Jeremy, thank you for a lovely tribute and for your donation to a very worthy cause. I worked as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy and have had Clinical Depression, and also seen many Active Duty personnel fall prey to it...yet be too proud to seek help. The comments section here shows clearly how uneducated the American public are about what Clinical Depression is-- mistaking it for a passing sadness, or what one might say one felt after they lost a pet--"oh I felt very depressed about that". But Clinical depression is a deep and abiding inability to summon a will to work, you become extremely fatigued and want to sleep all day--it's less painful when you're asleep, and there are times when you feel like your guts are an empty chasm of darkness and dread. It's horrible, and wrenching and so massively painful I still don't know how I got through it. Mostly because I had young daughters--and I swore they would not lose their mother, and I would make it through the "dark night of the soul" and out the other side, somehow. That it HAD to get better some day. And it did, but VERY VERY slowly, and with treatment and medication being carefully monitored by my doctor. (I was diagnosed with persistent vegetative Depression, secondary to Grief state after the death of my baby daughter to SIDS, I think the post- partum hormones probably compounded the depression.) Clinical Depression is real, and a very high percentage of the people in America will suffer from it as some point in their lives. If they are wise, they'll seek treatment and have someone outside themselves evaluate how bad they are, and assist them in managing it--with medication or other modes of therapy. But they won't be alone, and that really helps. One of the best preventions for Suicide is having someone you promised you won't harm yourself without speaking to them first--I had to extract those promises from several junior personnel who worked from me, several times when they'd make suicidal comments. Forcing them into a bit of responsibility does help. Anyway, just wanted to lend a bit of truth to the comments I see here from people claiming that they seriously believe that this brilliant man killed himself basically on a whim--because he was sad. No, Depression is NOT sadness. It's a pit of pain and turmoil and torment... where you can't experience your own emotions properly... not a mild sadness. That's just ludicrous.

I am only 13, but in my REAL childhood, the times I fondly remember. I remember watching Aladdin with my parents when I was younger, and I loved it. It's one of my favorite animated movies and Disney movies. Definitely. I love comedy movies, and shows, and Robin Williams is in quite a few modern TV shows, movies. He was a bright and cheerful guy. This was really sudden. I still can't believe the fact that one of my favorite actors is dead. I felt exactly the same way I did when I got the news my grandpa died, a couple years ago. It was when, everything was going fine, it seemed as if nothing was gonna happen for a LONG time. Then my dad told me and my mom about how my grandpa was dead. I just couldn't accept it. My mind still thought he was alive, even though I KNEW he passed away. I couldn't accept it and when I finally did, I felt HORRIBLE. I just cried and cried after I realized what happened. I felt the exact same way when Robin Williams died. He reminded me of my grandpa as well, and now he's just... gone.

it's technically a disorder, not a disease, but i see what you're trying to say. while depression is common knowledge, the specifics of the condition are not, so a lot of people believe that depression is synonymous with being sad, when it is actually a mental disorder. my mom has it too (MDD, if i remember correctly), so i can definitely say from secondhand experience that it is not something you can get over just by thinking positive, so it's sad that so many people are misinformed about it.

Honestly this response constantly popping up is silly. There's a million reasons someone might dislike this video. Maybe they didn't like Aladdin, maybe they didn't like Robbin Williams, maybe they are having a bad day, or maybe they just did it to see how many people would make posts commenting on it. Lot of motivations in this world and hitting like or dislike is a pretty small thing to do so probably not a great deal of motivation behind it. And considering it's only a handful of people, I don't think it matters.

I know you brother, It gets better I promised, I was subject to abuse and was singled out as the weird kid in 2nd grade, I only had 1 or 2 friends and had a step father that was verbally and physically abusive. he beaten me into such an impact to where I literally didn't give a fuck about life and would spend most of my time playing video games or watching movies so I could escape my life and pretend to be someone else, it got so bad that I had literally given up on life. then I moved in with my father who lived 3 states away everything changed, I had a tad bit more friends and I actually went outside again, I conquered my depression by myself and became a tad bit more social, the dark thoughts that clouded my mind steadily went away, I'm now a freshman in high school and I'm top of my class and I can honestly say that I am way happier then I once was. just hold on, it will get better.

I know I'm just nitpicking here, but Jeremy you can't rid the world of depression. It's a human emotion, and a vital one at that. Without depression during bad times, we wouldn't know how to enjoy the joyful times.

Fuzzy Greens Yes but you're forgetting that in the middle he also said "I like to dream, dank de dank de dank dank." Which is clearly the lyrics to the song "Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf. Steppenwolf Stepping on the wolf of depression, thus ending its existence. BOOM Lawyered.

