I had around 8 subscribers at the time of this video, and if I'd known it would one day get a million views I never would have made this. Therefore, my arguments aren't the most thought out and the audio sounds like it was recorded in a bin. Keep that in mind while you watch it! Also since making this, I've come to appreciate the original comics way more, so it's completely unfair to say its characters are one-dimensional. I think I was referring to Stan's style of dialogue, but just because it's dated doesn't mean it's bad. Stan's original run remains one of the best in comic history, and his characters were very complex. I still agree with most of what I said in this video but I wouldn't do it at the expense of the old comics.

11:54 one of the best characterizations of Jameson was in the first Spider-Man movie where the Green Goblin wanted him to give up Peter (the guy who sends the Spider-Man photos) and he denied knowing him, saying “he just sends it in by mail” Staring down a super-soldier that could rip him to pieces and he didn’t back down.

It kinda irritates me when people just Portay J Jonah Jameson as "Literally Alex Jones" rather than acknowledging his nuances as a character and that he can be a pretty good journalist in matters that DONT involve Spider-Man I mean If you want a soulless hack fraud who rags on superheroes solely to further their own career, Sally Floyd is right there.

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone who recommends this run as an introduction into the Spider-Man comics. Sure, you get some weird details that are exclusive quirks of the ultimate universe, but it all works to create a cohesive narrative that works from start to (almost) finish. I read it years ago and it didn’t really do it for me at first, but after stumbling upon Prodigy’s motion comic series of it and getting to experience it at a better pace, I’ve gained a new appreciation for it.

I feel out of the live action Spider-Man actors, the closest to this version of the character is Andrew Garfield. People want to think Peter Parker is upbeat and positive 90% of the time, but he's got a lot on his plate and always had a bit of angst in his character. Ultimate Spider-Man, to me, emphasis this to show how difficult being a teenage superhero really would be and I love that. Yeah, he's hit heated at times, but wouldn't you be at that age and had to deal with everything he does? Andrew Garfield, to me, feels like he took a lot of inspiration from this run to try be relatable to every kid and teen who's ever felt overwhelmed and like they can't handle it anymore. Despite feeling that way too, he always gets back and and continue on because it's his responsibility

@@The_Blue_Otaku I feel like it's a perfect blend of both with a little Raimi sprinkled in. Spectacular Eddie Brock was the closest we've ever gotten to Ultimate Eddie Brock on screen. Peter's childhood friend, both of their parents died in same plane crash, and his anger toward Peter stems from Peter trying to destroy the Symbiote. He also has a thing for Gwen in both versions Spectacular Gwen's role in the story is very similar to Ultimate MJ's. (Peter's best friend in high school, with him when he gets bitten by spider, eventual love interest, love triangle with Harry) It includes Kenny "Kong" McFarlane, a character created specifically for Ultimate Spider-Man Spectacular Peter goes to high school with MJ, Harry, and Gwen like in the Ultimate Universe. In the Marvel Universe, he never ment any of them until college. Hulk being an insane r*pist, Xavier falling in love with a sixteen year old, the Blob being a cannibal, it's all edgelord trash. @@rgmfg Bendis retconned that Peter had been alive this whole time. Or rather, he was resurrected not long after his funeral in some abandoned laboratory in Los Angeles, hitchhiking across the country to make it back home. Oh and Green Goblin was also alive this whole time as well, revealing that the OZ formula is some kind of immortality formula that will keep bringing them back to life no matter how many times they are killed. Which also should mean Harry Osborne, Mary Jane, and Gwen Stacy should also be immortal as they too were exposed to OZ, but that never comes up. I think Bendis was gearing up for some kind of storyline involving Peter and his resurrection, that maybe it wasn't the OZ formula that brought him back. But Secret Wars happened, anything with the name Ulimate was cancelled, and Miles was brought over to the Mainstream Marvel universe, while the company refuses to bring back the Ultimate Universe.

Jack Kirby's The Eternals. 2013' Avengers/New Avengers, Fantastic Four, both by Jonathan Hickman Daredevil by Ann Nocenti Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing Captain America and Gotham DPGC, both by Ed Brubaker (with the last one being by Brubaker + Rucka) Green Lantern by Geoff Johns, etc There are lots of runs, it's just a matter of finding a good one. Had lots of love-hate relationship with the Ultimate universe, but the only exception was the Ultimate Spider-Man run. Got a more believable Peter as a kid, love Mary Jane and Gwen’s style to being my headcanon clothing for them, Peter and Kitty’s relationship was actually so adorable, it always stand out for me, Jessica Drew being a clone of Spider-Man, Debatably my favorite Aunt May (going back and forth with the PS Aunt May), Spider-Man literally taking a bullet for Captain America, Jameson witnessing and admitting Spider-Man is a hero, and the aftermath of Peter’s death. And then when I thought It was good enough for me to put down the Ultimate Spider-Man run, I read Miles Morales’ run as the next Spider-Man at a Barnes and Nobles and I immediately love his character, his lore, that crossover when he met 616 Spider-Man for the first time and ended up my definitive favorite Ultimate character. I still regret it took years for me to know the character rather than hearing controversy. Head scratching Ultimate Peter came back, but with Miles going to the main marvel universe and main marvel universe Miles went to the Ultimate universe, I think it balanced it out.

