Alice Cooper was produced by Frank Zappa. The reason was, according to Zappa, that Alice Cooper succeeded in make all audience leave a concert in just a few minutes! I think his makeup was inspired by Arthur Brown. His "Fire" (you should check the video!) was released about when the Alice Cooper group was formed.

Banger! The angst in Cooper's voice in the last line of this song went unsurpassed until Nirvana dropped "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in 1991, imo. I'm guessing I was thirteen or so the first time I heard this song. But that was nearly a decade after it's release. Alice Cooper released a Greatest Hits compilation in 1974 that I bought in 1980 or thereabouts. "I'm Eighteen" was the first track on side one. "School's Out" was his signature tune back when, at least it seemed that way to me the first time I heard that song when I was ten or so. Perfect song for the last day of school! Back in the nineties the bar bands I played in would sometimes cover "I'm Eighteen" because it was a sure crowd pleaser. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Billion Dollar Babies" are two other Alice Cooper tunes that still hold up well, imo.

@@EmpressReacts All I remember is a manager said he could not sell a band named Alice Copper so the singer, Vincent Furnier, took the name. A side note, one of the band had been tripping on LSD. He had a vison that in a previous life he was killed, as a witch, named Alice Cooper. That`s how the band got its name.

If your interested, Alice Cooper's original name Vincent Damon Furnier, (born February 4, 1948, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.), American rock musician who pioneered a theatrical form of heavy metal music performance that fused onstage horror dramatics with a raw dynamic sound and that eventually earned him the sobriquet *“the godfather of shock* And Shock rock is the *combination of rock music or heavy metal music with highly theatrical live performances emphasizing shock value.*

"Never heard of her" that's so cute. Well in 1971 most people hadn't heard of her either. What they didn't know was this band featuring a man named Alice was just about to take over the world. The video I've attached was from early 1972. The band had already scored a couple of gold albums with "Love it to Death" and "Killer". That summer they released "Schools Out" with the anthemic title song and the album soared to #2 on the BIllboard charts. ABC had just launched this new late night music show called "In Concert" and I dont think the programmers at ABC knew exactly what they were getting with Alice Cooper. Some affiliates around the country pulled the plug on the broadcast and those that hung with it had their phone systems light up like a Christmas tree. The next morning the whole country said "WHAT THE FUCK" and Alice Cooper and his band took over the world. Here ya go, Alice Cooper "I'm Eighteen" live on ABC television in 1972. kzbin.info/www/bejne/maGXq2eZqsaVe9E
