I never understood why it got such bad ratings. Sometimes it’s just a timing thing, sometimes it’s just about what kind of people actually go on to rate things. Almost every person I’ve ever seen react to it and every person I know who’s watched it had a great time. It’s just a really fun and entertaining movie. I’ve watched it a couple times, it’s fun even knowing the twists just because the pacing and effects are fun to watch

@@kauinoa2004 Most negative feedback are about how it was unrealistic but like bro let the movie breathe this is a movie about MAGIC for crying out loud, and who cares if they didn't write the trick down to the minute details, the tricks would be very detailed if they were possible but glad the movie left most explanations out because it would be hard to argue for logic of something near impossible to do.

3:02 Eisenberg’s card trick in the opening scene is interesting because if you slow it down to 0.25x speed, the 7 of Diamonds can be seen for a few more frames than the other cards. It’s subconsciously implanting the same card in the audience’s head so odds are he’ll perform the same card trick on us too. I also picked the 7 of Diamonds so it blew my mind the first time watching.
@granddaddypurp909
@granddaddypurp909 Ай бұрын
Yeah, I've actually done that trick so many times before, not to the point of putting the card on the side of the building, but yeah. You basically cut off the top part of the card in front of the 7 of diamonds that way you see the 7 for more time than the other cards, it's a way to force a card on someone without them knowing. Pretty diverse trick because you can do the reveal in so many different ways, since I already knew the card I'd force on people I'd simply write a prediction beforehand and have them hide it somewhere, and then let them open it up and reveal it to everyone else, it has a big impact on the audience.

Fun fact: if it hasn't already been brought up. In some of the shots of the scene where Isla Fisher is in the water tank during her introduction, there was a technical error where she was stuck in the tank briefly, and nearly drowned. Some of the reactions on the film are genuine reactions to her panic.

a rule i live by: rotten tomato critic ratings mean absolutely NOTHING. cinematography is extremely subjective. some critics praise nolan or fincher for being geniuses, others believe their works are too intense and dark (when it comes to visuals) and prefer wes anderson or gretta gerwig instead. it’s best not to refer to other opinions at all and just make your own judgement of a film, but if you really must, you can usually rely on the audience because they can have fun, unlike critics :) this is a rule that applies to some of my all-time favourite films, critics rate them 30-50%, but audience ratings are 70-80% lol

The performances were outstanding, especially by the ensemble cast. I loved how the film blended illusion and magic with an intricate heist story. The twists and turns had me guessing until the very end, and the resolution was satisfying. The visual effects were also top-notch and really added to the overall experience. I LOVE that you predicted the twist, then were still shocked when the twist happened. I'm a big fan of this movie. It definitely isn't the best told story ever, but it's insanely entertaining and isn't that the point? Also, if you really are interested in digging into magic, there are a couple of phenomenal magicians on KZbin that talk about magic and even reacted to this movie. Their channels are Chris Ramsay and WES Barker. A word of warning though- magic is all about what you don't understand. The more you learn the more you see technique instead of magic, which is still interesting but not the same.

As a magician, I can personally atest that this movie is 100% accurate. Every time I do a card trick, I've got at least three women trying to take me home. It gets so tiring because I'm just a nerd who does card tricks, why can't they control themselves? Sheesh! And don't even get me started about how easy it is to make things appear out of thin air and how I'm definitely always the smartest guy in the room. It gets pretty boring being one of the biggest geniuses ever, we magicians have a really rough life. And if you believed any of that then I've got some swamp land you may be interested in. This movie was entertaining but it did a very poor job of portraying magic in a realistic manner and my biggest problem with it was how they made all the magicians such egotistical jerks and know-it-alls. That is a perception we real magicians fight against every time we perform. You treat your audience well, you don't belittle them and act all smug and crap. Anyway, loved the ending to this one but I certainly wouldn't look at it as any kind of magician documentary. We're not that cool.

This movie wasn't about every day respectable normal magicians. It was about exceptionaly talented individuals (prodigies within that line of work you could say) with flawed personalities because very often highly talented people are also isolated people and feeling isolated from people doesnt usualy bring out the best in you. Also in the end they where not that egotistical considering they pulled a few robin hood actions and helped some people. Also if your a hot looking guy who appears charming and smart, you can probably score some girls to come to a hotel or room with you. I doubt the fact he was a magician was the reason. It was that he was young, good looking and appeared smart because of his tricks, but he could achieved the same thing reading poetry or acting a mysterious flirt. It is totaly believable a girl went with him to his hotel room after the trick. Also most magicians dont include flats or buildings for their card tricks. This shows the dude either has money, or influence. Both of which can also be atractive to women. I get your frustrations, but your not looking at the actual context of the situation. The girl going with the guy wasn't about the magic tricks alone. And the movie isn't about magicians doing every day magician things. It's a heist/revange story with thieves and con artists who also happen to magicians/illusionists. And very talented ones at that. Your critism is like watching a movie about a prodigy anyone (in music, in art, in sports) who doesnt have the most sparkling personality and be like ''normal people who do these things for a living dont act like this''. Yeah but thats the thing isn't it? ''Normal'' people. Movies, shows, stories, are rarely about ''normal'' people. It's usualy about the especialy talented/unusual types. The ones that have more room for character growth. Flawed personalities.

This is yet another example of why I NEVER trust Rotten Tomatoes and other critics. Now You See Me is a GREAT film. Great characters, great plot, great twists, great cast ... a great original movie. The sequel is just as good.

One of my favorite movies ever, Alex! My dad was an amateur magician; he'd have LOVED this. I always think of him when I watch it. LOVE your reaction! And btw, DID YOU KNOW THERE'S A SEQUEL? NOW YOU SEE ME 2--AND IT'S REALLY FUN... hope you'll react to that one as well!

Isla Fisher almost died IRL in the water tank scene. She didn't come back for the sequel. But Alex is the only person I've ever known to guess the twist. Good lord, he's going to be insufferable now..😂 Also one of the writers, Ed Solomon, wrote Men in Black and Bill and Ted.