After watching this video sometime last year, I decided to give the comics a chance. Oh boy I’m glad I did. Ultimate Spider-Man is one of the best comics I’ve ever read (for the most part) and I’m just now on the 2009-2012 run, and i would like to take the time to look back here to just say thanks for recommending such a great comic. Ultimate Spider-Man were some of the first Marvel comics I ever read after watching the first Raimi movie back in the stone age. They (alongside the the original Lee/Ditko and JMS runs) are what define Spider-man to me. Thank you so much for shining a light on these stories. At times, it feels like contemporary nerd/pop culture has forgotten comics in favor of the MCU, but the kind of intimate, slow-burn, emotional storytelling you’re talking about here is mostly missing from the movie format, so I hope your videos can get more people to dive back into the comics.

Ultimate Spider-Man was the most I've ever bonded with Peter and the rest of the Spidey cast. Early parts of the series are so dated in the late 90s/early 00s but it still manages to be so charming. I fell so in love with his series that I just couldn't bring myself to read Miles' adventures because this interpretation of Peter was so good. Also say what you will about Bendis but he made a legitimately good Spider-man clone saga, that's a feat worth praise.

The "clone saga" for ultimate spiderman was actually interesting, it shows the repercussions of what people can create with his blood, plus, its better then 1993s clone saga, boy that was a mess. Also, this universes carnage was way more menacing, when it literally picked up gwen and morphed its face into peters, it was horrifying to look at.

I seriously started reading this comic bc the title sounded cool. I read the first 40 issues in a day and I was hooked. And i just kept going and going and eventually I read ultimatum, and I just fell in love with not only spiderman but the entire universe that he’s in, I love jonny storm’s character, I loved bobby’s character. After the death of spiderman, I instantly went on to fallout and then miles’ story. And then i fell in love with miles even more than i did before. I read everything to secret wars (which btw i don’t recommend reading secret wars it’s VERY confusing) basically what i’m trying to say. I LOVE this series. Everything about it is great and i truly wish it just kept going. Currently i’m reading the Ultimate X-men because that’s how much i fell in love with the universe. As much as I like how they treated Peter's death and how it impacted the rest of his world, I don't think Peter being dead is a satisfying ending to the series. I feel like it damages the message of responsibility and makes his entire journey feel somewhat bleak and pointless.

Well he actually returned and has somewhat closure leaving the mantle to Miles (as it is quite fitting, because at least in this universe he didn't like being spidey so much). Although to this day his story and the rest of the ultimate universe remain in limbo.

@OLX kidstaff You know the irony of the death of Spiderman is that he really didn't need to "save" Cap. Punisher was aiming at Caps "kneecaps" (and considering cap has a healing factor in the ultimate universe this wasn't a problem). All punisher wanted was to stop Cap. And that's the irony of the Death of Spiderman, Cap told him early that day that he needed to stay out ot the way. Had he listened, Cap would've survived the shot anyway and Spidey wouldn't have died.

Bendis did great on his writing...and having my fave post Todd/Erik artist drawing it (Bagley) was a no brainer. Even their take on the clone saga was better. I honestly was pissed when USM died.....he has barely scratch the surface and felt MM was just a big token...I'm a fan of ORIGINAL characters, not all heroes should be a legacy character, unless it works for their story (Phantom, Black Panther) MM did grow on me....and I enjoyed his Ultimate era better. The movie ITSV was phenomenal. Shoutouts to Donald Glover.

You know, it actually makes a lot of sense that Peter came back. Norman had already been established to come back again and again after he should be extremely dead ( he came back from a headshot after all). As a plot twist, the revival works, the Goblin's repeated revival makes a lot more sense when it's explained that Oz formula gives semi-immortality (apparently it is exhaustible, as norman was implied to be perma-dead after his fight with the spiders)

This is the video I watched when I was recently wondering "Where should I start reading Spider-Man? Is it worth it?" and I've gotta say, even with this video spoiling a lot (not nearly all) of the major events it's still a great read. I only read up through 160 for now, and likely will read through to issue 200, but I'm honestly not too sure after that very last panel you showed. I don't even remember that from my first view of this video, but with the gripes I have with 160s ending already, I think seeing that sort of rubs salt in the wound. Overall I really like the 160 issues I read though, it was more than worth the time, and while I wish some things were tighter in the final few years or that Peter's demise made a little more sense I kind of accept it because by the time you get there you realize that that's just how Bendis writes. Love it or hate it, he's willing to turn his story completely on its head and take a major risk even with main characters that have a lot of development behind them. Sometimes I think it gets a little too crazy, or too shocking, for its own good but overall I'd say the risks make reading more exciting even after watching something like this that laid a lot of it out before I'd even touched the series.