IveGotToast Objection! Can you prove stepping on a wolf would kill it? Can you prove the lyric (if it was one) was from that song? And how does it prove your statement of him ended depression? I believe you need to more evidence to support your answer.

to me Aladdin will always be my all time favorite Animated movie because of Robin Williams as the Genie R.I.P. We'd Never had a Friend like You and Jeremy Jahns is my favorite KZbin reviewer
@michaelnally28418 жыл бұрын
This is personally my favorite movie of all time for tons of reasons. It's songs are great, the characters are relatable and not perfect. While Aladdin is looking for a better life and does steal it shows he's not a dick or anything like that. Jafar I consider a great villain in his personality, his scheme, he's not afraid to get his hands dirty, and the fact that he almost won. If he hadn't listened to Aladdin he would've won. Another reason I consider this my favorite isn't just bc of Robbin Williams but his character Genie is somewhat like me, I stay supportive of my friends, I am always happy to cheer someone up and it makes me happy for it, and you'll always want a friend like him.

thank you for doing this jeremy, my older brother has been battling depression recently, i just went home from college for the first time in awhile, and i saw someone thats not my brother, he's a shell of a human being that couldn't muster up the will to even throw a football with my other brother and i. depression is a horrible thing that sucks the life out of anyone that comes in contact with it.

I was feeling depressed as i often do and if i were to really tell the painful truth, i have taught about suicide and wanting not to have existed at all. I still carry these issues but they come and go with usually something to kick start them off again like my dysfunctional family, lack of social life, but i aspire to become a writer and so i watched aladdin to inspire me but what it did was instead change my perspective and i wasn't as sad any more. I am not looking for sympathy but more of a platform in which to express myself. I only thought of this as Robbin William's had depression and i can relate. His legacy however helped me with my troubles so he will live forever in my opinion

Jeremy, I know you may never see this, but I want to let you know something. First off, I am huge fan of yours and I watch your reviews even if I have no desire to see the movies. I just find you that entertaining. In fact, I get legitimately happy when I see that you have a new review up and look forward to them. I like what you do so much my lady even says I have a man crush on you. LOL Regardless, I want you to know that not only is what you are doing here with this video absolutely awesome (and I am glad I can help) but that simply by doing what you do you bring a little bit of happiness not only to my life but several other lives as well. No matter how small it may seem, you are part of our lives and we are glad to have you, and all that you are, as part of it. Again, I know that you may never read this, but if you do let me sincerely say; thank you for all that you do. You sir, are Awesometacular.

If anyone is watching this and feels alone or crushingly desperate, know this: There has only been and will only ever be, one of you, you are infinitely precious and infinitely important, do not define your life in your failures, we have all fallen down, lift yourself and carry on, the potential for greatness, your destiny, is still before you, whether that is to become legendary or just to become all that you can be, you are important, you are needed and when you give up, when you surrender to those false thoughts, those machinations that you have fooled yourself to believe, you will never get another chance. Live your life one step at a time and keep your eyes looking forward, this world is hard, it is sometimes cruel, but it is beautiful in its cruelty, live your life in the pursuit of peace, be the champion of good will, be the person that you know you are deep in your being. If you take away nothing else, take away this: someone, somewhere, sometime will care about your absence, their lives will be changed, in those moments, they will think about every time they spoke to you, all of the cruel things they said or the nice things they neglected to say and too late they may realize just what an important part of their life is gone.

I too suffer from depression so I, on some level, know how Robin Williams felt. I was incredibely saddened when I heard that he had passed away. That's why I think it's an amazing thing that you're doing by donating 100% of the money earned from this video to the foundation for depression. Like u said, the problem is not going to solve itself overnight and the money donated from this video will not be the end all be all to the problem but it's something… and it's a lot more than the majority of the world can say they're doing to help combat this issue. So, basically what I'm trying to tell you that I think that what your doing with the proceeds from this video is extremely noble of you and I will circulate this video as much as I possible. We love you and miss you… R.I.P. Robin Williams a.k.a. "the best of the best of the best"

I don't think you can get rid of depression. It is mainly a neurological disorder. it's like curing autism, bipolar, or transsexual disorders. You can improve treatment. If you're looking to cure depression, you'd be better off funding general neurology. Either way, what you're doing is admirable.
@sleepingpetal10 жыл бұрын
I think that's what ADAA does, providing treatment for those who need it.
@lusteraliaszero10 жыл бұрын
sleepingpetal sure, but treatment is not the same as getting rid of something, as jeremy put it. ***** Then what he had was probably not very severe autism. And the cause was not a constant. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions where you can cure autism, I'm saying that it is, as a rule, entirely and deeply neurological, and as good as impossible to entirely remove with our current knowledge or even concentrated research.
@wrafflelol61010 жыл бұрын
i think that is the point though, to find better methods and treatments to help people with these problems
@lusteraliaszero10 жыл бұрын