Personally I like spiderman when he's not attached to anything bigger than "your friendly neighborhood spiderman" My favorite series of spiderman was the spectacular spiderman animated series. There was no other heros, no shield agency, no human extinction level threat. It was a simple story of a high school kid with super powers. Fighting crime at night and dealing with teen drama during the day. I never enjoyed when the comics or other TV series kept making his secret identity revealed to his friends or family or even the world. There's just something about his ability to keep his secret identity a secret that gives the story a lot more spice and thrill. Don't get me wrong. I love ultimate spiderman and the huge battles he faces with the other marvel heros. But I always felt like the spectacular spiderman was more relatable in the sense he seemed so much like a normal kid which in turn made the show better since he also had to carry the responsibility of being a hero.

It is written and the art culminate into what is a basically a movie in comic book form. I love it. Theory Time - I had a theory that Ultimate Spider-Man was way stronger than he should be, meaning that when he gets his arse kicked he heals faster than he should. And that was some what confirmed for me when Norman got shot in the head and then waking up in the Triskelion and Danvers is actually confused to why he didn't die. This kinda gave the confirmation.

You'll love Spectacular Spiderman In the show, Jameson starts off just printing whatever spiderman pictures Peter gives him, but after his son's dangerous life threatening space landing back home, he notices nobody cared about it, he saw his son an astronaut as a real hero but the media nowadays only painted spiderman as a hero, so Jameson made it his mission to taint the spidey's reputation by making fake and misleading stories painting Spidey as a menace Flash also gets a character arc that turns him good and during the symbiote arc, Flash is the only one Peter listens to, because he's Flash, the last guy you'd expect to get help from The cartoon had a knack of including villains way before they became villains and it's a shame it got canceled, the show had planned for 5 seasons with multiple mini movies, but only ended up getting 2 seasons with the third being hinted to include scorbion, Carnage, and probably Gwens death

You the loss of Ultimate Spider-Man really did hurt me when I read it. I’ve never been as attached to a version of Spider-Mans surrounding world as much as I was in this story. It’s probably easily my favorite Spider-Man world just because it feels the most real to me. So many good characters. So much was lost though with the death of Peter… We no longer had a constant window into that world. It was replaced by Miles… I think that’s why I’ve always had a kinda dislike for miles morales. He meant the end to one of my favorite incarnations of the character. That’s why honestly after Peters death I couldn’t put myself through Miles books.. I just couldn’t. It hurt.. so instead I went through them to try to see if Peter ever came back but even when he did nothing much came from it. Sure the reason he’s alive is stupid but I didn’t care much I just wanted that world back. It honestly saddens me that I will never get it back. Miles Morales has become a great character but I hate the original version because he meant the loss of one of my favorite versions of Spider-Man.

I also generally feel like the original version of Miles Morales kind of has a few issues, mostly that there isn't enough to seperate him from Peter Parker and that he seems to be kinda...to mild. Into the Spiderverse made some genius changes to Miles Morales which I hope will slowly creep into comics, which made him much more of a person of his own. Like, him being really into arts, which differenciates him greatly as a person from Peter. The Uncle Aaron changes are just objectively better. Like, in the original comic, Aaron was just such a mean psychopath and there wasn't really anything for Miles character to gain, outside of being abused and traumatized. Aaron deeply caring about Miles and being killed because of it on the other hand offers a great uncle Ben-esque moment, while the context is really different. Though I think the best change made to Miles is, to give him a whole different origin theme, instead of learning that with great power comes great responsibility, which Miles just doesn't needs to learn because he is already a kid living in a world where Spider-Man is a role model that inspires, its him learning to do that leap of faith. The leap of faith was fully unique to Miles and a great arc to jumpstart him into being his own Spiderman. I think one big problem Bendis has with specifically writing super heroes is really him holding back and being too focussed to make the character a role model and inspirational, which contradicts with his core strength of writing messy and realistic characters. I believe he wants to sincerely wants to write characters like Miles and Riri and creat more black legacy character, him having a black daughter, and that he has the best intentions, I just feel like he falls into the trap of being too sensitive about his black leads.
